  1. I'm a month out. I was surprised that I was able to go to dinner with visiting friends at a little over a week and not be bothered by their plates and enjoy my egg (allowed on my plan in the first week). I was able to be social around food and drinking because it was purely about the company, not what I did or didn't eat. It was a surprise as I thought it was going to be a big deal (for me) pre-op and was relieved that it wasn't (post-op).

    Sleeve "reset"?

@@rolosmom7 I don't know if this was the case for you but I had the same problems in the first two weeks with any dairy (minus the diarrhea). Small amounts of dairy for pudding and cottage cheese was allowed on my plan. I was also allowed scrambled eggs and had no issues with those. Cottage cheese and the pudding just didn't sit well with me no matter how small the amount. I have no issues now at almost 4 weeks out, and I had no issues with dairy prior to surgery.

    When does this get better

I'm 3 weeks out and have to agree somewhere around day 5 or 6 I felt alot better. I still don't feel "normal". When I get tired, I get "omg I have to lay down RIGHT NOW" tired and sometimes it hits me at odd times. Hang in there and best wishes to you on your recovery. It absolutely gets better.

How have your taste buds changed?

I am 3 weeks out tomorrow (9/20). I loved sweet things before surgery. Now, even the no-sugar foods taste almost too sweet to me. I used to avoid spicy. I didn't care for the taste and I had stomach issues with it. Now I like some spicy things (not into love yet) and have no issues. I was a huge fan of anything tart. That too seems overly amplified but I like that.
  7. @ I don't discuss it in the waiting room either but inevitably they always asked after general and pleasant conversation "Are you post-op?" which I wasn't at the time. I keep most things to myself but I wasn't going to admonish them in that setting and I wasn't going to lie. My doctor's office has a wonderful environment and I think that just made people feel more open, as after all we are all there for the same thing.
  8. Add me to the list of people that hear/heard that, sometimes from other patients in the waiting room at my doc's office. I had a BMI of 35, but also had PCOS, high BP and cholesterol, and the dreaded sleep apnea. I am so very fortunate to be built in a pretty solid hour glass shape and have always been large chested, so I carried my weight all over. I had no issue with the way I looked, but definitely was crossing that line into diabetes and anyone who deals with sleep apnea knows that's no picnic. I chose to tell a small number of people. I've had a range from the usual negative comments to "I am excited for you because I know you're going to feel better". I have one friend who says she supports me but I am starting to see that may not be the case. Oh well. I don't let it bother me. I have to worry about me and do my thing. The stranger end of it is now everyone expects me to drop a huge amount of weight all at once. So the same people who thought I wasn't large enough for the surgery are now commenting about the weight not just flying off. I'm ony 2 weeks post op! LOL So summary, the only person you need to please or worry about is YOU.

    Random Thought/Question

My huge fear of vomiting (I absolutely hate doing it) and healthy fear of f'ing up have kept me on track. I tried refried Beans when allowed, which was right after post-op on my plan. Those just didn't go well. I didn't vomit but it was pain like the people who had the bread/sandwhich described.

So where are 30 somethings shopping?

I'm 41 (sorry) but dress younger and I'm another LulaRoe fan. I also like H&M, Old Navy, and the modcloth site.
  11. I'm 14 days out and beyond just being scared of overdoing it the first 2 days, I also have had no problems taking on the liquids.

    Waiting for weightloss

I only lost 6 pounds total on my 2 week preop diet. I didn't let it worry me. I am also a PCOS patient. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T817A using Tapatalk

cougar?..... Apparently, that's what i am now

48? You're not old enough to be a cougar yet. How about we go with beautiful mountain lioness? I'm 41 and my husband is 51 and we for sure aren't old yet. Congrats on your loss and sounds like you had a great time in Biloxi.

    Lost and confused

I was sleeved 8/30 and am like you@@mommaof5 as I have no problem with liquids or eating soft foods. I do measure my foods and follow my surgeon's guidelines. I don't know whether to be scared or feel fortunate that I haven't had issues.

    Pain

I was given liquid Lortab post-op but only needed one dose. I was sent home with a regular prescription but never needed it. I had basically no pain after the first hour. I think the nausea the first hour was the worst for me. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T817A using Tapatalk
  16. Hi all, I couldn't find anything on this via search but I'd like to know about your favorite food storage containers. I am looking for something that's dishwasher safe and last reasonably well. We have some but it seems like the lids warp so fast plus they are all SO BIG! Thanks very much for your recommendations.

    Your favorite food storage containers?

@@chycky @@russm Thank you both. I believe there's a pyrex outlet somewhere here in LV or at very least in California. I'll check those out too.

    2nd Week Food Options

My plan allows for scrambled eggs (with a small amount of cheese if desired), cottage cheese, the usual liquids from week one, and soups. I've been doing a variety of soups to give myself something different and usually save those as my dinner as I am doing my shakes as breakfast and lunch.

    Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

I have PCOS. I was diagnosed at 25 and had a hysterectomy at 34 due to extreme endometriosis and fibroids that had calcified. I had one ovary removed 2 years later, and still have the other one, which likes to be hateful at times. I am now 41 and was sleeved one week ago today. I shared many of the same symptoms as you. I definitely feel for you. It's so hard and the pain and bleeding sometimes just rule your life. I definitely don't miss passing the clots. That was awful. My longest period was almost 90 days. In addition to the symptoms you mentioned, I also had the following: Ovarian cysts Insulin Resistance High Blood Pressure Adenomyosis (found at hysterectomy) Extreme fatigue Contributed to high cholesterol hair loss at various points (but boy did it like to grow elsewhere) Dark skin on my inner thighs, around my neck, armpits, and sometimes discolored my face Total shut down of my ovaries at one point You would think with one remaining ovary, it would have lessened the non-bleeding issues. That was my hope, but no luck. I am hoping this surgery will help at very least keep my insulin resistance from turning into diabetes. I can live with a moustache and acne for that.

    What's next?

@@sherie1967 Hi. I also had BCBS Fed. Mine took about 8 days from submission to approval (there was a weekend in there). You can indeed call them or contact them via the FEP MyBlue Portal using secure messaging as well. I don't know if your team has discussed this but it was a total surprise to me at my final pre-op appointment that BCBS required me to stay in the hospital overnight. That may also be based on the type of facility your surgeon uses. I initally wasn't happy about that, but it turned out to be a good thing. As soon as my team got the approval, I was scheduled for my pre-op appointment which included a final nutrition class, blood tests, and a session with my surgeon. Best wishes to you and I hope you will get your approval very soon.
