    My work here is done

I have a date booked for sleeve and I would appreciate it if any vets would be willing to PM me because I would appreciate advice as I go forward . I'm not arrogant enough to believe I know better... I don't know anything much. I do believe experience is the best teacher which you have and I don't. I do feel immense gratitude for your willingness to give time. Also I did a liquid diet for 7 months so I have no time for people who feel sorry for themselves over a few days. If you are bored then find activities for entertainment or do something for somebody else. (This morning on BBC radio 4 they were talking about girls in India being trafficked and a 4yo bleeding to death from a ruptured uterus in which they found a stick. Frankly that's the sort of thing that I think it's worth complaining about. It's all relative!) I'm coeliac and I don't have the choices that most people have and I simply cannot understand why people are wailing about restricted diets. Try no wheat, rye, oats barley, milk as an everyday thing. I met my surgeon today and he advised that there may be extra challenges because my guts are sensitive anyway. I've not read the bacon thing but it strikes me as insanity to even contemplate it a week after surgery, a month after! I also don't get the logic of eating in the same way as got me to where I am. Surely it's a good opportunity to curb the sweet /carb craving tooth? I'm just not sure what best choices I can make. I'm useless at cooking and I want to develop a new gourmet mentality. A healthy and nutrition based non-relationship attitude where it becomes a resource for wellbeing. So I'm understanding why you feel upset and at the same time I feel judged by the behaviours and choices of others and which I have not taken. Sent from my SM-A500FU using the BariatricPal App

    Fat Shaming Husband...so hurt

This man is acting abusively and I believe what you are dealing with is a personality disorder. Tuck yourself away and read this book and HIDE it from him for your safety : The Sociopath Next Door by Martha Stout. If it fits then I think you need to make a safety plan. Ignore his attacks which are nothing to do with anything about you and everything to do with his incapacity for empathy coupled with a lack of conscience. I'd guess he's got a 'blame and punish' mindset . Normal men have empathy and would support you in these exact circumstances. Hugs to you. Sent from my SM-A500FU using the BariatricPal App
  5. My surgeon told me that sleeve acts to remove part of the stomach. The stomach produces hormones including ghrelin which is a hunger hormone. So when the larger part of the stomach goes so too does the excess hunger. There's a reset of the 'weight barometer.' What's left is mental. I've not seen any discussion on experiences of childhood abuse and obesity here so far (please point me in the right direction if I've missed it.) I'm aware of a study that found half of all people seeking bariatric surgery suffered sexual abuse as children. I volunteer with a charity which supports victims of domestic abuse. Most people equate abuse to violence but it can be emotional, financial, physical or sexual. Emotional abuse leaves the biggest scars. So my guess is this: a child has less access to things like cigarettes, alcohol and drugs to handle the pain of an abusive childhood. So we use food to suppress emotions as a survival strategy. That's great because we survived! As adults it's no longer a successful strategy and we need to relearn how to handle stress in healthier and more self-compassionate ways. Undo the childhood conditioning. I'm trying to say that I think it's not simple, and there are two main areas to focus on. One is the practicalities around eating and drinking. Two is deprogramming childhood and taking full and active responsibility for our best mental welfare through learning to see new choices and loving/accepting ourselves exactly as we are. I used to use food to beat myself up or to escape painful feelings. I don't do that any more and my weight has stabilised. I'm generally at peace with the world. So that's how I know that I'm ready for surgery. Sent from my SM-A500FU using the BariatricPal App

    Meal Planning and Prepping

Christinamo. I don't understand. Do you cook all these in advance? Or is the meat raw for later cooking? And are they ok in the fridge for 5 or 7 days? And what is 'touch down taco dip?' And what about the bad breath/body odour that comes from garlic salt, how much/little are you using? Do you add any vegetables? Sent from my SM-A500FU using the BariatricPal App
  7. I thought about that and I'm not looking forward to it... but then I realised I spent about 6 months on the Cambridge diet many years ago, and more recently 7 months on Alizonne and then again shake that weight... So what's a few weeks again? Just hang onto the fact that it will not last forever. One day it will be in the past. And gratitude because this option wasn't available to our ancestors. Big hug to keep you going. Sent from my SM-A500FU using the BariatricPal App

    People and their big mouths

You're doing the best thing. Number one rule we have is to go 'No contact.' That includes no social media, birthday cards, Christmas etc. and act as if they never existed. That way they get no attention and most will eventually leave alone. I'm sorry it's happened. Just know that they target the people who have an abundance of what they don't have. So you'll be kind, caring, considerate, valued and appreciated by others... a lovely soul. That's why they target you to take you out. Giggling a bit in that I really feel a need to 'disinfect' my brain after dealing with the garbage that spews out of their mouths. It's kinda funny that by now I know that their targets are actually the kinds of people who make life beautiful! Decent people with sound values. Sent from my SM-A500FU using the BariatricPal App

    People and their big mouths

I'm wondering... I volunteer as a mentor with a charity which supports victims of domestic abuse....What you describe as 'haters' and the verbal attacks which are attempts to demean and belittle are typical of the abusive mindset. It could be that the put-downs and criticisms are red flags of Narcissists /Sociopaths. These people enjoy cruelty for the sake of their own entertainment and go about their lives blaming and punishing, lying and generally causing confusion and distress. If you are not familiar with these mental conditions you might like to hop over to Amazon and find a book called 'The Sociopath Next Door' by Martha Stout and read the 'look inside' from the title "Imagine." Maybe it's this sort of crazy you are dealing with? No point sacrificing brain circuits to even process that verbal diahorrea. Any which way I think you handled it perfectly and I'm really happy for you. Go you! Sent from my SM-A500FU using the BariatricPal App

  12. It doesn't sound like he's been totally honest and open with you. Maybe he was expecting his contact to be renewed? Whatever the circumstances I feel grateful that you are in a position to reconsider and that you can avoid long term unnecessary hassles. I'm sorry this must feel so frustrating! The great news is that you are already 5 days in and I hope you'll be able to continue. Keep us posted on your progress. Sent from my SM-A500FU using the BariatricPal App

  14. Hi Dana, I'm having mine on August 15th and happy to share the journey. My son said something simple and wise: we've recently had 'Brexit' in UK which was a national referendum held to decide whether to stay or leave the European Union. My son said "It's like the referendum: if you like how things are then you vote 'stay' as you are and if you don't like it then the vote is to 'exit' to change things. I like that perspective and it made me laugh! Sent from my SM-A500FU using the BariatricPal App

  18. I'd think again. I did Alizonne diet for 7 months and lost masses of weight. Got a crazy sweet tooth on all the aspartame / sweetneres. And up I went yet again. I believe that it's much healthier to work towards a new, well proportioned use of healthy foods and get all the enzymes etc that are missing from 'cardboard compounds.' They have their place but for me it's going to be short term. Sent from my SM-A500FU using the BariatricPal App
  19. I'm scheduled for surgery in August. Meanwhile I'm wondering what Protein drinks are available and from where? Is there anything which avoids aspartame (for obvious reasons) and sucralose (which causes me massive bloating.)? Sent from my SM-A500FU using the BariatricPal App
