  1. I agree wholeheartedly that bed sufferers like myself need to get in touch with our head and emotions through therapy before going through surgery if we want this to last and by that I mean the weight loss. I speak first-hand about this as I have bed and did not know that, had gastric bypass surgery 14 years ago and within the first 10 years regained all of my weight. I have now been treated and am still in treatment because it never ends 4 bed and feel much more secure in handling my food and knowing why I eat then I ever have before. Get good therapy and then get the surgery. Good luck

  2. I can't answer your question but suggest you take in more Protein in the form of meat, ham, pork, beef, etc and this may make your experience more possible. You still have time and I wouldn't want my doctor to stop the surgery before completed. I'm on your same liver reduction 2week diet and it's no fun...you can do it if you've lived overweight for part of your life you are surely strong enough to see this through. I believe in you.

  3. My surgery is scheduled for June 1st and my liver shrinking diet starts this Thursday for two weeks until surgery. My surgery is in two stages with the first surgery being revision from rn.y and fixing hiatal hernia and second surgery on August 1st being the sleeve. Has anyone ever heard of two stages like this? I am going from gastric bypass revising to sleeve

  4. My surgery is June 1st and I start the cleansing diet this Thursday and I'm scared. Let's share the army of buddies okay . what kind of surgery are you having and what state are you in? I am having a reversal of gastric bypass that is 14 years old and not working and hiatal hernia for surgery number one on June 1st and the sleeve on August 1st surgery number 2. I live in the state of Washington just outside of Seattle and my doctor is Doctor billing through ivivva in Edmonds North Seattle.

  5. I'm scheduled for gastric bypass reversal surgery with a side order of removing a hiatal hernia on June 1 and a gastric sleeve on August 1st. I need one or more mentor(s) and/or a couple of newbies with surgery soon that can support me and I can support. I am older than most and have bad arthritis so it's hard for me to walk very far now but I know weight loss will help this some.

I live in WASHINGTON state and am very scared about this whole thing but I have tried so many diets and weight loss methods, probably just like all of us, and I am desperate.

Respond if you'd be able to support me and if not good luck to all of us.

  6. I am really scared too and my surgery date #1 of 2 major surgeries planned is June 1st. Dr. is doing a revision of a faulty rny I've had for 13 years and fixing a hiatal hernia it caused, and in #2 surgery doing a sleeve, possibly later a DS. I am scared if I don't have the surgery and I'm scared if I do!!

Anyone having surgery in May or June interested in being a surgery buddy with me? I'm nice, really!! My surgery date is June 1 2017 no the 07-18-2016 show on the profile as it took 3 appeals to get insurance to cover.

  7. I am scheduled to have first of two major surgeries ending in a gastric sleeve (first is to reverse rny and fix hiatal hernia) on June 1st and I am traveling soon after to Las Vegas from Seattle by plane (about June 14). Has anyone traveled by plane that soon after surgery and is it wise or will it be a mistake? What is anyone's experience?

  8. Hi! Congrats on starting the process. I think the best thing I have done in preparing for this surgery so far has been to learn what I can from research and testimonials of folks who have completed the surgery before me. Like you, I found bariatric pal early in the process and I have found just reading different topics to be useful. When I'm feeling low motivation, I look up sleeve before and after stories to motivate me to move forward towards this life change.
The biggest challenges I have had were 1) pre-op weight loss and 2) my insurance company. I initially started this process in August of last year. It was recommended that I lose 25 pounds prior to the surgery. I reviewed insurance requirements and consulted with my insurance company and did not see any barriers to disapproval. I was able to lose 15 pounds in the first two months but then it got rough (I need this surgery because I can lose weight but have trouble maintaining diets and weight loss over time). Then, my insurance company disapproved the surgery! They used an inaccurate measure of my height that was taken at a specialty care appointment and had me nearly two inches taller reducing my BMI below the 35 needed for approval. So, the other advice I would have would be to closely examine the insurance requirements and the data in your medical record, especially if you are near the borderline to meet the requirements.
Now, that I resubmitted and have been approved the diet is going much better because I have a set surgery date!
Best wishes to you and feel welcome to ask any questions as you go through this process.

  9. I am new to this board but as I am 64 and waiting to complete all paperwork to apply to BCBS FEP for insurance coverage of revision from failed rny to sleeve I hope I am welcome here? I am scared insurance won't cover and even if they would normally they may just wait out the clock until I turn 65 and go on medicare in late October. Anything anyone can tell me about the sleeve would help my scared nerves to hear.

  10. I am also new here but have read many posts for a while and this is my first posting. I am asking my insurance company to pay for a revision surgery due to weight regain and complications from a 10 year old gastric bypass. I have regained most of my weight loss after much hard work to lose the weight and I have an unhappy ulcer and a hiatal hernia. I had no care after surgery as my wls center closed down soon after my operation.

If I get a second chance I will feel very fortunate and take care of my eating and behavioral issues this time.
