    Why am I gaining weight?!?!

For your weight, you should be drinking AT LEAST 10 8 ounce cups of Water a day, more if you're working out. Also many factors can contribute to this, are you sleeping enough? Are you starting your period this week? Are you going thru peri menopause or menopause? Are you stressed out? How much sodium are you consuming? Are you weighing yourself in the same place every time? Are you weighing yourself around the same time every day? Have you pooped? How often are you pooping? Have you measured yourself instead of just weighing in? Are you possibly gaining muscle? All these are small little parts of a puzzle that make up our weight fluctuations. I'm sorry you're frustrated. Maybe hide the scale from yourself for a few days? I'm sorry to hear about your father. My condolences. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    BIRTH CONTROL POST!

I would suggest the copper IUD. I had one for several years and had 0 issues. After my last baby, I had the Mirena for 6 months and I was all but suicidal by the time I got it taken out. Not to mention I had a heavy period for almost the entire time I had it in. Works for some people does terrifying things to others . Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Question from a beginner jogger

I would suggest looking up YouTube videos. There seems to be a video for just about anything. Good luck. It could also be how you are running that's causing the problem. Like your strides and how you're moving your arms. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. That's always what I hear people say in their heads and sometimes out loud when I discuss something that makes me uncomfortable. Truth be told: I have a hard time lying. "I cannot tell a lie!" So. While most pre-surgery folks are worried about important things like oh you know surgical complications, post surgical depression, stalls, etc...I'm worried about how to lie to people about this surgery. I am worried about work people mostly. And also do I have to lie? Lol. Background: I work for a fairly small company with maybe a total of 50 employees, so you know you see every single person practically every day. Not to mention we have office potlucks for almost every holiday, and I fill in at the receptionist desk often. There are maybe 8 people in the office that are overweight and two or three more that are severely overweight. I don't want everyone up in my business but I know they will notice my weight loss, not to mention doctors appointments, and of course missing work for surgery for a few weeks... I really don't care about telling my friends and family. I know many of them will have their opinions lol and I'm ok confronting them. BUT work people. I keep going back and forth with it, should I tell them, should I not tell them...it's driving me CRAZY! Lol. If you decided not to tell your coworkers, what was your reaction or what did you say when they asked about your weight loss or why you took time off? If you did decide to tell your coworkers, how did you tell them or how did you address the situation? What were their reactions and how did you deal with it? What did you respond to the negative comments like "you took the easy way out" or "you're not even big enough to have this surgery"? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  7. That's really cool. I guess some of us take for granted how easy we have it. My class is about 7 minutes away from my office and starts at 6pm, after I get out of work. Are you done with your classes already?? We don't get to see the surgeon till we're done with our classes.

Trust me when I say that coffee is life. I probably have coffee streaming thru my veins as we speak. LOL Starbucks Rewards Member, yes, yes, yes! For several years running. At my desk at work I have a Keurig and a french press. That's just at work. At home I have a Large Keurig, a french press & a Bialetti Moka Pot. Do I love coffee? Yes. Am I addicted to it? Yes. Now that being said, I also have hip pain, horrible horrible hip pain. Ankle and knee pain (my wonderful family gene which would likely require me to have knee surgery with in the next ten years as that is the age when my mothers & grandfathers knee surgery struggles started). Recently, my toes and feet have been hurting so bad, almost arthritis like, gout?, plantar fasciitis?, arthritis? (waiting to see the doc about this as it is very recent). I have monthly migraines that started 3 years ago, which last 2-5 days EVERY MONTH. My A1C is now 6.4%, I am Hispanic and although my parents don’t have diabetes, my uncles aunts and grandparents do. My father (140, 5'5", goes to the gym daily and eats high Protein low carb) has high blood pressure, high cholesterol and low sodium, so likely I will inherit some of that... Oh and I also have 5 kids, that I love with all my heart and soul. In October I'm becoming a grandmother for the first time. So, I'm faced with this question, do I love coffee, coffee whom I've been in a relationship with for 30 years, 3 decades of my life, do I love coffee more than I love my life? More than my kids and more than my grand baby? No that is not an easy question to answer. I mean gun to my head, I would pick life, my kids, my grand baby...but after I have my last cup of course lol. It's a hard decision to make but I have noticed that a lot of people still enjoy coffee post wls...and some lose their taste for it. Personally, I'd say go for WLS.

    Weight loss before surgery

  12. I had my physical this morning with my new doctor at Kaiser and we discussed my lab results as well as bariatric surgery. My BMI is 41.5 and I am pre-diabetic. She put in a request to have the nurse call me, and she did call me about an hour later and scheduled me for my options orientation meeting for August 11th. If I "agree" to having the surgery, then I will have to fill out paperwork that night and they will schedule me for the Options classes which start sometime in September. My doctor did say that this is in no way a guarantee that I will be approved for bariatric surgery, but to make sure I do everything they ask of me during the process because that makes it easier for me to have Kaiser approve my request. I'm excited to say the least to get this process started. My all time heaviest weight was 240, and sadly I've now surpassed that by 2lbs. I can't wait to get started with the classes! Here we go...

The funny thing is that when I was leaving orientation, my next door neighbor was outside & apparently she's taking her last class this coming week! This will be awesome. We don't have much in common but we've talked a few times in the last 5 years that I've lived here (they've known my dad for 20 years). I'm really excited about all of this. I know it will go by fast. I just want to be on the other side of it already lol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. First off I'm really sorry you are going thru this. I have to say that I am all about keeping your family together but not in this case. You need people around you that are going to be supportive. He is not supportive and this is going to be one hell of a ride. You can't have that type of negativity in your life. I was in an abusive relationship in my teens/early 20s. He said some similar stuff to me but worse. He also threw things at me and once choked me when I was 7 months pregnant with our second child. Once as a "joke" he downloaded the uncensored photo of Nicole Simpson's murder and saved it as a screen saver on our computer for the next time I logged in (this was the mid 90s). I finally got up the courage and left him. It was the best thing I could have done for my kids and myself. You can do it alone. I know you can. You are about to embark on a life changing journey and maybe his insecurity is coming out because he knows he's not good enough for you. You and your son are more important than anything else. Put yourself first for a change. Love yourself. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. Agree! Don't go by the tweet. Feel him out first. Then if you don't like him, try someone else. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Oh believe me as soon as they call me/email me to let me know the orders are in for my blood work I will be at Kaiser ASAP! It isn't very far from me. I've been checking kp.org all morning lol.

    Taking Communion

That's so awesome that your church uses unleavened bread! I have not heard of churches doing that before but it makes sense. I wonder why more churches don't do that? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App probably because you can't just store it and pull a package out. someone has to bake it every week. Probably! People don't like to commit to things like that now a days.

    Here we go...

Awesome! It was great. I am really excited to get started. I have to do an H. Pylori test, but I didn't bring the cup to do it today because they didn't give me instructions as to where to take the stool sample lol. I will have to do an EKG and I'm waiting to hear from the RN to see if I need to get any additional blood tests. I'm really, really excited to get started with the classes, etc. They are taking the first 25 people to complete all their blood work and EKG, stool sample, etc. So hopefully I get into the September class, if not I will be in the October class.

  21. Ahhh now I understand. Yea, I don't see why you would have to take the classes. I hope you can figure out a way to "bypass" the classes.
  22. I was curious about this too. I have a six year old that is overweight and my two adult kids are overweight but my 12&15 year olds are bean poles lol. So it will be a good thing for my six year old I think. She's definitely becoming more conscious of healthy vs. unhealthy foods and points it out when I tell her what's for dinner lol. 25. That's really awesome! Congrats! I don't understand why they don't follow the same procedures across the board. I have my orientation class today! WOOHOO! I had originally gone to the doctor for a physical and that's when I asked for the bariatric surgery referral. I have already done labs but those were for my physical. I guess I will find out today if i need to do more somewhere down the line. I think all of your lab work has to be done within six months of you getting the surgery so it's likely I will have to redo the lab work. I am really hoping the process goes fast so that my surgery time off is around winter break. I wouldn't have to drive anyone around and work is usually slow around that time too so that would be helpful all around...but Murphy's Law, right? LOL
