JayVSG reacted to JamieLogical in Can I have bread and if not why?
Once I was cleared for bread (40 days post-op), I still didn't eat it much because it's just so filling. When you are trying to get in 100 grams of Protein a day and have a tiny pouch/sleeve, it's just not worth wasting space on bread. My NUT never gave me a limit on carbs, just told me to always prioritize Protein and make sure I got in my 100 grams. In doing so, I found I had to pretty much cut out bread completely.
Even now, 2 years out, I never eat bread with a "meal", because I just don't have room for my protein AND bread. I will occasionally have a piece of whole grain toast with Peanut Butter as a snack before a long run (I'm running a marathon on September 18) just to try to get some carbs in to help fuel my long run.

How hard is it for you guys not to drink while eating, I caught my self a couple times taking a sip while eating.

It's super simple for me. If I drink within 30 minutes of drinking, I vomit. I don't like vomiting.

It was hard, but you'll get into the swing of things. The discomfort was the reminder that I needed. It will work out for you...good luck!

I got full on 4-5 bites of mashed potatoes. Everyone is different. Try having some Protein before the potatoes and you will feel more satisfied.

Call your insurance and ask, my insurance company didn't offer gastric sleeve (bariactric surgery) even though I am obese it just wasn't part of my plan, I ended up going on my wife's insurance and they covered it

I just started mine. Only Protein for a week. Tiny pieces, chewed 40 times per bite. I've had grilled chicken, a lean Teeny burger, scrambled eggs with ham and low fat cheese, tuna with low fat mayo. It was So good to chew, but you get very full very fast!

I'm not sure if you have to puree the tuna. I've seen it on some plans at this stage. You would definitely have to add mayo or something - it'd be too dry plain.

I lost 55lbs prior to surgery......then at 3 weeks I had my bp meds cut in half.
Now.....at 10 months.....I have zero meds for bp.

I was taken off blood pressure meds concurrent with surgery and never took them again. My surgeon requires people with HBP to get a home blood pressure monitor and measure blood pressure 2x per day for several weeks after surgery. He says the vast majority of his patients stop taking blood pressure meds and never go back. I have never had a high blood pressure reading since surgery -- before it was almost out of control, even with meds.

Unfortunately I am one of the lucky ones with inherited hpb. Mind you after losing almost 75lbs I am down to one medication from the 5 I was on before. I have come to the realization that no matter how healthy I am, I will always have HBP. Thankfully it isn't malignant like before.
