Like the others, I am proud of you for not giving away your power.
Friends are expensive and family is messy.
What are they going to say when you lose the next 50 pounds?

I'm 5 weeks out and have lost some - enough to really notice. I took 7 days of time off work. Those that asked I said that I had hernia surgery. When people comment on my weight loss I say " low carb and high protein." It is always different depending on the person asking. Only a very few know that I had surgery.

You don't need to say anything other than "Thank you for noticing!". Your business is your business and your social worker's advice is spot on.

Although it may sound discouraging to have to wait so long before surgery. It really allows you to think about the life changing decision that your making, and helps you make the lifestyle changes needed to be successful after surgery.

So my surgeon told me they basically require you to wait so they can pick out the weak basically the people who can't handle the process and be successful in the pre op weight loss and also so the insurance company can save money. I agree it isn't right. However at first I looked at the six months as a burden but it gave me time to contemplate if I was ready to make such a major life change, and it gave me time to make the lifestyle change. I'm just thinking of people who have their surgery within a few weeks of their first consult. It must be really hard to go from eating whatever you want, smoking, drinking and whatever else you do, to being completely restricted for the rest of your life. I'm happy that I got these 6 months to slowly decrease my alcohol intake, stop smoking hookah, and change my eating habits. It would be so hard to stop cold turkey.

It depends on your insurance. My insurance company requires a 6 Month pre op program including a supervised diet, 6 month weigh ins, blood work, cardiac clearance, psych clearance, and other test. My consult which was considered my first visit was 01/28/16 and it looks like I'm on track to have my surgery mid August.

Jadane_dm got a reaction from Mysticpink74 in Being denied due to weight gain...
I'm on a 6 months pre op program with a supervised diet before I can be submitted to my insurance company for approval. I'm required to lose 5% of my total weight which equaled to about 17 lbs. My 2nd weigh in showed no change on the scale and my third weigh in showed an increase of 8lbs and my 3rd weigh in showed an increase of another 8lbs. So I was about half way in and instead of losing 17lbs I gained 16lbs. One of my doctors had a serious conversation with me basically questioning how bad I wanted surgery. That was a real turning point for me because there is nothing that I want more in life at this moment than surgery, At my 4th weigh in I saw a decrease of 3lbs, a small victory but a victory non the less. I knew it was possible for me to lose the weight I just had to really push myself. I did that by reducing my calorie intake, cutting out all fried foods, sugars, juices, soda, reducing my carb intake, and working out in the gym for about an hour 5 times a week. Today was my 5th weigh in and I was down 15lbs, and under my initial starting weight. I still have 15 lbs to lose to reach my goal pre op weight and I have 21 days to do it but I won't be defeated. What I realized is that I've let my weight stop me from doing so many things in life. I've missed ample opportunities and sold my self short so many times. I'll be damn if I let my weight stop me from this life changing opportunity. You can do it girl. I hope this helped and makes you feel like your not alone.

My hospital in PA which is St Lukes has a bariatric weight loss management program. They coordinate everything that has to do with my pre op requirements. The only time I had to see my primary physician was to get my referral letter which basically states that she supports my decision to get the surgery. If you've just started the process I would look to see if a hospital in your area offers a good accredited weight management program with bariatric surgery. You should call your insurance company and give them the name of your surgeon and they will tell you if they will cover the surgery performed by that Doctor.
