  1. Finally, someone who's my age and weight range. Hi! My name is Jane, I am 37 current weight is 360 lbs. my height is 5'2 BMI IS 64 I am nowhere near a surgery date as of yet. Not sure exactly what to expect aside from the usual health questions. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How Has Your Food Budget Changed?

Seems like it's going to be much more expensive. We're a family of 3. I know the grocery list won't actually change. Protein and Vitamins are rather expensive no matter where you buy them. Where it actually saves money in my opinion is in the health care bill! I'm really looking forward to my first appointment. I even called to see if the Dr had any cancellations so I could get in sooner. (No luck there) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  6. Ugh. @@Universoul_D Oh lord... No that does not mean they get to use most of the stamps! My understanding, is your going to progress, it's Soup now, but soon you need puréed foods. Ohhh I hear that SOME Protein shakes are covered by FS! I'm not 100% sure on this. If it has NUTRITIONAL values rather than supplemental values its covered. I would try to buy a couple and see if they pass. Those boogers can get expensive! Everyone seems old enough to make their own food and make their own money to get food. Time to lay down some law. 7. You must have teenagers in the house... Honestly, I think the only thing you can do is sit them all down and make them understand that you are doing this for your health, not for fun. And while you do understand that they are hungry monsters, they need to leave something for momma bear. And seeing they enjoy broth and Jello soooooo much, maybe that's all that will be allowed into the house from now on. No more pizza, chips, soda, etc. and if they don't like it, they can go to a friends house and eat. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  13. @@KristenLe guess they rather pay my emergency room visits for the sever pain. But then also not want to pay for the pain meds that I need. I was supposed to be on Celebrex but those boogers are $300!!! Naturally the insurance didn't want to pay for that. I'm sure mines will be the longest track possible. Because my coverage is Nj health care. All they wanna do is give me a damn flu shot once a year but I can bet my life if I had a penis they would pay for me to take a pill to get it working Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. So for the past 2 days now I have been reading everyone's experiences and I applaud each and every one of you for having such discipline and to those struggling, my prayers are with each and every one of you. I have been overweight my entire life. The past 10 years I have gained and gained so much that I am now just over 350 lbs this is the heaviest I have ever been. I have developed sever arthritis in my left knee and can start to feel my right knee going. Thankfully, I do not have high sugar or blood pressure no issues with cholesterol or anything like that. I do get winded VERY EASILY, stairs are my enemy. Walking in general is painful. Since age 5, I have suffered from migraines and take a medication (when they strike) that contains caffeine. I started following a few people on Instagram who had WLS and was amazed at the transformations. Over the past 10 years I have done my fair share of diets losing a few pounds only for it to come right back and then some. I was a member of a gym, I would go a few times a week. But then the arthritis kicked in hard core to where I fall down a lot. Dr after dr mentioned WLS. after finding out recently that my insurance covers it I got the support of my family and currently am set to meet the good Dr on September 9. I joined this site a couple days ago to see the experiences, ask some questions and everyone has been very helpful! Thank you all! I understand this surgery is not magic. It requires dedication, hard work and sacrifice. I adore carbs, bread and Pasta is life! Coke, ginger ale and soda in general I can not eat without. chocolate... Dear sweet love of my life chocolate. Candy not so much cake. I am willing to part with you all. I know I will miss you and maybe, just maybe we can have a stolen moment together in the future. The deal breaker for me with this WLS is coffee. I could give a crap about tea and booze. But my beloved coffee I caN not do without. Wait, let me rephrase that. Without coffee , heads will roll. I am willing to give up smoking (cigarettes) I don't do drugs don't care about booze. And willing to leave behind my chocolate and carbs. I hate to say it but coffee may be the thing to stop me from doing this. Thanks for reading. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Deal breaker.

@@UpandAtom you are absolutely right. After posting this and seeing just how many ARE able to have coffee even if it is decaf or even a coffee flavored Protein shake. (Tricking the mid) it will be worth it. I created a short list of pros. 1. being able to breathe when walking. 2. BEING ABLE TO WALK MORE THAN 10 STEPS! 3. Arthritis pain will be reduced. 4. Being able to spend time with friends and family and not worry that I can't keep up. I have missed out on so many outings because I don't want to hold them up. 5. Lowering the risk of heart problems, blood pressure etc. (I have none of these) 6. Being able to buy clothes that don't look like a clown wiped his face on. MOST IMPORTANT. 7. Being able to watch my sons go from young men to husbands and fathers. Again, I want to thank the entire community here. Each and every one of you have given sound advice and always willing to answer questions and concerns. The level of support here is tremendous. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. Hi all! I am set for very first appointment Sep 9. I was wondering if anyone experienced losing weight in your feet. I'm not talking about the length of your foot. I mean the width and the tops. Mines are so fat on top that I can not even wear sneakers let alone real shoes. I've been stuck in crappy flip flops for a few years now. Family seems to think its Water. But who retains water for 3 years!? I will attach a pic so you can see what I mean. WARNING. THE ATTACHED PHOTO MAY CAUSE GASPS, fainting and vomiting. Ps. I know, I need a pedicure. But arthritis pain has been very bad the past few weeks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  18. It may seem impossible, but it looks like you are definitely retaining water. How is the health of your heart right now? My feet weren't very big, but after losing only 23 pounds, I can definitely tell that they have lost volume on the top, and even in my ankles. I now have to tighten my sandals around the ankle because my ankles and feet are so much thinner than before. My exact thoughts. I was thinking about congestive heart failure. Definitely no issues with my heart. I was surprised too ... So was the cardiologist. Being 350lbs one would expect something wrong there. But, Thank God, no issues, not even a slight murmur with my heart. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  20. Happy Saturday everyone! So, my insurance is going to be covering the surgery (once approved) and now I'm sitting here wondering what the grocery shopping bill will be like for me. What is the average epic that you all spend on necessities for this surgery? Protein shakes, Vitamins Etc. I know this kind of seems like an odd question, but I don't want to going to sticker shock right after surgery LOL Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
