Tricare - does is, or does it not

Thanks for that extra information. Out of pocket expenses for me will be hard being that I have 5 children. They range from 17 - 2 yrs old. My husband is active duty & will be going on deployment in the next couple of months. So, I need to be very careful with our money spending. I need to make note of all the extras that I will need to be paying for that my insurance won't cover. Thanks again!

Tricare - does is, or does it not

Thank You So Much For That Information. I'm Sorry To Hear About Your Friend. I Too, Have Heard Horror Stories On The Gastric Procedure....my Children's Grandmother Passed Away From It. As Well As My Best Friend's Cousin. But, I Do Know 2 Other People That Have Had It Done As Well, & They Are Both Extremely Happy With Their Results & They Both Are In Great Health From It. I Guess It's Pretty Much A Risk You Take With Any Surgery You Have.

Tricare - does is, or does it not

Today I was on the Tricare West website & I looked up coverage for this & this is what I got: Gastric Bypass TRICARE covers gastric bypass, gastric stapling and gastroplasty to include vertical banded gastroplasty and laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (Lap-Band surgery) is covered only when the beneficiary meets one of the following conditions: Is 100 pounds over ideal weight for height and bone structure and has one of these associated conditions: diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cholecystitis, narcolepsy, Pickwickian syndrome, hypothalamic disorders or severe arthritis of the weight-bearing joints Is 200 percent or more over ideal weight for height and bone structure Has had intestinal bypass or other surgery for obesity and because of complications, requires another surgery (takedown) TRICARE does not cover: Nonsurgical treatment of obesity, morbid obesity, dietary control or weight reduction Biliopancreatic bypass, gastric bubble or balloon for the treatment of morbid obesity Can someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I read here that Tricare covers both surgeries.....Gastric & Lapband????

    My Surgery is Scheduled!

Thank you so much for the information! Well, I know my doctor checked & my BMI is 45. I'm 5' & I weigh 233 lbs. My knees & lower back have been hurting alot. I did mention that to her as well. So, Tricare will pay for the fills as well. I keep reading how people have to pay alot of money for that. So, you just had yours done? How are u feeling? I wish you the best, I can't wait!

    My Surgery is Scheduled!

Hi, I am trying to get the ball rolling for myself to get Lap Band surgery as well. I'm in the baby steps right now. Can you give me some insight into the costs of it all. My husband is currently active duty. We also have Tricare prime. I would love to hear from you regarding your experience in this whole procedure. Thank you!

    Trying to make a decision...

I'm right now in the process of beginning the steps to Lap Band Surgery. Hopefully! I was wondering if you ended up meeting Dr. Owens or get any feedback on him. I also live in the San Bernardino area & am considering him as well. Thanks!
