  1. This is Day 6 and I have gained 15 pounds. My blood pressure went dangerously low. They helped combat that with extra fluids. I know in my mind this will change, but it's frustrating. Hoping it goes down some by the time I see my surgeon in 18 days.

Your progress is wonderful. Just stick with your plan, and be proud of any loss you have. You're doing gread!

  2. I'm a teacher. My surgery is scheduled for Dec 14, and then I get to be off until January 3rd. I know it varies for everyone, but under best case scenario, what kind of minimum restrictions should I expect? My students have autism. They are awesome, but some can have difficult behaviors. They pull forcefully on me and sometimes drop to the floorbwhile I have their hand. One might drop his legs in my lap if we're sitting together, or kick his leg up to my abdomina if he's dropped to the flioor. I might have.to pull a table or chairs our of the way, and there's a little gurl I lift in and outbof a wheelchair. (I know that will be off limits for a while!)

The more I think about it, my job is pretty demanding physically. I'm not sure i'll be healed enough to go back in 3 weeks. I was on workman's comp last year and my principal wouldn't let me come back, even when my only restriction was not lifting over 40 lbs. I finally told the doctor not to put any down.

Where were you guys at 3 weeks out?

  3. Are you seeing a psychologist or attending a support group? Face to face, not just online. My surgery isn't until Wednesday, but I will be using both of those to help me transition to a healthier attitude about food.

Identify healthy choices and have nothing else around. Find some behaviour to do when the urges come to redirect you. You can't extinguish a behavior without replacing it with another. I'm going to try some deep breathing, stretching and/or Bible verse affirmations when the time comes.

You are sabotaging yourself. Deep down could you view yourself as unworthy of being happy and healthy? That's a lie. You are a beautiful creation, fearfully and wonderfully made. God desires good things and joy in your life. Let a psychologist help you with these feelings.

Are you having a hard time letting go of what you feel has been your best friend? That is another lie. food is not a friend. It is fuel to help your body stay and get healthy. The sleeve is going to help you regain control over food and no longer be enslaved. You have to be willing to feel the emotions you've been trying to hide from.

I sound so strong on these points because I've been saying them to myself for weeks. I know I am a candidate to be right where you are. I'm writing down all the great things I'll be able to do once I get healthy. I'll have it ready to read when those challenges come. Neither you nor I want to find ourselves in a position of... not just regaining weight, but having to deal with the regret, self loathing, and hopelessness that would bring.

We can do this! I'll be praying for you.

Once again, sorry for the rant.
