Worried about gas pains after surgery
I went to my required support group last Thursday and gas pains were discussed. My surgeon's nurse stated Gax X won't work because the gas is not in your bowels/intestines. She said the only thing that works is walking. After surgery, she stated I will be up walking every 2 hours. She said if I follow this protocol the pain will be less severe and gone within 24 hours. If you don't walk, it will last 48 hours. Years ago I had a female surgery where I had the gas put into my stomach. Nobody warned me about the gas bubbles. I got about 1/2 way home and thought I was having a heart attack. So glad I am pre-warned this time.

Post surgery: When you say you have a hard time getting it all in.
I've heard many people say that right after surgery, they have a hard time getting in their Protein drinks and Water. May I ask why? Are you full after a couples of sips? Is it painful? Are you nauseated? Preparing myself for reality.

So..... I went to Academy Sports to buy me an arm band to hold my iPhone, while working out. Totally embarrassed that my arm is too FAT!!! Thank God I'm on track with losing weight and my near future includes WLS!

I am OVER it today.
For the constipation (I didn't even think about that), is it recommended that you take a stool softener?

I am OVER it today.
I'm over my hips hurting when I sleep and even walk. I'm over having difficulty breathing because I'm too fat! I'm over hating the way I look in clothes. I'm over not going places and seeing friends because I'm too ashamed of how I look. I'm over not being able to do the physical activities I want to do because I'm too heavy. I'm over about being worried about my future because of my health.

Deal breaker.
This is how I mourned giving up my Diet Coke. I was an addict. As of today, I am 17 days free. I switched to unsweetened ice tea (don't care for it), and each few days I would decrease the amount I consumed by 1/2, until last Friday where I quit caffeine all together. Last week I was HORRIBLE to be around! Every single person in my life got on my last nerve! As of this past Monday, I've be without moodiness and/or a headache. It was really easier than I expected. I look back now and think, "WOW, my body was addicted to chemicals and caffeine and that's not good!" I feel better now and I'm definitely not crazing the refined sugar as much. Good luck with the trials and tribulations in which you are about to embark. You got this!

Beginning stages
You will definitely get great support here! I'm being very selective about who I tell that I'm having surgery. I don't want any negative Nellies ruining this for me.

Psych eval
That's a good question. I look forward to hearing some of the responses. My psych eval is scheduled for Sept 8th.

Horizon Nj health only lists 2 surgeons!
I'm having to drive 1.5 hours one way, to see a good surgeon. It is worth the time, gas and effort to feel comfortable with my decision regarding surgery. I don't know New Jersey but I'm assuming there is a bigger area you can travel to, for services.

Go to that person's profile page by clicking on their user name. At the lower end of their page, you will see where it says, "Add me as a friend.". Click on that, and there you go..... Hope this helps.

My Diet Coke has been laid to rest........
UPDATE: 2 weeks Diet Coke free!! I'm quite proud of myself. Also, 3 days caffeine free. Breaking myself from the DC was easier than planned. I had a stomach bug for almost a week and I had no desire for it. Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Caffeine post op?
I thought you couldn't have diet sodas ever again after surgery, because the carbonation will expand your stomach? Am I wrong about this?

how long does the process take?
My insurance doesn't have requirements but my Dr does. I have 3 nutrition appts that are 1 month apart. During that time, I have a psych eval, physical therapy evaluation and have to attend a support group. I started the process on 22 July. My last appt is 6 Oct. After that, my paperwork will be sent to my insurance company. Once the approval is received, I'll have a pre-op visit and surgery will be set. I suspect my surgery will be in November. So about 3 -4 months is my total.

Still stalled - and hungry. Where's the magic weight loss i was promised?
I met with the registered dietitian this last week. She said people are often told to eat waaaay too much Protein. Even though I have to focust on protein first, she said for a woman, my goal is 65g. Only 6'+ men should be eating 100g. Just a thought.

My Diet Coke has been laid to rest........
I've had a stomach bug the past 2 days so it's been easy not craving it. I'm so determined that I think I will win this. I do know I will still have the cravings though. Congrats on your success of getting rid of the bad stuff too.

Easy way to remember: Desserts is stressed spelled backwards. You either eat desserts when you're stressed or eating desserts stresses you.
