    Depressed?

It's completely normal. Your body and mind is going through such a rapid change that it will take a while for you to understand. I sat in my living room while my husband was at work and cried every second, called him and my mother and told them that my decision of surgery was the biggest mistake of my life. I couldn't eat, make myself drink anything and I couldn't understand how it would get any better. It did. Now, looking back, it was just a bump in the road that I had to get past and understand how to adjust my life to the new me. Knowing then what I went through, I would still do it again in a heartbeat. It will get better. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  3. I took topamax prior to surgery for migraines and still take it now. I had my surgery in 2011 and I am on 300mg daily. Never had weight loss from it or appetite suppression. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Breast reduction questions

I had a breast reduction prior to gastric bypass. Reduction was in 2002 and GB in 2011. I remember both like it was yesterday. My reduction wasn't bad, I was out shopping the next day. The only sucky part was sleeping, I'm not a back sleeper and it killed my back having to sleep in a recliner. Now, The pain with the GB was awful for me. As far as time off work, for the reduction I was out for roughly 6 weeks and with my GB, I was out for 12. I went from a DD to a C but after losing 175lbs, I'm not down to a B. Graves Disease

Does anyone have a thyroid issue since having surgery? I was diagnosed with Graves' disease about a year ago, I'm not saying it is related to the surgery but curious if anyone has any thyroid issues. Specifically Hyper. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I am 5 years out and had the mirena in for 4 years. I just had it removed on 7/4. I'm currently on my normal cycle now without the mirena so hopefully I'll have luck this month. Fingers crossed. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Hair loss

I had such thick hair before surgery that I would go have it thinned out at the salon. I'm 5 years out and to date, I still have super thin hair. My hair only grew back not even half as thick as it was. No matter what I bought, nioxin, horse and mane, Biotin, you name it, nothing helped. However, I still would rather have thinner hair than being unhappy and overweight. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. I agree 100% with James. After I came home, the pure smell and site of food made me sick. I stayed at my moms house for the first week and she begged me to take sips of Water and a sip of broth. I couldn't bring myself to do it. How could someone who loved food all of the sudden gag at the thought of it? Be prepared for a big change. I eventually sipped on a lot of broth and worked up to mashed broccoli and eggs. As far as liquids, mio and water, Protein shakes, Popsicles are a good choice. Trying to swallow pills in the first month was tough for me because I would foam at the mouth and throw it back up so my dr called me in liquid medicine. After roughly 2-3 months I was ok to try the normal medication and it was finally sitting well with me. Good luck to you Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Surgery in 2 days. Any advise?

My savior was my pillow (like an airplane pillow), I used it to prop behind my back, under my arm, on my side, you name it. The amount of discomfort is unreal. Also, your phone charger as they said above. You won't sleep much so your phone and the tv will be your best friend. I also was brought magazines to keep me busy in between. Good luck! 12. Hi everyone! I'll be 5 years out in November. The day of surgery I weighed 351 and I am maintaining at 141. I'm 5'8. I also stopped taking my Vitamins about a year ago but my lab works comes back perfect. I was giving myself B-12 injections but had to stop because my Vitamin B was too high. I do take calcium once in a while. I'm a vegetarian so getting my Protein in is a struggle. I'm a super picky vegetarian About a year ago I was diagnosed with Graves' disease but I don't think it has anything to do with the surgery. Other than that, this surgery was the best thing I ever did. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Migraines after surgery?

I'm almost 5 years out and thought that a major reason of my migraines was my weight. I had them since I was 11 and am 35 now. They didn't go away or get better with surgery. I take sumatriptan, topamax daily and when needed, butalbital. I live in Buffalo, are you just over the border from me? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
