    Re-Coop Time

I have a 2-story and I do fine--I've been up and down the stairs since the day after surgery--faster every day As for the recliner thing--you could check craigs list too--or maybe even on here--on craigs list you may be able to find one cheap enough to buy--doesn't have to be something pretty to look at, just comfortable to sit on--on here, maybe you'd find someone willing to let ya borrow?!? If you are in the Phoenix area, I'd be happy to
  2. OKay.....back the truck up!!!! NOW I KNOW what everyone's been talking about with the flippin' shoulder pain.....YEP....I'VE GOT IT!!!! HOLY COW!!!!That's a freakin' nightmare!!!!!! It's like a heartattack--just well, not in your heart! GEEZE!!!!!! My shoulder actually hurts from me massaging it trying to get the gas bubble to break up!!!! OUCH!!!!! Glad you guys had mentioned it or I would have thought I was gonna die!!!:crying:
  3. Okay, so I was just banded yesterday, and just got home from the hospital this afternoon. I am still very bloated and the incisions are a little painful. I'm trying to eat my pudding and I can't tell if the pains that I'm having are from like gas bubbles, that I'm already full, or if there is just pain from the surgery?!? Anyway for me to know the difference?

    Re-Coop Time

I think everyone's got some good points...I'm going to wait and go back on Tuesday instead of Monday. I feel perfectly fine to go back tomorrow OTHER than the gas pains! If it weren't for those terrible shooting pains that go up into my shoulder (I AM NOW GETTING THOSE), then I'd feel like I never even had surgery. Every now and then I have a little twinge at the incision sites...but for the most part, listen to your body--it will tell you when. I am usually a pretty big whimp and usually milk illnesses for all they are worth, but honestly, the more I am up and doing things, the better I feel. I am by no means an athletic or active type person--I am SO lazy, it's not even funny--but my gas pains feel better when I'm moving around...plus, my incisions get sore when I've been sitting/laying too long. Suggestion: if you have a recliner-sleep and sit on that for a while rather than on a bed or couch--it helps to get from the lying/sitting position to standing position...it's nice in the hospital when you have the bed to help, but at home, the recliner is a good substitute.
  5. I am not finding much gas relief from the MOM although I am definitely having BMs!!!! But it doesn't seem to be relieving the bloating...I am finding relief in a heating pad now! YEA!!! I think the docs should have to let the gas out once they fill us up with it! hahahaha:cursing:
  6. WOW...such varieties--I think I've figure out that its gas and surgery pains. I only wish I was burping more...then I might at least feel like the gas was escaping...my tummy is hard as a rock and bloated like crazy...more at times than at others. I've had no trouble walking--some pain when I first stand up but then it usually subsides. I take the liquid vicodin about twice a day rather than every 4 hours. I'm walking to mailbox several times per day and then went to WalMart and even Home Depot. Took Milk of Magnesia to get a BM going--wow...that worked...but still bloated. Never had shoulder pain--lots of back pain that same day of surgery, but after that, it's been okay...thankfully. HOT TEA is a GOD SEND to me!!!! Soothes heartburn, gas pains, aches, etc!!! EARL GREY with a touch of lemon is making me feel human again!!!!! Diet for Post Op weeks 1-3: Choose 2 oz. of cream of wheat, creamed Soup, pudding or yogurt for break, lunch and dinner. Throughout the day, try to get in 8 oz. of Protein drink. Also, can have 2 oz. of broth, tea, Water, coffee, crystal light, sf Jello, sf popsicles, etc. about 15 min after anything else. I'm definitely not starving...but geez, missing food at times :0( but I know I'm not doing all this for nothing!!!

    Re-Coop Time

I had mine on Thursday (3/20) and I'm feeling okay to go back on Monday I think. I went to WalMart today and was a bit worn out...but I guess it totally depends on the nature of your job too. I'm hoping I can go to church tomorrow and then school (work) on Monday. If not, I know for sure by Tuesday I'll be able to be back.
  8. I think I'm mostly feeling surgery pains...or gas at times--although, I am starting to pass some (last time I was so happy about this was when I had my c-section-12 yrs ago)...think I'm gonna start on some milk of magnesia--my release paperwork says to if I haven't had a BM in 2-3 days and this is the 2nd day post op--if I don't have one today, it's MOM tomorrow--think that will help with the bloating!!!

    Re-Coop Time

Hang in there...my insurance took about a week or so...with the holiday too, it might have gotten delayed...hang in there...it will be so worth it...not that I'm like seeing results yet, but all I know is that the recovery so far is not nearly as bad as I was anticipating...lucky for me--cuz I'm the same way--I'm out of sick leave at school, so if I'm off, I get my check docked several hundered dollars :0(

    Re-Coop Time

Well, I got banded yesterday at 11:00 and they cleared me for discharge at 10 this morning. I feel okay. A little sore, but overall, no problems. I am hoping to be back at work Monday, Tuesday at the latest. Just depends on the person I think.
  11. WOW! Are you banded already? If so, when?
  12. LOL---I'd love to know if there is an answer to this! I am getting banded tomorrow! I STILL have not perfected it...in fact...I have given up on trying and am just hoping that when I am FORCED to, I will just concede!
  13. I have no idea what I'm doing because I have no idea how to get around on this forum thing, I was adding you as one of my contacts and then this thing happened and yeah, so here I am--so anyway...hehehe

  14. I have no idea what I'm doing, but i'm just going with the flow cuz I have no idea how to work my way around here...I was adding you to my contacts and this is what is happening :0) hahaha

  15. started adding noodles in--just a few and a few pieces of the chicken--wow...i feel like i am eating a feast again! It's a nice treat!!! Also--can you have pickles? No calories, no fat, no sugars, only sodium--hmmm...i wonder?!?!

    Re-Coop Time

I am a teacher in Goodyear, AZ. A co-worker had the RNY done and she SWEARS to me that I'll be fine to come back--I am having mine on Thursday of next week and plan to be back on Tuesday. I know many of you will think I'm crazy, but I teach high school and the largest class I have is 24 and they can kind of be put on auto-pilot...so...she swears to me that with her helping out in the classroom, I'll be fine. My sister also teaches next door to me, so that will be a huge help.
  17. Mine is protein drinks 3 or more a day, sugar free jello and popsicles, broths, water, tea, etc...it's more for the elimnation of a fatty liver than it is for weight loss according to my doctor--so it matters what the purpose is for your doc.

    2 day pre op diet?

Very good question...mine is strictly 1 week pre-op liquids only. I find it odd that it varies so much. Has anyone found an answer to this?
  19. It's my understanding that the reason for liquid diet prior to surgery besides weight loss and preparation for the post op dieting is to make the liver leaner. When the liver is not as fatty, it is easier for the doctor to see while operating and easier for him to perform a less complicated surgery...which in my opinion is important. I am on day 2 of the liquid diet and I am able to have Sugar free jello, popsicles, broth (using chicken noodle soup instead of plain broth cuz that is just nasty)--but you can also add seasonings to the broth to flavor it up (i got some from my favorite chines restaurant)...carnation instant breakfast mixed with skim milk and powdered milk...it's not too bad...my little treat is to throw a few of the noodles and a few pieces of meat from the chicken noodle soup...that's my splurge for the day!!! it helps and I don't think I'll endanger myself too badly.
  20. Hey--I'm right there with you! I started mine yesterday and you've made it longer than I did with wanting to cheat! I think I'm gonna have to start have a few noodles in my chicken broth because I just need a little substance! It's not so much the idea that I'm starving or craving--it's just that I WANT something other than LIQUID and jello!!!! I don't even know if I'm supposed to have Campbell's chicken noodle soup broth because it's not truly just broth--but I hate just regular ol broth---but i figure it's better than burgers and fries--at least as far as the surgeon will be concerned. I'm waiting for my doctor's office to open so I can call them to ask. Anyway--write me any time if you're sufferin'--I'll suffer with you! When is your surgery? Mine is Thursday, the 20th!
  21. Hi, my name is Nikki. I am 34 and waiting anxiously to get banded on March 20. I can't wait but have so many questions, fears, and hopes. I found this forum and hope to start finding the answers and put some of my fears to rest. I am a high school reading teacher in Arizona, married and have 3 beautiful daughters. I can't wait to be healthy and thin again!!!

    Waiting for surgery

Very cool...have you gotten approval yet from insurance?
  23. I am having surgery on March 20 and my surgeon's office called last Friday to schedule an Esophageal study for me. However, the nurse couldn't really tell me what it was. Did anyone else have to have this done? If so, was it painful? What does it entail? I couldn't really find anything definitive on the Web about it.

    Esophageal study

Awesome...thanks all for the information. I'm hoping that I will find out more on Friday--just found out I am going in for a whole bunch of labwork and an informational "class" all day on Friday--so--maybe I can find out there what this will be like for sure. I appreciate everyone's information.
