  1. The itch means that they are healing. I scratched around my insicions, looking closely not to harm them. It seemed to help. Nilla
  2. You are having the week 3 stall on schedule! Not to worry, everyone gets it. I got mine early at 9 days out. Your body is adjusting to the new calorie amount and needs a little time to reset. Search "embrace the stall", it explains it in more detail. Nilla
  3. I have had a few surgeries in my life. I never fear the anesthesia. My only problem is that my veins dry out quickly if I can't drink,so putting in an iv might be tricky. You can get some meds for anxiety if you feel you need it. But it's just a waiting game. Once in the operating room they attach all kind of monitoring devices to you, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen etc. None of them hurt. After the iv is inserted, all the meds are going in thru that. One of them stung, but not too bad. Then they have you breathing from the mask before you get the actual knock out drug, so you have oxygen in your blood when they are intubating you. I can taste the knock out drug in my mouth and then I'm off to sleep. Next thing I know is waking up in the recovery room. My worst part was the gas pain, but it got better the instant I was able to get up in a sitting position. I had rny, but everyone gets gas in their abdomen. Good luck with your desicion! Nilla
  4. I take this chewable B12 and it tastes great. It's also very small, just in case you don't care for the flavour. Nilla
  5. I know there are some gas reducing anti-acids, might that work? Nilla

  7. Good Monday morning to you all! 220.0 today, 3 weeks after surgery. I have to say I'm not impressed. Everyone are getting such great numbers and I'm a snail... I know I shouldn't compare, but I can't help it. Nilla
  8. I make my hubby his favorite meals and I eat what I can from them. Since I have no hunger, it's not a problem for me. I have my own Protein rich food in the fridge if I can't eat any of he is having. I bought him candy for Halloween on my pre-op diet and had no problems when he was eating them next to me. I have made a desicion to do this and I'm serious about it. I love baking so everyone in my circle are getting pies, cakes and ginger bread Cookies. I'm so happy xmas is coming so I have a good excuse to feed people :-D Nilla
  9. I have more problems with my pouch in the morning. It's like a raisin before I get it going again. Even Water hurts. I made my first scrambled egg this morning. The first tiny bits went down like a rock and the unpleasant feeling started... 15 min later I'm eating my cold scramble without any problems! Try and try again! Nilla
  10. I was wearing my underwires right from the start with no problems what so ever. Nilla
  11. Men are simple creatures. And I mean it in the best way. When fishing for a compliment, and you have an idea of what you want, he has no clue!! So when he says your boobs are getting smaller, he is complimenting you. He has no clue about your thigh or waist measurements. He likes your boobs, looks at them often and noticed them changing. He also knows how hard you have been working towards your goal and wants to let you know that he did notice. Don't blame him for that. He has no clue about apps, charts, goals, measurements calories, lbs and oz. Unless he also had wls. So give your spouses a break and say thank you! Have plastics if you want to afterwards, but most guys don't care that much as long as they still have your full attention and get fed once in a while. That's why I loved working in an industry with mostly men. No bullshit, just keeping it real. Nilla
  12. Send a request to RNY November 2016 and I will add you! Nilla
  13. I take both T3 and T4 for my hypo and after the rny I have been waking up all the time during the night. I'm still cold and I haven't lost much weight either. Nilla
  14. I haven't had that?!? Nilla

So sorry that you and your family has to go thru this! As a sufferer of chronic pain I can relate. A big problem is that drs are very cautious of prescribing strong enough meds so that people can be able to function with their pain. I will never be pain free and I no longer have false expectations of achieving that. That said, my meds make me function and don't blur my mind in the process. I also have non-med procedures to help along with the meds. The flip side is recognizing the possible abusers. They are very good at selling their stories to get their fix. Some real patients pay a price for that. I apologize for hijacking your thread, but this topic is something I feel very strongly about. Thank you for raising awareness. All the best to you and your family! Nilla
  17. In a stall... 222 lbs today Nilla
  18. Plan ahead. Keep allowed choices in the fridge at all times. It's easier to slip if you run out of diet friendly food. Keep some food/drink with you where ever you go. Make sure you eat at regular interwalls to prevent hunger. Drink a lot of Water. Step on the scale, it will show the diet is working. Keep your eye on the prize! Nilla
  19. My stall started at day 9 post-op, after losing 6 lbs. I have had patience, but it's running out soon. Today is day 5 of my stall. I took my measurements today and they haven't changed. Something has to happen soon or I will lose my positivity instead of lbs.. Nilla
  20. Thanks Sue! Frankenfood is shakes, Protein bars etc. Anything that didn't come from nature ???? Nilla
  21. As a kid, teenager and young adult I was very active. I did a lot of sports, track and field, figure skating, ballet and basketball. I even trained juniors in basketball. I had a lot of injuries, that finally led to the sad conclusion that I had to stop training so hard. I started gaining weight, not too much in the beginning, but it added up. My Mom shows her love with food and sweets. I don't blame her, her Mom was the same way. My Mom still has no idea I had wls, because she hates any kind of surgery and I only told a few people. My hubby and Dad are supportive, so that's all I need. I will tell my Dads wife on Thursday, since we will be spending xmas with them. I met my hubby when I was 21, so he has seen all my ups and downs, I'm a textbook example of a yo-yo dieter. I know what to do to lose weight, I just never mastered the maintenance phase. I worked hard in my dream profession, I was an aviation specialist and very good at my job. It all came to a bitter end when I was 34. My arm stopped working in the middle of a phone call with an air traffic controller in Russia. I'm now on early retirement at 42. I had 2 surgeries on both shoulders, because they were too loose. I regained mobility, but never really got my full strength back. 2 years later I was diagnosed with a rare syndrome, EDS, and found myself to be a part time wheelchair user. Try keeping your weight at a healthy level when your mobility is minimal? So I had a 9 month private pity party. Smart, right? I was mourning the loss of my former life and had to find my new path. Today I counsel other patients, lecture about my syndrome and related issues and have an active role in my patient organization. I live my life happy. Still travel, go to concerts, do most things I want. My manual wheelchair is pink and my electric wheelchair is decorated for xmas, lights and all! A year ago a went to see a nutritionist. I lost some weight again on a very strict diet on mostly frankenfoods. Yay! But when I started going back on real foods, my weight turned back up. This summer my nut asked if I have considered wls, that I would be a good candidate. Nope, never thought about it other than watching some shows on tv. I wanted some time to do research and told her that I would give her an answer the next time I saw her. So sep 14th I said yes please and she said she would send my papers forward. That day I put myself on a 1300 cal low carb, high Protein diet. When I got my surgery date of nov 21st, I lowered my calories to 1200 cal. I also did a 4 week pre-op diet that was very similar, but more frankenfood and an 800 cal limit. I had rny on nov 21st, as scheduled. I was wheeled to recovery to wait for my turn, second wls that day. I started having second thoughts... Do I really want to put my body thru this? Am i really sure i can't do it on my own? I didn't get very far with my thinking before they took me in. I remember that my last thought on the table was that I can still change my mind. When I woke up in recovery I had the worst gas pain I ever experienced. Horrible! The meds didn't work for it at all! I regretted my desicion instantly. But when they asked if I wanted to go to the bathroom I was so happy to realize that all the stories of moving around to get rid of gas were true. I had to stay 3 nights in the hospital due to drinking issues. I never had any other pain than gas pain, but boy was it painful before I was able to move around. In total I had pain and took meds for about a week. Now, 13 days post-op, only a tiny bit of discomfort when laying down. And today I'm happy to report that my drinking issues seem to have gone away slightly! My surgery weight was 228.8 lbs and today I'm 222.0 lbs (hw his summer was around 255 lbs, that I recall). I have been in a stall for 4 days now and I hope that the increase in liquids will help a lot with moving forward. The only real post-op complication I had was that the heparin shots were too much for me. I was supposed to do them for 10 days at home, but had to stop half way thru. I started bleeding from my nose and other parts... I called the hospital and they agreed, no more heparin for me. The bleeding stopped the very next day. My post-op diet allows food quite fast, I'm on soft foods right now. But the only solids, other than dairy products and puddings, have been cottage cheese and meatballs. I have tolerated everything I have tried, with the exeption of mashed potatoes. I got a 15 min dumping episode... But I have not thrown up even once and the regret went out the window the second I was able to stand up in recovery. I average 400 cal per day for now. I will be posting more on this thread as time goes by, as a small journal to myself. I hope everyone has as an easy journey as I have had with my wls, I think it's totally worth it. Just waiting for my stall to break... Happy holidays to you all! Nilla
  22. All good advice! I hope the pain is a bit better today. Move around, it really makes a huge difference. It makes the gas leave your body faster. If you feel weak when you are going to the airport, just request mobility service. Just don't mention surgery or they might start asking for fit to fly papers. Say you took a bad fall and need help getting to the gate and also help at your destination. That way you don't need to lift your suitcase and don't have to use up all your energy at the airport. Walk if you can, but this is a good service if you need it. It's free, but a small tip will be appreciated. You can also call and book the service in advance to make sure you get it. Nilla
  23. I had a week of pain at home, but it mostly due to the gas. I had a heat pad that helped with the pain and discomfort, so you might want to try that? The best remedy by far was the walking. I can't tell you how sceptical I was of it, but to my suprise it really helped a lot. Just go slow in the beginning, but do it often. Moving around will also help against extra scar tissue on the insides, as well as prevent blood clots. Good luck, you will see improvement every day! Nilla
  24. I agree, 9 lbs is great! I'm 11 days out and have lost 6 lbs, so you are doing better than me. Don't stress about it or it will slow down. Weigh ins only once per week if you have a hard time mentally. And the 3 week stall is yet to come... Take your measurements if you haven't already, it will usually show a loss even when your scale doesn't. Nilla
