The first few weeks after surgery can be exceptionally rough. It does get better but not overnight. It took me 6 months to reach my Happy State when all the problems seemed to melt away.
Back to basics - The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. Meeting these three daily requirements should be your main focus. Also try to walk 30 minutes per day or equivalent exercise. Exercise will accelerate your recovery process and ease the pain that you might have experienced after surgery.
Some individuals find it difficult to meet the daily requirements after surgery. This is because your stomach needs time to heal and this can take a couple weeks or more. But just keep trying and you should be able to get there.
Be willing to experiment. After surgery, my taste buds changed dramatically. Even Water changed. In the hospital it tasted excessively chlorinated and I could not drink it. So I experimented. sugar free popsicles became my best friend. Some individuals find hot or cold can help with fluids. For me, I found that I could tolerate flavored water. So I began using Crystal Light. I also found a new drink Bai which I liked cold. In the winter, I found that I tolerate Hot drinks such as piping hot cocoa. But you have to use the "No Sugar Added" variety. Also fine English teas were very good.

I had 3-4 Premier Protein or Pure Protein shakes a day for the two weeks leading up to surgery.
I had 2-3 Premier Protein shakes a day for the four weeks after surgery.
No regrets and I'll do it again if I need to accelerate weight loss.
There is entirely too much complaining among wls patients in general about the liquid diet. We chose to have surgery to help us address being morbidly obese. It takes effort on our part. If we can't do the liquid part of it.....then I'd submit we aren't ready to commit to the surgery and embrace the changes we'll each need to make.

I was on liquids for 4 weeks post op and it didn't kill me. Hang in there! Don't give in to temptation to start ignoring your surgeon's plan for you. That is a slippery slope you do not want to head down.

I'm on full liquids for 2 weeks post op. I drink Premier Protein shakes. Today I mixed some PB powder with a chocolate one in my blender. Amazing. I can have sugar free pudding that's been thinned down. Cream Soups that have been strained. Vitamin Water zero....

@@guy17 Try adding something with electrolytes. On your full liquid diet, are you allowed creamed Soups (strained)? Try drinking more of the Protein shakes too. I am pre-op but I only have 7 days of full liquids and then purees.
One thing to consider too - if you are on blood pressure meds - they may need to be adjusted. If you still get lightheaded - call your surgeon - they may allow you to add yogurt. Good luck!

Hey Everyone, so I had my surgery on Mon-July-25th & started a liquid diet on July 24th. I am still on a liquid diet and I am 8 days post op. I was wondering how long you were on a liquid diet after surgery? I am starting to get hungry (even though most of it is my mind playing tricks), but it would be nice to have some pureed food or even yogurt! Yesterday I started getting lightheaded and it's back again today I am drinking my liquids, having broth, Jello, & Premier Protein. Did any of you go through this?

I'm a big coffee drinker. I drink 5 or 6 cups daily easily. Giving up coffee is going to be very hard for me. Some people have comfort food. I find my comfort in coffee. A cup of coffee is magic in a cup. That first sip first thing in the morning of that freshly brewed pipping hot coffee is pure goodness. Yep I have a huge probelm on my hands.

Are you taking a PPI for stomach acid?

You ate too much or too fast or too closely to bedtime, most likely.
Or, you need a stronger a stronger PPI.
Foamies are the worst. I got them all the time for my first year.
Log what you've eaten when you foam. You'll find the pattern. Mine was rice, potatoes, any type of bread....

Pretty normal. Try smaller sips. I'm definitely able to drink a lot more now. But still not even close to what I did before. I'm 3 weeks out today.
