  1. I grill boneless chicken breast every week and enjoy it as a basic staple in my post op living.

I vary the flavor by using different rubs.

I agree that it can be dry if overcooked......and unsafe if undercooked. The key is to remove it from the grill at the correct internal temp. I've found that 160 degrees is this temp...as far as I'm concerned.

If cooked properly.....it's one of the most sleeve-friendly foods I've encountered.

Damn you. I want some. Do you deliver?

  2. For your weight, you should be drinking AT LEAST 10 8 ounce cups of Water a day, more if you're working out. Also many factors can contribute to this, are you sleeping enough? Are you starting your period this week? Are you going thru peri menopause or menopause? Are you stressed out? How much sodium are you consuming? Are you weighing yourself in the same place every time? Are you weighing yourself around the same time every day? Have you pooped? How often are you pooping? Have you measured yourself instead of just weighing in? Are you possibly gaining muscle?

All these are small little parts of a puzzle that make up our weight fluctuations. I'm sorry you're frustrated. Maybe hide the scale from yourself for a few days?

I'm sorry to hear about your father. My condolences.

  3. I am all done with classes! And met with the surgeon and have my psych appt scheduled. So my surgery is going to be oct 11. I have only 10 lbs left to get to the goal weight but I can't have surgery until my psych appt which is sept 14. But for me I did my physical the morning before orientation, my lab work on the break during orientation and stated for a support meeting Everything came back good. The following week I met with the surgeon early on the same day I had my nutrition and lifestyle class. I still have two phone appointments - 1:nut follow up. 2: NP checking in on me. , and psych apt. Then I have to call dr when within 5 lb of goal to see if he will move up surgery date. That's where I'm at.

Comgratulations!!! That's wonderful. I can't wait to get there. Good for you!

  4. So I am currently attending the nutrition and lifestyle classes at Kaiser- they are mandatory. They were each two hours long. We also had to do at least one support group that was a minimum of 1 hour. We also had orientation which was 3.5 hours. So u meet a few people exchange a few numbers and decide for yourself what other commitments you are making to support groups. They have lots of info of course. For me the classes are 2 hours away but I found another nurse from my hospital making the same drive as me. Really great. Then someone else. So four of us have made a little accountability group it's been great. Three of the four of us are nurses sitting thru nutrition classes also. But it helped when they showed us chewable high quality Vitamins. They did the work n research we benefited from. Just my opinion.

My surgery will hopefully be Oct 11th

That's really cool. I guess some of us take for granted how easy we have it. My class is about 7 minutes away from my office and starts at 6pm, after I get out of work. Are you done with your classes already?? We don't get to see the surgeon till we're done with our classes.

  5. I gave up coffee and I LOVE coffee but I love my kids more. My father died early this year from heart disease. Heart disease is a slow decline that robbed my father of a better life. He was basically home bound for almost a year with constant medication. Guess what was a contributing factor? Yep, obesity. I felt like I was at a fork in the road: on one side the life I was leading which would inevitably lead to a decline in my quality of life and a painful death or doing something to improve my health so that I could live better and spare my children the burden of my choices.

If you can't do it for yourself maybe you can do it for those who love and need you.

Obviously it doesn't have to be GS but surely you realize that your body especially every year you get older is suffering the effects of being morbidly obese? I was 341 in my late 30s and it was happening to me, enough that now at 41 I had to do it.

Sorry to read about your father's passing. My condolences.

  6. So for the past 2 days now I have been reading everyone's experiences and I applaud each and every one of you for having such discipline and to those struggling, my prayers are with each and every one of you.

I have been overweight my entire life. The past 10 years I have gained and gained so much that I am now just over 350 lbs this is the heaviest I have ever been. I have developed sever arthritis in my left knee and can start to feel my right knee going. Thankfully, I do not have high sugar or blood pressure no issues with cholesterol or anything like that. I do get winded VERY EASILY, stairs are my enemy. Walking in general is painful. Since age 5, I have suffered from Migraines and take a medication (when they strike) that contains caffeine.

I started following a few people on Instagram who had WLS and was amazed at the transformations. Over the past 10 years I have done my fair share of diets losing a few pounds only for it to come right back and then some. I was a member of a gym, I would go a few times a week. But then the arthritis kicked in hard core to where I fall down a lot. Dr after dr mentioned WLS. after finding out recently that my insurance covers it I got the support of my family and currently am set to meet the good Dr on September 9.

I joined this site a couple days ago to see the experiences, ask some questions and everyone has been very helpful! Thank you all!

I understand this surgery is not magic. It requires dedication, hard work and sacrifice.

I adore carbs, bread and Pasta is life!

Coke, ginger ale and soda in general I can not eat without. chocolate... Dear sweet love of my life chocolate. candy not so much cake.

I am willing to part with you all. I know I will miss you and maybe, just maybe we can have a stolen moment together in the future.

The deal breaker for me with this WLS is coffee. I could give a crap about tea and booze. But my beloved coffee I caN not do without. Wait, let me rephrase that. Without coffee , heads will roll. I am willing to give up smoking (cigarettes) I don't do drugs don't care about booze. And willing to leave behind my chocolate and carbs. I hate to say it but coffee may be the thing to stop me from doing this. Thanks for reading.

Trust me when I say that coffee is life. I probably have coffee streaming thru my veins as we speak. LOL Starbucks Rewards Member, yes, yes, yes! For several years running. At my desk at work I have a Keurig and a french press. That's just at work. At home I have a Large Keurig, a french press & a Bialetti Moka Pot. Do I love coffee? Yes. Am I addicted to it? Yes.

Now that being said, I also have hip pain, horrible horrible hip pain. Ankle and knee pain (my wonderful family gene which would likely require me to have knee surgery with in the next ten years as that is the age when my mothers & grandfathers knee surgery struggles started). Recently, my toes and feet have been hurting so bad, almost arthritis like, gout?, plantar fasciitis?, arthritis? (waiting to see the doc about this as it is very recent). I have monthly migraines that started 3 years ago, which last 2-5 days EVERY MONTH. My A1C is now 6.4%, I am Hispanic and although my parents don’t have diabetes, my uncles aunts and grandparents do. My father (140, 5'5", goes to the gym daily and eats high Protein low carb) has high blood pressure, high cholesterol and low sodium, so likely I will inherit some of that... Oh and I also have 5 kids, that I love with all my heart and soul. In October I'm becoming a grandmother for the first time.

So, I'm faced with this question, do I love coffee, coffee whom I've been in a relationship with for 30 years, 3 decades of my life, do I love coffee more than I love my life? More than my kids and more than my grand baby? No that is not an easy question to answer. I mean gun to my head, I would pick life, my kids, my grand baby...but after I have my last cup of course lol.

It's a hard decision to make but I have noticed that a lot of people still enjoy coffee post wls...and some lose their taste for it. Personally, I'd say go for WLS.

I Just finished my 12wk option classes with Kaiser in Fontana,Ca. August 2. All by labs and my visit to a support group is all done. Im just waiting for an appt. w/ therapist for mental evaluation, bariatric physician and surgeon. If I dont hear anything by August 30, I am to call Kaiser. Hopefully I get a call this week. The classes are great. So much necessary information to keep you prepared throughout the entire journey. Take lots of notes and get to know the ppl in your class. It helps to form a support group while taking the class. I drove about 1/2 hr to class and ended up meeting my classmates and learned they lived near me. Good luck!

The funny thing is that when I was leaving orientation, my next door neighbor was outside & apparently she's taking her last class this coming week! This will be awesome. We don't have much in common but we've talked a few times in the last 5 years that I've lived here (they've known my dad for 20 years). I'm really excited about all of this. I know it will go by fast. I just want to be on the other side of it already lol.

  8. First off I'm really sorry you are going thru this. I have to say that I am all about keeping your family together but not in this case. You need people around you that are going to be supportive. He is not supportive and this is going to be one hell of a ride. You can't have that type of negativity in your life. I was in an abusive relationship in my teens/early 20s. He said some similar stuff to me but worse. He also threw things at me and once choked me when I was 7 months pregnant with our second child. Once as a "joke" he downloaded the uncensored photo of Nicole Simpson's murder and saved it as a screen saver on our computer for the next time I logged in (this was the mid 90s). I finally got up the courage and left him. It was the best thing I could have done for my kids and myself. You can do it alone. I know you can. You are about to embark on a life changing journey and maybe his insecurity is coming out because he knows he's not good enough for you. You and your son are more important than anything else. Put yourself first for a change. Love yourself.

  9. Surgeons have sense of humors too, but that just my opinion. I would meet with him first, then make a decision. If you don't like him/her find someone you do like. Again, just my lowly, humble opinion.

Agree! Don't go by the tweet. Feel him out first. Then if you don't like him, try someone else.

  10. my doctor said it was fine for me, and we use unleavened bread, not a wafer. it is a small amount. I did keep a bottle of Water with me (well. I always do) in case my tummy wasn't happy, but it's never been a problem.

That's so awesome that your church uses unleavened bread! I have not heard of churches doing that before but it makes sense. I wonder why more churches don't do that?

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

probably because you can't just store it and pull a package out. :P someone has to bake it every week.

Probably! People don't like to commit to things like that now a days.

  11. Lol . Don't be. Just take it all in. I can't wait to hear about it!

Awesome! It was great. I am really excited to get started. I have to do an H. Pylori test, but I didn't bring the cup to do it today because they didn't give me instructions as to where to take the stool sample lol. I will have to do an EKG and I'm waiting to hear from the RN to see if I need to get any additional blood tests. I'm really, really excited to get started with the classes, etc. They are taking the first 25 people to complete all their blood work and EKG, stool sample, etc. So hopefully I get into the September class, if not I will be in the October class.

  13. My biggest issues with the courses isn't just the 6 month requirement, but my schedule as well. I work full time AND am a full time student. I can't guarantee I can set aside the time blocks required for the courses and can't miss work on a regular basis.

I've also done years of research and am in the nursing program. I live and breathe health and nutrition courses haha!

I'm still trying to bypass the courses with the medically assisted/observed diet programs I've already completed. Haven't received an okay, but also haven't been denied just yet ;)

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Ahhh now I understand. Yea, I don't see why you would have to take the classes. I hope you can figure out a way to "bypass" the classes.

  14. I have mild reflux but im not sure if its significant. I take nexium in two week intervals when I feel it coming on strong. usually about every 3- 4 months I take a two week dose and it goes away for a long while. I have actually heard that a revision or a resleeve can make the reflux worse but I suppose it depends on whats wrong in the first place. I am hoping to get a doctor that notices the first surgery wasnt done properly and I get resleeved. Yes it is a revision but kaiser didnt have to pay for it the first time and this second time would to repair. But if the doctor doesnt find anything wrong with me then there may be no hope for insurance to cover it.

emme.vee - I would live to take your info from the Santa Ana doctor as soon as I can figure out how to message you.. , Thanks so much

    I sent you a PM.

  15. I am Kaiser nor cal. It is very different here. I just had my orientation appt. my physical appt on the same day. Next week I have my nutrition class and lifestyle class. I also meet with my surgeon. I did my lab tests following my orientation class. They got my results called me and scheduled my psych appt for middle of sept. I am going to have surgery the end of sept beginning of October.

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

That's really awesome! Congrats! I don't understand why they don't follow the same procedures across the board. I have my orientation class today! WOOHOO! I had originally gone to the doctor for a physical and that's when I asked for the bariatric surgery referral. I have already done labs but those were for my physical. I guess I will find out today if i need to do more somewhere down the line. I think all of your lab work has to be done within six months of you getting the surgery so it's likely I will have to redo the lab work.

I am really hoping the process goes fast so that my surgery time off is around winter break. I wouldn't have to drive anyone around and work is usually slow around that time too so that would be helpful all around...but Murphy's Law, right? LOL

  16. I hear ya. The main thing that confirmed my decision for surgery is my knee pain.

On the bright side, you're on the right path to get where you want to be, and even though it will take time to get there, it will be so rewarding !

That's the one thing I'm worried about the most. My mommy had to have surgeries on her knees around her mid/late 40's. She's always been a big girl, but she's been consistently doing Water aerobics every single day for the last 8/9 years. She still has to use a walker or a cane, and she's only in her 60's. So, I want to get this weight thing under control now. I love my mom but I don't want to "walk a mile in her shoes".

Also I feel better this morning :).
