Sinuses
A lot of people think it is this crazy, icky thing, but my ENT suggested it (before I had unsuccessful sinus surgery) and it has been a godsend. I told my mom about it too, and she SWEARS by it. She is immuno-suppressed and her transplant doctor said it is a great thing to help her stay healthy. Anyone I have ever told about it has thought it was weird, and then they try it and can't believe they didn't try it sooner. Glad you see the value in it!

I'm Freaking Out; I'm Freaking Out; I'm Freaking Out; I'M FREAKING OUT!!!!
You need to calm down. Surgery is NOT that far away.... if you choose to follow the rules, buy into your aftercare, and eat the RIGHT foods, and get off your butt and exercise, you CAN be successful. HIGHLY successful. I chose the surgery because I was tired of the ups and downs of losing weight. I was tired of the constant hunger, the constant battle... I did the right things... I DO the right things... and I am within spitting distance of my goal. Side effects of the Band are there. BUT if you maintain the proper fill level, if you eat correctly, those are minimal. You are not destined to be fat. You are changing your destiny right now.

Need advice!
WHY has your doctor suggested the bypass over the band? It is NOT always a money issue for them, a lot of doctors have legitimate reasons for pushing certain patients to Bypass over the band. Talk to your doctor and have them re-explain their point of view on the Bypass vs. the Band. Explain your concerns. Whatever decision you make, you want to go in 100% comfortable that you are making the right decision.

Amen on the pickles. Try them later on in the day....

Advice please!
Most individual plans exclude weight loss surgery, I am sorry to say.

My dilema
No point in going hungry. You probably just need a tiny tweak. It happens to everyone over time. Go get a tiny tweak to take away that hunger. USE the tool you paid for!

carbs? what is ok?
Constantly overeating stretches your pouch. Not carbs... White carbs are pretty nutritionally deficient so avoid them as much as possible, but NOTHING is off limits as long as it is in moderation (except soda depending on your doc)... Totally writing off a food from your life forever is asking for a MAJOR binge later on. I allow myself a little of whatever I want, and I never EVER feel deprived.

protein question
I don't count my protein and go up and down on a daily basis. I don't do the protein shakes because I don't believe in getting my calories from drinks. I get my protein from milk, dairy, beans, and meats that are in my meals. But I don't get the 'required' amount cause then all I'd be eating is protein. I like having a varied diet with fruits and veggies.
-
Is adding protein necessary?
I'll put myself out for the flogging too and say I agree with Jachut.

So dumb...
You'll learn... but even over a year out, I still think I can reason with my band. LOL. My band always wins...

restaurant card
I received one and have never tried to use it. I'm not one that likes to draw attention to myself. At Cracker Barrell, anyone can order off the children's menu, so I will do that. And anywhere else, I'll order something really small, or I am a BIG fan of doggy bags. Love getting three meals for the price of one.
-
Count calories or carbs?
Don't count either. If you are tight, just make HEALTHY food decisions and eat till you are satisfied. The joy of the band is if you work it and make good choices and are at good restriction, you don't need to count...

Question to benefit my wife
Amen to all of the above posters... talking to your wife about considering surgery is not something that will work most likely. Let her come to her own conclusions. lead by example and NEVER an 'I told you so." That just turns me off...

I am too tight but afraid to adjust
I've been there. Done that. I walked around like that for a few weeks and thought I could live on Soup. Then I got a bit tighter and was PBing more than I should. And then I woke up one night with some vomit in my mouth. It just got worse and worse until I had to get an emergency unfill. I got .3 ccs taken out of a 10 cc VG band. That SMALL amount made all of the difference in the world to me. It does not take much and will make you much more comfortable. Many people gain weight when they are too tight by getting calories from liquid stuff... You're better off getting a bit taken out. Also, too tight can mean a higher likelihood of a slip... Call your doc. I promise you are doing yourself NO favors by staying tight.

Do you see any subconscious changes in SO post-weight loss?
I had to post this, because a funny thing happened last night. To preface this, let me give you some history: I have been married for 8 years, and I have always considered our marriage GOOD. We've had ups and downs, but our love has ALWAYS been there and we are both best friends... Since I've lost weight, our relationship has gotten better, though. I have more confidence and tell it more like it is, and DH is much more attracted to me. So, he is 'nicer' when it comes to things. He subconsciously picks up more around the house without grumbling. He is just less of a grumbler... So, last night, we had a couple hours without our daughters and went out for dinner. I am an admitted foodie, so we went to a nice 'foodie' type place and I ordered some AMAZING chicken breast with a cherry sauce made with 3 types of Traverse City Cherries. It was to DIE for, and I only ate like 5 bites. The appetizer was an oriental coleslaw that was divine and I loved not even CONSIDERING eating it all. After we were done, DH did something he NEVER did... He asked for the dessert menu. We ordered a dessert to share, and I savored every bite, but didn't make a big deal of the ordering of dessert. After we left I 'called him on it' and said how he NEVER ordered dessert before. And after thinking about it, he honestly admitted he wouldn't have done it before, when I was heavy, cause he didn't want to help contribute to my weight problem. It is funny because now that I am thin, dessert is 'ok.' Kind of an oxymoron. LOL. He freely admitted that it was just a subconscious change in thought, the ordering of dessert, and I do believe him. Anybody else seen any humorous changes in your SO's perspective?

Openly Disgusting - Why Lose Weight?
Try to find the beauty in YOU TODAY. Sometimes fat 'covers up' that outer beauty, but YOU ARE are beautiful as you WILL BE after you lose weight. Try to find a way to realize your true value before your surgery. The path to weight loss will be hard and you NEVER want to tie your value to its success.

Is my band too tight?
Glad to hear you feel better. it sure doesn't take much to make a BIG difference, does it?!
