Stressful 3-4 months - BCBS Federal

I have faith that you will do well on your next weigh in. Relax and it will all be well. That's pretty exciting that you have an appointment on the 15th! I'm doing good. I gained about 1.5 pounds even at the end, but the weigh me at the end of the day. I've been retaining Water like crazy plus it's been 115 here (Las Vegas). Still playing the waiting game. It will be a week as of Wednesday since my packet was submitted and I'm a terribly impatient person. I've been tempted to call and make sure BCBS got the paperwork but I'm trying to behave

Stressful 3-4 months - BCBS Federal

Popping back in to let you know I had my visit this afternoon and my packet is submitted tomorrow. The coordinator was a little worried about how the sleep apnea was recorded in my records from other doctors. Spotty record keeping. But I figure BCBS has access to all claims submitted so it shouldn't be hard from them to track down. I can see the date of service and provider on the MyBlue website. My coordinator said to not worry to much that they usually don't have problems with BCBS. My provider is also considered a "Center of Excellence" by BCBS so maybe that helps. In the mean time, I am tentatively scheduled for August 30. Crossing fingers for a quick "yes" from the insurance. Otherwise, I get pushed back to September. How are thing going for everyone else?
  6. Provided insurance says yes within the next 14 days, I'm a go for August 30th.

    PCOS Strikes again!

I don't have a good answer for you but my story is a bit similar. I have PCOS and had a hysterectomy at age 34. I'm now 41. I didn't have children and didn't want them. I am content to be the fun aunt and mom to a pack of 3 small dogs. I also had endometriosis and fibroids. Debilitating cramps and ridiculous amounts of bleeding. I had been on everything from bc pills to provera to try to regulate my nightmarish periods. I was on the trial for Seasonale and NuvaRing. Those all worked temporarily, but I'd be right back to square one again. I had 4 d&c procedures in less than 2 years. My final straw was when I had been bleeding over 60 days and called the doctor who agreed to do my surgery. I found out after the surgery that I had a severe case of adenomyosis as well. No way to tell that until they do the surgery and do a biopsy. I do not regret my hysterectomy one bit. I wish someone would have done it for me sooner. I felt like I got some degree of my life back. I still have PCOS and one remaining ovary and am hoping VSG will help me better control some of those symptoms. I wish you the best of luck in your journey.
  8. A few years ago, I had a gyn refer me to a bariatric surgeon after I had a horrible ordeal with my hysterectomy. I was gaining weight weekly with no effort.. I was angry because the gyn referred me without checking any other problems first. I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, and less than two months after removal of one ovary... it could have been anything. I was heavy, but not anywhere near the lowest BMI with co-morbidities for my insurance plan. The bariatric office hounded me for a month after I told them no. That left a bad taste in my mouth. A friend started working at a bariatric office shortly after that. I had never seen her so happy. She loved going to work, loved her boss and co-workers and their methods for helping their patients. I've worked in the medical field, so that really impressed me. Fast forward to the realization a few months ago that it was time to re-think bariatrics, The practice she works at went to the top of my research list. Once I researched them on my own, I knew that doctor was the right choice.
  9. @@tgpez21, I am so sorry to hear of your problems. I had some terrible complications due to a surgical error, but I still don't regret the hysterectomy one bit. I too am hoping the sleeve surgery will help not only my weight, but some of the other PCOS symtpoms like the dark skin folds and insulin resistance. I am going to what should be one of my last appointments tomorrow and hoping for a date in mid-August. Good luck with your 8/21 appointment. Let's keep each other posted.
  10. I don't have the same insurance but I got my appointment datesneeded to meet my insurance's 3 month requirements booked at my first appointment. They also did my initial blood work, diet, insurance requirements, and a discussion with my doctor about the options at that appointment. My final appointment is Tuesday. You have every right to be excited about the first step in your journey. Best wishes to you. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T817A using Tapatalk

Pre- and Post-Op Shopping/Activities in LA and SD

Best wishes to you on your surgery. I love both cities and my first instinct was to tell you to try the garment district in LA for your clothing shopping. I love San Diego but I think your shopping needs would be better met in LA. I think Venice is a great suggestion. It's not a far stretch to th er West Hollywood area and there are many places to shop adjacent to there. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T817A using Tapatalk

Stressful 3-4 months - BCBS Federal

I have BCBS Fed as well and started with my first visit on 5/25. I am under 40 BMI (I'm at 36) but also have high blood pressure, sleep apnea with CPAP for a few years (doc said that's what's going to help convince the insurance to say yes), and PCOS. To my surprise, BCBS doesn't count the PCOS as a co-morbidity but it makes me insulin resistant as well as susceptible to so many other issues like heart problems, high cholesterol (which I also have), diabetes, skin problems, and weight issues. I've been keeping near my consultation weight within a pound or so but scared to death they will find any reason to deny me. I have a documented weight loss program with a doctor in 2014 but I've never been at a 40 BMI. Best of luck to you. I hope everything works out. Nice to talk to other people who are dealing with BCBS as well.
  18. Hi everyone. I've been lurking for quite some time and am now finally brave enough to post. Here's the basics. I'm 41, 5'7", and 236. I am under the BMW by a hair, but have sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and am insulin resistant. Losing weight is a battle and I seem to regain more than I lose. I've struggled with my weight for most of my adult life thanks to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). WLS was suggested to me at a very vulnerable time after a hysterectomy repair and presented to me as an alternative to checking my thyroid or hormones. It took me several years to even consider it as an option. I've developed many other problems with the PCOS and finally decided to look into the VSG. My husband fully supported my decision. I am choosing to only tell a limited amount of people at this time. Only one has tried to dissuade me. I've found a fantastic surgeon and this awesome forum. I had a consultation in mid May and have begun the steps needed to meet my insurance requirements. I had the cardiovascular work up 2 weeks ago and the EGD last week. I should have my last appointment at the end of this month. I'm very excited, a little scared, and so ready to have a body that matches my inner spirit. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T817A using Tapatalk

    My journey has begun!

Hi. I'm also older (41) but have similar stats. I was pretty active and athletic up until the last year or so due to a back injury. Good luck with your journey. WLS was suggested to me a few years ago and I wish I would have expected started sooner. I am still waiting to meet insurance requirements. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T817A using Tapatalk
