How are you managing hunger post op?

I have felt some hunger pangs.... little growly feelings deep inside. I sort of like them. I never used to go long enough without eating to feel them before. If I haven't started getting a meal together, that's when I do. I've been fortunate with no difficulties in eating. As a result I haven't suffered from hunger. How are you managing hunger post op?

To me, head hunger is when you want to eat, but your body isn't needing food. You might be craving a food, missing the social interaction eating has provided, feeling the need for comfort or stress release. Head hunger has alot to do with most of us getting obese. Anxious

Your enthusiasm is great! I didn't feel excited or worried. Didn't feel anything. Use this time to learn what you can about post surgery. Right now you don't have the stress, hormones and discomfort fogging your emotions. You can learn some things that will help you when they happen later. For instance, I read plenty of posts talking about gaining weight right after surgery. I had no idea. Well wouldn't you know, I ended up being one of those people. And not just a few pounds...double digits! But I knew that wasn't abnormal, and I haven't let it discourage me even once. That's from being informed. I wish you well. Hope the time flies by for you. I'm freaking starving.

Ok. This settles it for me. There is too much drama, rudeness and thinskinnedness (if that's a word) around here. It was very helpful before surgery. Just about every question I had about the surgery, healing, and life after surgery had already been covered. I learned so much and felt like I really knew what I was getting into. For that I thank you all. Now, I just don't feel the support. I might as well be at a family dinner where the subject of politics comes up. No fun. I have found a couple of good groups on fb. Some are private, some aren't. I've seen a few of you on those sites. I think that will work better for me. But I think it's important for all of us that we find support and accountability in the 'real' face to face world. I will be seeing a psychologist and attending the local support group. I've noticed thst people I know who have gained weight back have not done that. They have not addressed their relationship with food. I think that will be critical for me. I wish you all the best. Find what works for you, and be self aware. You know when you're BSing yourself, or looking for unwarranted justification. But that's an area of real need. If you truly have not had struggles through your journey, that's pretty amazing. Most of us have resorted to this step because of our inability to lose weight and eat reasonably by sheer determination alone. The patterns and improper relationship with food are deeply ingrained. Socongratulations on your success and thank you for the encouragement. Be well, be determined, and for goodness sake, be kind. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Day 4 Post-Op - Is This Normal?

Those are probably gas pains. They are awful. I've posted this several times, because it works. Lay with your knees and feet high above your head. sleep that way. It helps the pain and also helps expel the gas. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Blahs

Good for you for not beating up on yourself. You're already focused on getting it done tomorrow. I'm only 11 days post surgery, and I've already had a day like you describe. I just couldn't face all that Protein. I decided to give in to it for one day. Luckily liquids aren't a problem for me, and I did get a shake in and all my Water. I told myself this was one day and I got back up the next day and have done well since. I wrote out what I was going to eat the next day, and was sure to start the day with a 30gm shake. This got me back on track. It sounds to me like you are back on track as well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Not losing enough

I was sleeved Dec. 14, and gained FIFTEEN pounds after surgery. I've only lost about 5 of it so far. I think krakkerman is right. I've got to get serious about walking. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. My sister, a nurse, told me that laying with your feet raised up higher than your heart/ head will relieve a lot of the gas pain. When I got home I slept with three thick pillows stacked against the headboard and my head down towards the foot of the bed. Sounds silly, but it worked. I'm nervous

I got approved a few days after they got the documentation. I wasn't too anxious because I had seversl comorbidities. My concern was I hadn't lost alot during my 3 month preop stage, but the nurse said as long as there was no gain between the first weighin and the last. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sipping Water

I love Water and end up drinking more than one ounce. In 15 mins. Will this damage the sleeve? I stop when I feel full. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sipping Water

I called the doctor's office. Thenurse told me Water was a freebie and I could have more if I tolerated it. The one ounce every 15 minutes is more like a minimum to avoid dehydration. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. Like you, I hit a point where eating the same old Protein was distasteful to me. So today I went to one of those cafeteria places with the good old fashioned food. I got a small container of the juice from the green Beans. Even watered down it tasted so darn good. I only had a few sips. Going to try adding Protein powder tomorrow. I set myself up today

Thanks, NurseBec. I had a plan for the next day, and followed it through. Didn't beat myself up, and like you said, now I know. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. I overdid yesterday and was wiped out. Slept late and just couldn't get myself to go heavy on Protein. So now it's 4:30 and I've only had about 4 grams. I guess it will be 2 premier shakes and run to the restroom all night. Planning is important for success, and today I didn't do it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Denied

Someone told me to do this if insurance ever denied a procedure. Apparently the boards that make these decisions aren't doctors. 1. Who made the decision? 2. Are they Hippa certified? (Very imp ????) 3. Can I see their certifications? Insurance resubmitted the paperwork and they were approved. I don't think it was regarding bariatric surgery, but I wrote them down just in case.
