  1. I'm having my surgery soon... going for the sleeve with Dr. LaMasters as my surgeon. Has anyone had his/her surgery performed by Dr. LaMasters? If so, how was your experience with her? Good/Neutral/Bad. Thanks! Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App

    Eating post-op

I had my surgery on 6/29/16, I'm feeling great, pain is manageable with the pains meds given and I could easily fool myself into thinking that I didn't have any surgery if it wasn't for the incisions. However, I'm having problems eating. I can easily drink Clear liquids at room temperature but the moment I switch to a Protein shake, yogurt, or applesauce I start having spasms or pain in my stomach. I take baby sips. In almost a week, I have only drank about 10 oz of Proteins shakes and 2-3 oz of yougurt plus all the clear liquids. Is this normal? How long before I can start handling anything other that clear liquids with more ease? I need more nourishment in my opinion, if not just more calories. Any feedback is appreciated. 2 weeks post and feeling weak.

Waiting before/after eating to drink doesn't really apply quite yet... at 2 weeks, it is all liquids/pureed so it doesn't make a difference. The rule is most useful when you're moving toward mushy foods... because you don't want the liquids to make you full and/or slide the food through your sleeve. 4. Yes, some people's taste change. It is not always permanent. If you don't like chicken now, it's fine. But give it a try again in a few months, if you want. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App
  5. I was able to sleep on my stomach 2 days post-op. On my side 3-4 days post-op. I can only sleep on my stomach. So everyone is different. You should try it when you're comfortable doing so. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App
  6. So what the long term data on weight loss success? What's sample size? What percentage of complications? Death rate? If insurance companies aren't paying for it yet... there must not be that many studies to back this up as a proven long term wls tool. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App
  7. Never heard of such a thing. How would the surgeon get the stomach out through the belly button? That would amazing. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App

    Alex Brecher can you help?

I just don't believe on passing the responsibility to someone else. As an individual, it is one's responsibility make better food choices and resist the impulse. It's not someone else's responsibility. I have seen plenty of commercials about healthy foods and getting healthy meals in the mail ready to eat or cook. What has that changed? From what I remember nobody put a gun to my head to make me eat the unhealthy stuff I did and get me to the point where I needed WLS surgery. I'm pretty sure so was the case for everybody else. For alcoholics, not all the PSA in the world is going to make them go to AA and kick the addiction to the curve. They have to hit bottom and have the awareness to realize they have a problem. So it is not on the TV but on the individual's behavior and mental state. Otherwise, there shouldn't be thin people. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App

I hate it when people say...

Yeah, but most of these people gain it back (and sometimes some more) eventually. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App

    Alex Brecher can you help?

I imagine that it is hard for people to see food given some of the food addictions people have. Not everyone is that way, I have no problem seeing those commercials. They don't entice me to eat. I want a healthier life and I made a commitment to myself to succeed. I don't think it's a bad idea. But should we stop having ads about alcohol because there are alcoholics out there? I have yet to see an ad for AA on TV. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App
  11. My surgeon's office recommends drinking liquids for 24 hrs after food gets stuck to help it move it along. If that doesn't help, they have to go fish it out. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App

    1400 calorie diet

My friend who is going through this process with a different surgeon had to that. However, my surgeon's program did not require this until 2 weeks before surgery. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App

Hard time losing the 15 pounds

My 1200 calories diet 2 weeks before surgery, I lost 10 lbs. So it is very doable for you to do 15lbs in 6 weeks. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App
  14. Why do you want a single incision? Laparoscopic surgery has better recovery times and length wise is about the same as a single incision. The scar from a single incision is harder to make it fade than 5 little incisions. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App

    Eating post-op

Quick update: I'm still struggling to consume all my liquids (64 oz). However, foodwise I'm able to handle pretty much anything and sizewise is not as little as I thought it would be. I'm in the pureed phase and I can easily handle 4 oz of food without being full. I know I'm pushing it because I'm supposed to eat only half of that but I won't be satisfied until the next meal. My surgeon said 2 bites and that's it. But there's not way I'm not going to be grassing throughout the day if I do that. Maybe this whole surgery was a failure. DENIAL BCBS OF MN

I have the same insurance (BCBS of MN), I was approved in less than 2 weeks. Before I started my process, I called the insurance and asked for a copy of their policy. So I knew I had to have 6 months of supervised diet/exercise by a physician along with all the other reqs. When you went to see the surgeon, didn't the office make you call your insurance so you woulf know what their reqs are before hand? Have they explained the reason for the denial? They should explain exactly why you were denied a 2nd time Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App

    Showering after surgery

I showered the day after surgery. If you don't keep the incisions clean and aired out or have an allergic reaction to the glue, you could develop dermatitis. I did a week post-op. Dermatitis is not a complication... it's just really annoying because it itches like crazy but it clears on it's own if you keep your incisions not covered and shower at least daily. 22. Had my sleeve 6/29 and in the first 6 days Iost 10lbs. I haven't lost an ounce since. What is going on? I'm not close to even a 1000 cals/day and I've been drinking 55-60 oz of liqids per day and 45-60 grams of protein/day. I don't know what to do. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App

I tried not to, Kazie15. It's kind of difficult not when you know you're not losing. I'm going to try not to weight myself until my 2 week visit to the surgeon's office. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using the BariatricPal App
