What the f*ck is wrong with people today anyway? Why does everyone think their surgeons post op instructions are just a suggestion and not to prevent physical harm to their cut up stomach???

I went to my PCP for the first time after VSG and I had to explain it to him and the medications with the whys. My conclusion is that just about anyone outside of your Bariatric care team do not know enough to render any qualified opinion. Btw all my cholesterol Meds, both diabetes Meds and two out of three blood pressure medications along with my megadoses of Vitamin D have been eliminated. Joyous here.

I was the opposite. I live alone and I enjoyed my hospital stay. It was nice having people come in and care for me and get that attention. When I gained weight, I shut myself off and don't have a lot of friends. Now that I am thinner, that doesn't change the fact I still don't have anybody. I never really ate food emotionally but more out of boredom. I still haven't found a desire to eat.

Ya know I was asking myself your question and I had to stop myself. I kept asking ... what do I want to do if I lose my weight. I had to change it to... what am I going to do when I lose this weight.
My 17 year old will be 18 by that time and off to the Marines. My 16 year old will be a junior ( he's high functioning autistic). My 21 year old daughter just had a baby 3 months ago so she will have her hands full by next fall. I think I want to take my 16 year old to six flags or holiday world and ride every ride he wants to go on. Participate in the Water slides and big wave pool. I want to be able to stay as long as he wants and enjoy it. I also will be able to chase after my grandson and take him everywhere and do so many things that I couldn't do with my own children. I want to live!

First let me say that you are beautiful, and I thank you very much for sharing your story. I have no doubt that you will regain control and achieve your goal. I admire every single post op that has gone before me, and I hope you truly realize exactly what you have done for every pre op that came after you.
Without you and the many others like you, there would be no us. You are my hero, my teacher, and the basis of my faith that WLS could and has changed my life forever. I owe you everything, even if you never knew. You gave me courage and strength. I was thinking about you the day I went in for surgery, and you will be forever blazoned in my soul.
So whatever you need, a hand to hold, an ear to listen, a voice to remind you just how wonderful you truly are - you have it. And not just mine either, but every other successful weight loss patient out there.
Never forget how truly remarkable you are.

I'm gonna look into genpro. I have bought the organic low sodium broth - can't take it, at least right now. I haven't had a problem drinking fluids. I don't gulp but I drink a good amount at a time. That's one thing I was worried about. But it's all good.
I'm down 40 pounds from my high weight and lost about 17 pounds since last Thursday.

Just me, but I was allowed Campbell's heart healthy tomoato Soup made with Ultra skim milk. I didn't have any appetite so that felt good going down and had some flavor. At that point, I couldn't tolerate real cold stuff like ice beverages or popsickles very well. It was weird to swallow for quite a while but now I'm to the point where I don't think twice about drinking / swallowing more than a few sips time. I'm thinking that chugging anything is a thing of the past.
Things will get better and better as time goes on. Hang in there.

For most people weight loss isn't consistent on a daily or even weekly basis. Not just for the first few weeks, but throughout. That's why it is good to only weigh once a month or at your post-op doctor's visits, if the lack of consistency is going to stress you out. You can also use a site like Trend Weight to get the bigger picture.
A lot of people imagine their weight loss plotted on a graph will look like a smooth, straight line headed down to the right. Instead, imagine the outline of a staircase plotted onto the graph. And the staircase was designed and built by people who were drunk and couldn't see very well.
As far as expectations as to how much you will lose -- please, I beg you, put that idea aside. It seems like every day someone is on here, posting that they are freaked out because they aren't losing as much as they expected, and they always expect some insane amount of weight loss. Just get rid of the idea of expectations around weight loss and focus on your own expectations of how well you are going to comply with your post-op program. That's really the only thing you can control, and therefore the only thing that is worth feeling either good or bad about.
    Good luck!

@@Heidijenn I read your post an hour ago and have been trying to come up with something to say that doesn't sound mean or harsh, because I don't feel angry, just kind of sad. I'm no expert on WLS, and I'm only in my 6th post-op week, but I could never have done this if I didn't have a positive attitude about the procedure and the outcome.
In the endless classes and support group meetings my pathway required, I met so many people who could only focus on the food they wouldn't be able to eat. It blew my mind and continues to do so...we're all candidates for this surgery because we liked food more than we liked ourselves. It's hard to be completely honest with yourself, but I sat myself down and said "you are failing at life right now, sweetie, and someone is offering you a lifeline...are you going to refuse to grab that rope because eating 20 chicken wings at a sitting is more important that living a healthy, normal life?".
And THAT is the bottom line. Do chicken wings mean more than your well-being? If the answer is yes, then walk away and go to Buffalo Wild Wings and chow down. But think about this: are there people in your world who you care about? Your partner, your siblings, your children, whoever it is that are a meaningful part of your world...can you stand in front of THEM and say "I love chicken wings more than I love you"? My weight and my inability to fully participate in my family's life has already altered the lives of my husband and children, so when I was offered this opportunity, I DID put on my big girl panties, stopped loving chicken wings more than life, and I had the damned surgery.
My surgeon offered me AND my entire family a gift, but I was the only one who could accept it on behalf of all of us. So I decided that my family, my friends, my future grandchildren and I are more important that 20 chicken wings at a sitting. What are you going to choose?
I wish you much peace and hope you're able to come to a point where the idea of WLS isn't terrifying, but is empowering instead. Please stay around and let us know how this all goes for you.
