smartj84 got a reaction from pixystix0116 in Ok so how bad is this gonna hurt?
I had complications after surgery that resulted in a 5 night stay and a blood transfusion. I was in real pain I'd say an 8 or 9 on a pain scale. I still have pain and I'm 2 weeks out but mainly at my drain site. I now have developed gas under my right shoulder and sweet baby Jesus I thought I was having a heart attack.

smartj84 got a reaction from KristenLe in Tomorrow it happens....
Tomorrow (7/20) is the big day. I arrive at 5:30am surgery 7:30am and hopefully home the next day if all goes well. I will say these last two weeks of liquid diet have been challenging. Yes I cheated early on with a few baby dill pickles and the texture of a Protein Shake makes me gag but I'm through it. The next two weeks of liquids will present their own challenges but bring them on. I don't know if working 9 days straight with a packed schedule had just exhausted me or if I'm just not nervous yet. Now for the bottle of magnesium citrate for dinner :/. Here we go to the next exciting chapter.

Well I'm still in the hospital for night 3 now. I developed a hematoma after surgery and now my blood counts are too low fir me to be released. The drain site is really the only thing that is painful at this point.

Your post was incredibly brave and admitting and accepting you have a problem is the hardest thing to do. I deal with a food addiction but I also have a mother that is an alcoholic. She never wanted to do anything about her problem and to live through the devastation of it personally was one of the hardest things. I will say it is one heck of a beast so I wouldn't suggest going it alone. You need someone that has been there done that. That's kinda what this place is for us. I would suggest going to some type of group meeting having a sponsor is the best thing you can do.

smartj84 got a reaction from HeavenlyGirl101 in Need a Sleeve Buddy?
My thought is you've waited this long and done the hard work might as well bite the bullet and embrace your new life style . My date is 7/20 so on day 5 of my liquid diet. Literally cried over Jello last night lol. The closer it gets the more apprehensive I become but after a stern talking to and asking the question "Why the heck would I want to delay a happier healthier me" I drink another Protein shake and keep myself busy. Change is hard and we are chasing our lives in the biggest possible way. It helped me to remember the reasons I started this journey and keeps me chugging along. -

Thanks. That was an awesome reply. You are right! Hang in there with the pre-op diet. They moved my surgery to Aug 1 which was better for my work schedule. So I'm keeping the date!

I would consider scheduling an appointment. With all of the hormonal changes after WLS - it's good to have support. -
smartj84 reacted to NYSuperDuck in 30 Days After Surgery
For everyone wondering what to expect, this is what I've experienced 30 days out and where I am. Your results may, and probably will, vary. But at least this might give you at least some idea what to expect. I think my experience is not atypical.
High weight: 311
Surgery wt: 292
Current wt: 268
Lost 43 lbs
Target wt: 210
Virtually no pain after surgery, was back at work Monday after Wed procedure. I had promised my fiancé that I'd "dance" when I woke up from surgery and, sure enough, I was able to shuffle and wiggle enough when they stood me up to be able to make the claim that I did a dance in the recovery room. Weird pain in my stomach for 24 hours one day last week. I think I bruised it somehow, maybe by trying to wriggle around in the crawl space under the house fixing a leaky pipe.
I track everything obsessively. Walking an average of 8000 steps/day. Eating 925 cal/day average; 66 carbs/day; 104 protein/day.
Still on BP meds and PPI. Really want to get off the BP meds.
Eating mostly what I want, but what I usually want is Protein. That said, I've had small amounts of all sorts of things I like, from cornbread and grits to a small piece of birthday cake. The only problem I've had was a steak skewer, which went down like swallowing an old shoe. I figure this is a lifestyle change, not a diet, so I should enjoy the things I enjoy, except now in moderation and as part of a plan.
I also read this board daily. Great stuff and very helpful when I have questions. This community is an excellent resource and I'm glad I stumbled into it. Thanks to everyone for all the information and experience here.
