Hretan01 got a reaction from KristenLe in Scared
I know roughly 6 people who have been through this. All of them are happy and eating just fine, I hardly notice their eating habits at get togethers. They might eat slower, but I'd never notice it if I didn't know about their surgery. They fit right in with everybody else.
Try to think about the success rate! Be positive.
I did get one tip from a friend who had a gastric bypass. She said the ones who have all the troubles tend to be the ones who don't follow the doctors orders precisely. She says do everything as instructed. I fully intend too!

Hretan01 got a reaction from KristenLe in Getting ready for tomorrow liquid diet
I'm pre-surgery (with a date set 9/20) and I tracked what I was eating for a week just to see my typical amount of Protein in a day. I found that I was only taking in about 20g!
I added a morning Protein shake thinking I'd just start a habit a little early, and what do you know .. I lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks! I guess we all need to do what it takes to get it in, no matter how good (or awful) it might taste

Hretan01 got a reaction from sarcruze in Anyone else just starting this journey
I went to the information meeting a couple months ago, then the psych evaluation, then the nutritional thing by phone for 15 minutes. That all took a about 6 weeks. Then it all was submitted to BCBS of IL, that took a month for the letter of approval to get to the dr.
I was SO impatient and worried that I wouldn't get approved since I have nothing wrong with me as a result of being a little heavy. Approved though! I needed no supervised diet or anything. The downside is the surgery was scheduled for Sept. 20th and that feels like forever! I just want to get it done. In the meanwhile, I'm trying to drop some weight like the nutritionist advised.

Hretan01 reacted to Dub in Length of hospital stay?
Surgery was around 9:00am on a Tuesday and I was released Wednesday afternoon around 4:30pm.
Took 3 weeks off to allow the simultaneous umbilical hernia repair to heal.

Hretan01 reacted to Cape Cod Lady in Length of hospital stay?
It was supposed to have been two nights, but I stayed three nights because I could not drink enough to stay hydrated. I went home the morning of day three and I was fine. I took one week off from work and was fine. Good luck.

Hretan01 got a reaction from Armygalbonnie in How to quit sugar ?!?!?!?
You just need to quit eating sweets. That includes all "fake" sugar too. It only takes a week or two and then you're home free! Sugar is like a drug, the more you consume, the more you want it. It's highly addicting. I kicked that habit quite a while ago, along with caffeine and alcohol.

@@Hretan01 Good luck! I should be around the same time (hopefully)! I agree 100% on the septum surgery! I've had 2 nasal surgeries and they are horrible! Post-op visits included!

Here's the stats:
Weight at the info presentation, 223 lbs.
Now? I think less, but I don't know. I don't own a scale.
Testing is 9/6, surgery is 9/20.
This will be my 7th major surgery in my life, so I'm a pro. Not too worried at all.
Overall, I'm pretty healthy. The doctor can't find anything wrong with me. No diabetes, no high blood pressure, no sleep apnea, not even high cholesterol. I DO have a bad back though and losing weight will help with pain (car accident -I flew out back window when it flipped end over end). I'm approved through BCBSIL. All will be covered, as I have met my deductible already this year. I had a lumpectomy in Jan. and surgery on my septum in March (that was awful!!).
I feel good about doing this overall, I have no qualms about following instruction. I like Water and drink it all day anyway.
How did I get to 223? I'm over 40, have a sedentary job, plus a hysterectomy. Ugh. Over the last 6 years, the weight just slowly piled up. Right now, I'm excited and anxious to get this done!
