Why is it that, in the R&R section, people are aloud to only rant about certain things!!! For example if someone says "I hate when people ask dumb questions" For many, that type of ranting is fine. Now on the other hand when someone makes a statement like this "I hate it when people tell other people they are asking dumb questions" the response often goes something like this. "This is the R&R section if you don't like it piss off" Seems to me if this is the Rants and Raves section one should be able to rant about whatever they choose.
It all comes back to my original provocation, you can rant however you want just don't tell me how to rant.
Now on the other hand if you don't like what I just said then don't read it, this is the Rants and Rave section don't ya know!

I have participated in this forum for about 3 years and this probably about the 5th time I have seen threads very similar to this one. Most members of this forum have a lifecycle. I won't go into detial but,the join and begin their participation by asking questions. They soon become active members and start to get involved in many ways. At some point they become annoyed at the new members that are asking questions that now seem simple to them. Eventually they no longer have much interset in the board and they move on.
Usually this type of thread creates a controversy because it can offend new members. It is important to note that individuals learn and process information differently. Some people love to do volumes of research and others want to know what they need to know and they want to know it right now. Many people fall in the middle somewhere but it is unfair to condem anyone just because their learning style different or the knowledge of the topic is minimul.
Honestly I have grown to dislike threads that discuss how other people should approach their journey or what types of questions are stupid and which ones are not.
Conversley I probably took part in a similar thread as an agreable participant about 2 1/2 years ago.

P.S. You said " When the whole earth said the world was flat" When was that? You may have a sense of what the prevailing thought of western civilization may have been but I don't think you can surmise what the whole earth thought at any given time. Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't it the Christians who were adamant that the world was flat. Remember the Dark Ages, if I am not mistaken I think that was brought on by Christian's. Just another Christian movement that espoused backword ideals that impeded the advancment of mankind.

I have just begun to read this thread and I admit that I made it to about page 8 before I had to post a reply. If I should merely be repeating something that was already posted I apologize. I have a hard time with this debate because people's opinions are based on their personality type. I believe in a Women's right to control their bodies. I also do not like abortion so you could say that I am Pro-Choice but Anti-Abortion. It seems kind of odd but I do not think the two camps are mutually exclusive.
I also believe that in the great majority of cases the individuals involved (In this case the pregnant female in conjunction with other's involved) will make the right decision. The issue is not black and white and because of this we cannot make hard and fast rules. For every example given as to why we need hard and fast rules there is a counter example that proves that course to be a foolish direction to choose indeed.
Gadget you are a very black and white person so for you answers need to be black and white, the problem is that the world is not always a black and white place and every time you describe a scenario that involves evil people killing babies I imagine a scenario where the life of a healthy adult female is saved at the expense of a fetus with no chance of survival.
Because you are black and white you have a hard time with the grey and I doubt you will ever concede that there will ever be a legitimate reason to perform this or any type of abortion. You say that you do not approve of one individual deciding for another whether they should live or die but you are willing to make that decision for another. You somehow beliive that if there are hard and fast rules the problem will be solved but they will be your rules and they will create a whole new set of problems.
I prefer that these decisions be made individually by those involved at the time. Each case is different so a wide variety of solutions should be considered and I hope that those involved will make the best decision. Your black and white approach does not allow for the exceptions and as such is far less kind a solution. Absolutism does not work, it may seem to provide simple solutions but I think in the long run it proves to be an absolute disaster.
