Nikosmama06 got a reaction from Dee~Dee in Always hungry.. failing.. feel like I'm stretching my stomach
Ok. So yes, much of what you are experiencing is likely head hunger. But there is a possibility that you are actually hungry too. Everyone responds to this surgery differently. This surgery is NOT a one size fits all. I had my surgery on September 13th. I experienced both head hunger and real hunger almost immediately. Luckily, my surgeon and nutritionist promote eating real food after 2 weeks, not counting calories and not necessarily measuring your food. According to them, the most important thing is eating the right foods; 100 grams of Protein and no more than 40-50 carbs per day. I eat around 6 times per day, but I usually eat the right foods and , thanks to the surgery, I eat really small portions. Following this plan I have lost 40 lbs in the last 5 weeks!! My head hunger has pretty much subsided ( I occasionally have my moments). In fact l, my physical hunger has actually lessened recently. Another important thing I discovered is that comparing myself to others and constantly being upset that I can intake more food than others on this forum actually led me to make poor food choices (i.e. pretzels and wingets). Once I allowed myself to listen to my body I felt more empowered to make the right choices.
I was worried about stretching my sleeve too. I called my surgeon and my nutritionist and both of them said that stretching a sleeve is not as easy as some think. My surgeon actually said, as long as you eat 1/2 cup or less per meal you should be fine.
Your worries are VALID. Your hunger (head hunger or not) is VALID. Focus on listening to your body, keeping in mind that this is a lifestyle change and what you put in your body is ultimately more important than the size of your sleeve.

Nikosmama06 got a reaction from KaiserKid in Afraid I'm going to suck at this
When I first started I worried about the same things. I think lots of us do. And you are right. There are some people who act so "with it" in regards to following the plan, but most of the ones I've seen had surgery ages ago. Therefore, they may not remember exactly what they did wrong. All they know is that they are happy with themselves now, so they focus on what they did right. This surgery is not the cure-all--it's the starting point! You will have a new stomach and that really helps put things in perspective so you can be able to make the right choices and CURE yourself.
For me, head hunger was crazy the first few weeks and I also kept comparing myself to the others on here who had no appetites or could eat less than I could. I had a pep talk with my NUT who assured me I was on the right track and as long as I listened to my body and ate the right foods I would lose. It has been 6 weeks at 2 days since my surgery and I have lost 40 lbs!! I eat when I'm hungry, I don't measure my food, I focus on maximizing my Protein intake and minimizing my carbs. Just do you, boo!! It will wall work out

Hang in there, girl! You are doing EXACTLY what you need to do; seek advice and support. I don't have much advice for you, but I have a son and a husband (with a normal BMI), so I can relate. Currently I'm at my son's school carnival. There is pizza and all sorts here. I have had to watch my husband devour two slices of my favorite pizza and one tri-tip sandwich. I wanted to chew my arm off, but then I ran into a parent who came up to me and said "You've lost so much weight! What have you done?!". That got me into a more positive mood. I am just here reminding myself that I will hit goal weight and then one day I can have a slice of pizza as a treat. Hang in there and know that you are NOT alone!!

As a "newbie" I expected to see lots of healthy alternative recipes and encouragement in this thread. Instead I found some trolls enjoying "middle school humor" at the original poster's expense. SMH
It's so nice to see that there are some helpful people on here. Thanks again!

I just had surgery 9/13/16. So I know what it's like to have silly food questions pop up in your mind. This should be a comfortable place to ask these questions. There shouldn't be chicken heads running around making sarcastic comments to people who are asking honest questions.
And if you cackling hens don't like my petty response to your pettiness, all I can say is don't dish it out. I'm done going back and forth with you mean women. I have a pretty fine life outside of this thread.
Best of luck to the original creator of this thread.

Don't you think you both are being a bit snobby and judgmental? I certainly do. food has been a problem for MOST of us on here--your no exception, I'm sure! This is a forum for people who need support, not sarcasm and ridicule. Everyone handles this change differently and adjusts differently. She asked a question. I'm sure she wasn't looking for sarcasm or a scolding nor did she deserve one. I feel like I'm in "Mean Girls" the VSG chronicles.

I had to leave after 3 hours. I go back half day tomorrow and I hope I can make it through. It's the beginning of the semester and there's lost to do. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
