I highly recommend Wellbutrin. It worked wonders and I did not gain an oz. I'm now a month and a half smoke free!!! It helped with a lot more than smoking- I really enjoyed the energy it have and how it helped with anxiety. However you get it done, I would definitely do it before surgery! If you're constipated, take something to help. You can also get cleanses at GNC (aka, s**t your brains out form day or two.) those always make me drop a few pounds. Keep hydrated!!!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

As much as I love vaping, and how much better I feel since the switch years ago... If one can just quit cold turkey and never go back, that is just awesome. The money spent is real too. Lol coffee, a caramel green apple vape and knitting gives me the "Je ne sais quoi" daily pleasure. Thank goodness I never cared for alcohol, it makes me nauseous. For that I'm thankful. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App Thank you for not being offended. Honestly, we have to do what works for each of us individually, I just wouldn't want anyone to go back to anything when the nicotine withdrawal is already passed. Mental craving is a whole other story... Sort of like head hunger! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

You have come so far- I would not even start vaping. If you have made it this long, you can do it!! Just think of the cost savings (regular or vaporizers.) and I definitely would not do any nicotine. Please don't take offense- I'm a former smoker and I would want someone to say this to me. Every time I've quit and then tried to introduce anything back in like an e-cig I would just fall completely off the wagon. I wish you the best in whatever you choose. NEED HELP! Smoking.... possible Chantix?
sammy246 replied to Heatgirl03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually gave myself mild whiplash and couldn't swallow after launching myself off my bed. I woke up with the lights on (they were off when I fell asleep) frantically digging through my bedcovers for "poisonous spiders." Thank goodness that only happened once! NEED HELP! Smoking.... possible Chantix?
sammy246 replied to Heatgirl03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My PCP refuses to prescribe chantix- she says that the percentage of people with significant negative psychological outcomes (aggression, psychosis, mood swings, etc.) they were now finding, is as high as 10%. That was too high for her comfort zone of prescribing. Not everyone will have this happen of course, but this is why I opted for the Wellbutrin (same as zyban or buproprien.) I personally was not comfortable taking Chantix, but your dr should be able to go over the pros and cons of both with you. I should add that Both can cause vivid dreams and other things too. I only had them within the first week or so. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
NEED HELP! Smoking.... possible Chantix?
sammy246 replied to Heatgirl03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I totally get it. I work a very high stress job with a lot of other smokers. It almost feels like giving up part of your identity at first, but I've come to realize that it's the addict in me that whispers the negativity. I love being a non-smoker. Just remember that it does get better- there will come a time where you hardly think about them at all for days, weeks, months, etc. BTW- I was on 150mg twice a day (morning and afternoon.) NEED HELP! Smoking.... possible Chantix?
sammy246 replied to Heatgirl03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I recommend Wellbutrin over chantix. It's a mild anti depressant that also helps with overeating and cravings. None of these medications contain nicotine, but Wellbutrin honestly worked wonders for me. I gave myself two weeks, and after the two I had to TRY and quit. I ended up quitting within one week of starting. You still get cravings but they are nothing like without medication. It also makes smoking far less pleasurable. Whatever you choose, I know you can do it! This is a huge step toward a a healthy lifestyle. You've got this!!!!!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

And feel free to reach out Britt! I am a total over eater- it's my Achilles heel. The Wellbutrin really did help- not 100% but the eating was not as mindless and intense. It's hard to explain. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I was prescribed Wellbutrin to help quit smoking for surgery. I was one of the lucky ones who LOVED being on it (minus the adjustment in the first week or so.) I ate way less, had no desire to smoke, and as a bonus I didn't dwell on things or have horrible days at work. I felt like I no longer spiraled when things happened and I didn't unnecessarily worry about things. Unfortunately, after a month I broke out in hives for an entire week and had to stop taking it. I'm semi devastated, but it really made me wonder if I should have been taking something a long time ago. I didn't even realize how amazing I really felt in it until I had to stop. I truly hope this works for you too and you start to notice it making a difference in your thoughts. Good luck!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

You look absolutely amazing! Can I ask how tall you are? You look so similar to me (i'm about 5 feet tall) and I'm always trying to see if people are similar to me in height and build. You by no means have to answer! What an inspiration Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
What Dub said. I was dragging my feet and moaning about it until I made myself snap out of it. I told myself that I always say I would do ANYTHING within my power to get the surgery and live a healthy lifestyle. Smoking (e-cig or normal tobacco) directly conflicts with this. I'm one month smoke free and could not be happier! I smell or see others smoking and want to puke! Ok, that was a little dramatic, but I've certainly become a slight hypocrite Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Not hostile- just be honest about what you're doing instead of fake asking for advice to get people to click on the link and order. This forum is not the place to sell things in an underhanded manner. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
