  1. Ok, so today was day 16 post surgery and I feel great. No problems at all. My only concern is that I lost about 10 pounds in the first 7 days and have only lost 1 pound in the 9 days since. Did this happen to anyone else? I know about embracing the stall and everything, but this was quick! I'm getting my Protein.....could probably get a bit more Water in, and I feel great. Clothes do fit noticeably different, so definitely good there. Just need to trigger some weight loss. Lol

Thats great! I'm kind of annoyed right now. I'm only two weeks since surgery and am already stalled for nearly a week. Ive lost 11 pounds since surgery, but only 1 pound in the last week. I'm just kinda rolling with it for now, but it's annoying! Lol

  4. Day 3 is in the books.< /p>

Woke up this morning feeling pretty good. Stood up out of bed and coughed once. Then the pain was ON from my large incision. Not quite as bad as yesterday. Wife gave me my shot of blood thinner, that still stings a bit. Water is going down easier today, in total I got down 40oz of fluids including a few ounces of Protein shakes. Still need to work on getting in the Protein as well as a bit more Water.

Feeling pretty good I thought I'd walk to the mailbox about a block away. That was a little much and I was hurting pretty bad by the time I got back. The rest of the day I just focused on sip sip sip and tried not to agitate my sore spot. Had a couple coughs through the day usually right after using my incentive spirometer. Those coughs caused quite a bit of pain. Staying ahead of it with my pain medicine is helping.

Getting back into bed wasn't nearly as painful as it has been the last few days. Checking my blood sugar and blood pressure often. Both are staying in a normal range without the use of medication. It's like the surgery just flipped a switch. So far I am very pleased with my decision and am looking forward to getting to the point where I can have real food. I plan on working that sleeve for all its worth. There are some awesome recipes for sleevers here on the forums and on YouTube. I'm ready for small but nutritious meals to fill me up and watch the weight melt away.

Looking forward to what tomorrow has to bring for my recovery!

Great update! I'm glad things are getting better. For what it's worth, today was day 6 for me and I had virtually no pain at all. Not even from the incision. Walked quite a bit today. Things turn a big corner right around the 5-6 day mark. Hopefully you experience the same!

Good for you! I'm one week post op and am off my medicine. My sugars seems pretty good. I wanted to check what others experienced a bit further out when they started back to eating normal food. Good luck on your surgery. The forums are great for knowing what to expect. Keep us posted!

  6. I think everyone has those "am I doing the right thing" feelings before surgery, but if you sit and listen to yourself you will know the answer. I was nervous before surgery and most people are. I remember sitting in the pre-op area and it was about 90 minutes before my scheduled surgery time. My surgeon came in to see me and he said "we are ahead of schedule this morning and we should be going in about 20 minutes." THAT was when I got really nervous. I just had to take some deep breaths and relax. Everything went great.

  7. Good for you! My surgery was 5 days ago and I feel really good. At this point the only "pain" I have is from the one larger incision site in the middle of my abdomen. Maybe an occasional muscle pain, but otherwise the pain and discomfort you have now gets more comfortable in just a few days. Try getting as much of your Fluid and Protein in as you can. It will be a challenge to hit the numbers they told you! Keep us posted on your progress!

  8. Hi folks. I am 5 days out from surgery and am browsing the discussion topics on the forum. One thing I am curious about is the experience people who had type II diabetes before the surgery have after the surgery. Did you come off all your meds? How are your sugars now, etc? I took oral meds for my type II before surgery and have not taken them since surgery and my sugar numbers are generally good, staying under 140, but today I had one that was 228. I know those may not be horrible to some people, but its just something I am interested in hearing what others experienced. Thanks!

  9. Thanks redsox06. I'm 3 days out right now and feel pretty good. I am having trouble getting the amount of liquid down that I need but I heard that gets better. The pain is tolerable and I'm not taking the pain meds all that much anymore. I'm just taking it one day at a time, but things are going well. I know things will be good once the pain goes away and I can take in more Fluid.

  10. I woke up in recovery feeling like I'd been hit by a bus and I wasn't allowed to drink anything just suck on a wet face cloth and my mouth was so dry! They gave me anti-nausea meds which actually made me throw up, so that was a bit scary right after waking up and it took me 3 goes taking them to realise what was making me sick.

In hospital I really only used my pjs and sports bra, chap stick, pillow, a good book and my iPad. I had 2 morphine injections into the actual stomach when in hospital and was then on oral meds for a week, which were easy to swallow as it was only max 2 at a time.

It took me 2 weeks to be pain free and the hardest part about the first 2 weeks was adjusting to what I could eat and still sitting down with my family when they ate. You don't realise how much of a social activity eating is, until you're at a table and everyone else is eating and you're not. I also couldn't watch TV, too many food adds lol. The incision they used to remove my stomach remnant hurt the most and and I was really aware of it when I twisted, turned and bent over.

During the first 2.5 weeks, I had a 1.5-2 hour nap everyday, it's normal to feel crappy in the first 3 weeks, you're body is recovering from major surgery and then adjusting to your new stomach.

However all that aside, I'm now almost 3 months out, down 70lbs and everything was definitely worth it and then some! Would do it again in a heartbeat At 3 months out I can eat anything I want just in much smaller quantities, which is good. This surgery has completely and drastically transformed my relationship with food for the better.

I know it's scary but just try to take your recovery 1 day at a time, each day it gets a little easier

Jobey, I can definitely relate to feeling hit by a bus. Sheesh. They hit me, did a u-turn and ran me down a second time. The first night was pretty rough but the pain meds helped. I'm home now and figuring out a routine.

  11. Well, tomorrow is surgery day for me. The pre-op diet hasn't been too terrible, but I have had a bit of headache and am tired. I'm not too nervous right now, but I have a feeling I will be very nervous in the morning. Tonight I am going to get a small bag packed for the overnight hospital stay. I'm confident things are going to go well and I am already looking forward to being back home!
