2nd Stage DS'ers - Can you please share your journey?

Thank you so much for sharing! Good luck with your last surgery! Wishing you a great recovery and hopefully, we can touch base then!
  2. I was sleeved Aug 2012. I am a low BMI sleever: highest weight ever = 210, was 198 on the day of surgery, got down to 148 in 8 months and then started regaining, even though I was not doing anything differently. I still, to this day, have plenty of restriction. When I started regaining, I gained 26 lbs in 5 months and I've been stuck there since. I have been hovering between 174-178 for almost two years. Whether I restrict my calories, run and lift weights or do nothing and eat whatever I want, I remain the same weight. I have been considering revision surgery for quite sometime now and will most likely have the DS. I am looking to hear from those of you who had the DS as second stage surgery. If you can please share the reasons you had the DS as 2nd stage, what you experience was like and most importantly your weight loss progress or experience with regain, I would greatly appreciate it.
  3. I was sleeved 4 years ago by Dr. Ariel Ortiz. Since then, I have had GERD. I have gone through several diets and tests to get rid of the pain, but only a high dosage of Omeprazole twice a day helps. I also have about 40-45 lbs to lose. So I have been considering revision to the Bypass. Would love to hear from any of you who have gone through this major step: What were your reasons? What were your results like? Most importantly, who was your surgeon? And can you tell me about your experience? I am currently in the process of deciding on a revision surgeon in Mexico. Looking into having surgery by December or so. Thank you for reading and for anything you can share.

Revision from VSG to RNY Due to GERD

Thank you all so much for your feedback! I recently found this interesting study and it notes two promising points: • "Our experience appears to be one of the largest in the literature." • "Acid reflux symptoms resolved in 100% of patients..." Not sure if I'm allowed to post links on here, but here it goes: Revision of Primary Sleeve Gastrectomy to Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, Indications and Outcomes from a High Volume Center http://www.sages.org/meetings/annual-meeting/abstracts-archive/revision-of-primary-sleeve-gastrectomy-to-roux-en-y-gastric-bypass-indications-and-outcomes-from-a-high-volume-center/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Do you use PatchMD vitamin patches?

I also have been thinking of the same thing, as I thought maybe they can develop Patches specifically designed for bariatric patients; an ever growing population IMHO. I was sleeved 4 years ago, got in an accident driving home from work (I simply passed out at the steering wheel) and this led me to discover that I was significantly Iron deficient and needed an immediate iron transfusion. I was recently told the same thing, but I simply refuse to have another transfusion. My B12 and Vitamin D were also not that great. I ordered 4 months worth of the patches (they recently had a 30% off deal). My order arrived 4 days ago, including the Multivitamin patch, iron, vitamin D with Calcium, and B12. Total with shipping and tax = $249.54. I don't know if it's all in my head, but today is the first day, I go through everything I need to do without needing to pass out into a random nap -- sometimes before I am able to drive home. But wow, I feel so good today and I am still up and not sleepy at all. I use all 4 patches together by the way and leave them on pretty much all day till I need to shower/replace. Can't wait to get blood work done 3 months from now and see concrete results, especially since I am thinking of having revision surgery -- sleeve to RNY due to GERD issues and wanting to lose more weight, and my deficiencies have been discouraging. Renewed strength and hope today, thanks to these amazing patches!
  8. Hello! I am 4 years post-op VSG. I have been reviewing some research where VSG to RNY revision patients, who had [severe] acid reflux, were cured after Bypass. I was hoping to please get feedback from those of you who had VSG surgery and then converted to the RNY: How severe was your acid reflux after VSG? How many years did you wait before you convert? Was GERD the only reason? Did the RNY revision completely cure your GERD? Would greatly appreciate your feedback!
  9. Hello! Newbie over here – Even though I have been using this forum for years! I am 4 years post-op VSG. I am very happy with my weight loss and maintenance, but I never had any issues with acid reflux prior to my surgery! For the past 4 years, I have been struggling daily with my acid reflux issues. I take medication every single morning and night and without it, I am in an incredible amount of pain. I am unable to lie down or sleep properly, and this causes tension for my neck and my back. Just slightly bending down makes the food regurgitate and it’s very painful. For the past 8 months, I feel immense tightening and pressure in my chest and it is so very uncomfortable, especially when I am around people. GERD is also starting to slightly alter my voice and my singing range. I have sought to find a cure several times. I've had two endoscopies (they dilated my esophagus during the second one), and several barium swallow tests. The tests don’t show anything abnormal. I have tried so many different drugs, diets, and remedies to no resolve. I've even tried a natural medicine MD and hypnosis, to no avail. I have been reviewing some research as well as other forums where Sleeve to RNY revision patients, who had [severe] acid reflux, were cured after Bypass. I was hoping to get feedback from those of you who had VSG surgery and then converted to the RNY/bypass: Did you have acid reflux after your VSG? How severe was it? How many years did you wait before you convert? Was GERD the only reason? Did the RNY revision completely cure your GERD?
