The airline changes - did you see the news?

I've never heard of such a thing. I carried my handbag and laptop on board with me. When did these changes take place? I fly Delta and have never encountered them.

    For Dr. C: a Conundrum

Congrats on your surgery. I told you in an earlier thread not to worry that everything would be fine, and it sounds like it is. God Bless and keep up the good work. It should be clear sailing from now on. Sounds like everything went great with your surgery.

    low profile port brand??

I have a low profile port but a 10 cc Vanguard belt. I can feel the port...it is very tiny and feels like a little box. I don't think it will ever present any problems. I would definitely want the smaller port. I saw it as compared with the bigger port and there is a world of difference in both size and weight.

    Fill Needle

I'm looking forward to getting my first fill. Nothing could compare to the injection I got in my knee yesterday. Spray on stuff stunk big time and did nothing for the excruciating pain of the needle into an already sore area from surgery. My fill should be a piece of cake with my surgeon knowing exactly where he placed my port and so experienced with fills. I'll take a fill anyday compared to what I just went through.

    anesthesia

It may be possible to awake, but I'm doubting it seriously....I had a 6 hr. bypass surgery and don't remember anything till I woke up in rocovery still on the ventilator but paralyzed. At that time I was in some pain because the ventilator was breathing for me and was squeezing my heart. I needed some IV pain medication. My hand started waking up and I was trying to write on the bed "hurt". A nurse immediately told me once my eyes were open and they had flushed the vent out it would be removed and it was....probably the only operation you wake up from wishing for a moment you haden't. The pain of the next few weeks is immeasurable and I only hope no one has to endure this and the long recovery period. My red blood cells went on vacation and didn't return for months and I was anemic. If they could keep me asleep for 6 continual hours for heart surgery I'm sure the 1/2 hr. to 1 hr. it takes for lap-banding is a piece of cake.

    Getting Depressed

I had surgery on July 18, and lost 10 lbs. post-op and 8 since than. I realize that this is a time for healing...so why be depressed. I'm thrilled with the 18 lbs. without my first fill which I don't get till Aug. 30. I think you have done fine.
  7. Again...as stated in a heartbeat. I went through about a yr. before being banded so got lots of time to research. It's been a wonderful decision up to this point. I've had absolutely no problems.
  8. I had my surgery on July 18. My scars are so well healed they are hardly visible. I have dropped 18 lbs. and have been feeling great. I'm 64 years old, so hardly a spring chicken. How horrible that your mom fell. That would definitely worry me. I certainly hope she finds a solution to her problem soon. Where was she banded if I can ask? I'm feeling great, so really can't be of any help, but certainly send out a prayer for her. How old is Mom?

    Surgery costs mega $$$

Not always correct!! I have severe sleep apnea. I spent the night in a regular hospital room not hooked up to anything. I was never required to have a colonoscopy (never heard of one being required). I have many medical problems including having had open heart surgery, so if anyone should have had to be followed closely it would have been me. I had great care, but certainly just stayed the night and went home, not hooked up to anything. I needed clearance from my cardiologist, an EKG, thallium scan, psych eval, letter from PCP, sleep apnea study and a couple other things, but certainly have never heard of anyone with sleep apnea having to spend the night or 2 nights (eek Gods) in ICU. That is beyond belief. Please don't speak for all of this, as I wasn't required to do most of this stuff, and many people are not. I also wasn't required to have an endoscopy. It was never, ever mentioned. I had a top surgeon at Vanderbilt and never had one bit of a problem. Sounds like money gouging to me. Find another surgeon.
  10. So glad to hear from you. We've been worried about you. I think a colonoscopy is probably the way to go to rule out polyps or anything else. So sorry you are going through this. It doesn't sound band related at all. Please take the advice that if you feel dizzy to go back to the ER. You don't want to lose too much blood. Don't even worry about paying them for now. You can worry about that later when you are feeling better. My prayers are with you.
  11. I'm curious why I can feel the port so quickly. I have lost nothing but belly fat I believe...that is where the weight is gone from and I can feel this little knot like thing which is my port. It is a low profile port and isn't very big, but feels like a hard knot to me. The incisions are practically healed, but this feeling is weird. When I lay down especially I feel it, although when I look at my stomach I don't see any bumps at all. Is this common? I'm hoping the port isn't flipped or something. I don't see the dr. until Aug. 30. It doesn't hurt, but it sure feels weird to feel this. I'm only about 3 weeks out, and just curious if everyone can feel their port. Thanks.
  12. Mine is on the right side about 2 inches below my bra line....in a great place I think. I found it today in the shower....now I have trouble keeping my hands off it

    Should I feel the port...

I definitely need to leave the port alone. I will try hard to do that, but now that I know it's there it's going to be difficult. Another obstacle to overcome.
  14. I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps once I get a fill I will be tooting up a storm. I'm so tired of feeling left out
  15. Worried about Hedwig..I wonder if she was admitted? I hope all is well with her. Let's send out a prayer for her.

    Pulling feeling? What is it?

I have a low-profile port and just found it in the shower. It is on the right hand side below my bra line. It hurt for a few days after surgery but is fine for the most part. It was strange to feel this little thing inside me though....weird and now I keep touching the darned thing. I sleep on my side just fine, but I've been kind of weird in that I didn't get the gas; had little pain and only for a few days; so I'm not typical I don't think. It could be because I don't get much excercise because I had knee surgery one week before banding. I think perhaps some of you are much more active than me and probably feel the port pulling because of that. Good Luck.

    Hypochondriac alert

I'm sure complications are very real things for people, but I try to keep a positive attitute also. I was banded on July 18 and have done fine. There has been no crushing of pills...I've moved onto solids and there is nothing I can't eat...OK no fill yet...that is a biggie, but I refuse to read the scary threads on fills. I don't ever want my dr. to be aggressive. I want him to do things slow like he wants to and I'll never push for more. I don't want to experience a PB, but it will probably happen at some point, but why worry about something that hasen't happened yet? Keep the positive attitude and you should do fine. I've been through many surgeries, heart by-pass being by far the worse, and lap-banding was a piece of cake with little pain involved and only for a few days. I've had no gas, so I don't relate to those threads either. I think I'm the weirdo on here, but I'm 18 lbs. ligher and 18 lbs. happier without my first fill. Good luck to all of you.
  18. Unless the dr. is playing a trick on me and there is no band really there I can't relate to the gas thread at all. I was banded July 18th and have never had a bit of gas (from either end)....OK I must be the weird one here. I'm feeling left out.

    anesthesia

If I had this happen to me I don't think I would be in any shape to be posting the next day for one thing. For another this is this poster's very first post on this forum. I would be screaming out the name of the surgeon and the hospital to start with. The post was scary and very evasive and I sceptical to say the least. It is going to leave many people frightened, and I wonder if that wasn't the intent of the post. I for one have never experienced this while working in a hospital for 38 years, and I for one have to speak up and say I don't believe this post or this poster. OK...There I said it. There is absolutely no info given on who the dr. or the hospital was and that is enough for me to believe the incident did NOT occur. If the poster wants to come back and name names go for it, but otherwise for all of you going through lap banding in the near future my experience was wonderful, both with anesthesiology and with the surgeon. I can't say enough about the wonderful treatment I received, and I don't recall a thing from the time I got to the OR to till I woke up in recovery not feeling at all nauseated, but just sore. I got some Demerol for pain and back off to sleep. I think this is a scare tactic and a cruel one at that.

    Should I feel the port...

You are right Stitchy...I vaguely remember Pregnant (many years ago) and it is much the same. I'm making it sore from fooling around with it... :scared:

    anesthesia

The anesthesiologist's main job is to keep an eye on you. Where on earth did you have your surgery done is my question too? There is something very wrong with this picture. If you "saw and felt everything" then you are saying the team, nor the anesthesiologist saw you were awake? I'm waiting to hear a lot more on this one. I'm thinking if this happened in a US hospital there is probably going to be a major malpractice suite. Tell me that you aren't joking about this....it's really quite unbelievable. How could you possibly have endured this and be posting one day later?????? Answers needed on this end for sure and I add another hummmmmmmmm. Why did you let the name of the surgeon who banded you out? That seems strange to me. I hope you come forth and post some more info, because if you told them you were awake during the whole thing, my thoughts are you would still be in the hospital after an ordeal like that. So....who banded you and where? We most definitely need to stay away from that place.
  22. A rather personal question because I don't know you or your age or anything is "Is there any chance you were pregnant". They are going to ask you this in the ER I'm sure.
  23. As a retired nurse I would think perhaps this is a ruptured hemorrhoid or something like that. That would account for the bright red bleeding. I would most definitely get it checked out before you lose too much blood. The ER is required to see you insurance or no insurance. Let us know how you are doing.

    Should I feel the port...

It's a really weird feeling. The dr. had told me it wouldn't feel like much because it is low profile (it makes me wonder what the bigger ports feel like)....I guess I better get used to it. Now that I've felt it, I can't keep my hand away from it. Paulax I hope you heal soon. My incisions healed beautifully and I rubbed my hand over this by accident in the shower...it was like Wow what is this strange thing (even though I knew it was there). It feels likie a small boxy lump is the best way to describe it, but it doesn't protrude when I look at my stomach. Strange how we lose weight...I was hoping for the all over affect and it's strictly in my stomach so far. Thanks for answering.

    any advice

Fleet's glycerine suppositories might just do the job. You also might think about taking Ducolax, but I would try the suppositories first.
