I got myself a wig. It was great! I washed, deep conditioned, moisturized and sealed, and braided my own hair in 4 braids underneath so that if I wanted to I could wear it crimpy like I do sometimes. I ended up wearing my wig the whole time- and I woke up in recovery and it was still on- thankfully!! I braided it in two ponytails preop. I love it so much I'm still wearing it.

I too am in the wait for approval mode. The office manager in my doctor's office said that fast notice of approval is unusual and that a quick notification is generally a denial. I've decided to root for a longer wait so I can get an approval! No guarantees from the office manager but a new way to look at the process.

I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens.

July 19th is my nutrition appt
July 27th is the start of my liquid diet.
Aug 3 is my appt preop appt with my surgeon.
I'm so glad this is finally happening.
