Newbie Here! My story so far...

I was sleeved on November 15th and have lost 21 lbs in 2 weeks! I woke up in a lot of pain after surgery and it took about a week to feel normal again. I can only eat a few bites of food and have no issues getting my Water in, however i am still working on meeting my Protein goals. I am never hungry so I really have to make myself eat food. I have no regrets after surgery and look forward to becoming a better version of myself!
  2. Hello Everyone! I figured it was time to join a forum because I'm sure I'm driving my friends crazy with all the VSG talk! Anywho, my name is Erin and I am 32. After many years of struggling with my weight decided to look into the VSG on July 28th. On that day I quit smoking (cold turkey), quit drinking alcohol, and coffee! I attended my first seminar on Aug 8th and it made me feel like this is definitely the right decision for me. Thankfully my family and friends are all very supportive so it helps. I have my first appointment with my surgeon on August 26 to go over the insurance and surgery requirements. I don't think I have any cormobidies but my BMI is 45. Today I went to get a check up with my PCP and am scheduled for an ultrasound due to some stomach pain I have been having. He is worried it may be my spleen. I'm hoping it is nothing that will hinder me getting my surgery. I asked my PCP how he felt about wls and he is absolutely against it. He said he would rather me try medication to curb my appitite, because in his experience wls patients gain the weight back. I think I need a new PCP. Luckily my surgery program said they will write the letter of medical necessity for the insurance approval if I am a good candidate. I am very excited to meet with the surgeon and finally get the ball rolling. My plan is to get that checklist completed ASAP so I can be one step closer to a healthier version of myself! Thanks for reading my story!

Congratulations, glad to hear from you again, glad you are approved. I think the approval was last Friday. I called today and was told that I was approved. So glad. I have surgery on Wednesday I am doing GB because I have GERD, HBP, sleep Apnea, and borderline glucose levels, GB cures most people of all these problems. 60% for vanity, 40% about getting rid of all the co-morbidities I have. Do you have your surgery date yet?No date yet. My surgeon is on vacation until next Monday so I will have a date by next Friday. Honestly I would do GB if I had any comobididies but the sleeve will have to do. Please let me know how you are after surgery when you are feeling up to it! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App I will keep you posted. I had RNY surgery on October 26th I have not been in any pain at all. The only problems I had was feeling nauseated/queasy really more like motion sickness. I spent two days at the hospital feeling this way. Once I got home Friday October 28th, I was able to go to solve my nausea/sick queasy/motion sickness feeling, I am a nurse. I was able to get some real rest as well. I am very grateful for the opportunity to have the surgery paid for at 100% by my insurance company. I no longer have high blood pressure, GERD is dramatically improved no reflux, still a little coughing now and then, no sneezing as I was several times a day almost every day, due to hiatal hernia correction I no longer choke when drinking. Sleep apnea, no longer tired throughout the day when I have decided it is time to get out of bed. Due to sickness and lack of sleep being awakened every two hours to walk even while telling the nurses I was sick, I have spent most of my time resting this week and trying to eat and stay hydrated. I plan next week as I am stabilizing now to begin my exercise to get my weight loss going quicker. Still a little tired, a little woosy when walking and a little spacey sometimes when talkiing but no pain at all and not taking any medicine as of today and still doing good. I do understand why after surgery it takes a little more time to come back and post experiences. My post-op is November 8th, hope I can show some numerical weight loss, thank goodness I voted early. oh, I never took one drop of pain medicine and did not have my prescription for oxycodone filled. I had a great surgeon and I have a high tolerance for necessary pain.So great to hear that you are doing well! I was definitely praying for you to have a smooth recovery. Im still waiting to find out my surgery date. I should know one day this week. Are you having any issues getting enough liquids? Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

Glad to hear positives about Dr Houseworth! I'm getting sleeved by him next week, Nov. 3. I was a little nervous that he didn't require preop diet, but sounds like everyone has done just fine! Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App I was wondering about a preop diet too. How quickly after your approval were you scheduled for surgery? I have to wait until he's back next week before I get my date. Good luck to you!!! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App I was approved on Oct.10th, their earliest date was Oct. 25th, but I couldn't do that so I took Nov.3. I know the waiting is hard! Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App So very hard!!! I really appreciate your posts. Please let me know how things go for you. This is very exciting Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App I had Dr. Houseworth too! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Oh yay! Care to share your experience!?! Preop diet? How surgery went? I'm open to anything at this point! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App I'm 5 months post op right now. Surgery was May 23, 2016. I wasn't required to do any pre op diets. I did have to do 4 months of nutritional counseling, lab work, and various physical exams. I've lost 101 pounds so far. It's been good! I've had no issues except my gallbladder needed to be taken out 2 months after my WLS. Dr. Houseworth is great, but honestly I don't interact with him much. I'll see him for my 6 month checkup, but other than that, I've only seen him 3 times. 2 for prep op and then on the day of surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Congrats on your weightloss! That's amazing! Glad to hear you are going well! Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

. I had Dr Houseworth as well! He is very skilled. My sister in law used to work in ICU and she spoke to a surgery tech who sang Dr H's praises. He said he would not hesitate to have Dr. Houseworth operate on anyone he loves. He is very good and that was my experience too. Hope you have a smooth recovery! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App Thank you! It's great talking to someone who had him also! I felt confident in him from day one. Did he have you do a preop diet?
