    Soft food stage problem

@@JamieLogical what you describe is just what I feel so perhaps it is overeating. I'm trying to eat 2 ounces per meal, sometimes it's a struggle to finish. I have eaten puréed chicken, and I have eaten Greek yogurt, separately before together. Not sure if the combo mattered. If that is overeating then forgot about it, it's miserable. 2. At what point did eating for post op requirements become natural? I spend a great deal of time thinking about how much I drink, Protein, etc. For those of you who are several months post op, when does it become more normal? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    When is it normal?

@@CourtneyLouise, thanks. I have no regrets and feel great but this does take a lot of my mental energy! I'm excited about having this feel normal so that I can keep it in the background so to speak and put the rest of my life in the forefront. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Liquids to soft foods

My biggest challenge (I'm in the soft foods stage for two more weeks) is that I can eat such tiny amounts that I don't know if I can get up to 60g Protein for a while. The nut really advised against protein shakes during this stage but if I don't, I won't get near enough. But yes, my stomach makes all kinds of noises now and as soon as my upper chest/throat starts to hurt I'm finished. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Anyone in education getting sleeved?

At my two week visit my surgeon said I've healed so well that he amended the lifting restrictions to 25 lbs until one month and then no restrictions. Everyone heals differently, so be sure to listen to your body. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. I also haven't had any problem with liquid (water). I do notice that Protein shakes can be a chore to finish, so I do feel fuller with them.
  8. I was sleeved July 12, and in the first week I lost 9 lbs but have only lost 1.2 lbs in the past several days. Is it normal for weight loss to fluctuate so much? I'm following my post op plan to a tee. It looks like my two week weight loss will be about 12 pounds but with 9 lbs one week and only 3 the next. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Hello all! I was sleeved on July 12. The first two days were rough but now I'm feeling better than I expected to and am ready to start thinking ahead into the solids phase/week 5 (for my plan, anyway). I'm a teacher and students come back about a week after I am able to start solids. I know I need to plan meals, etc. Is there any app that will help me track Protein consumption? Also, how many of you bought a food scale? I'm thinking I should get one. What do typical lunches look like once you're able to eat "normally?"
  10. My surgeon had me on full liquids once I went home from the hospital. I'm getting in my daily Protein, walking, and drinking about 70 oz Water. I feel way better than I expected I would (I actually returned to work today). My concern is that I drink all day long and I seldom feel full of liquid-- or at least, I don't recognize that I feel full. I did have a sharp pain in my right shoulder today after I drank what seemed like a lot, but otherwise I can sip all day and not be uncomfortable. Should this be a concern? Do I need to drink less? It certainly doesn't feel like my stomach is smaller (but weight is falling off). Thanks for any input!

    Anyone in education getting sleeved?

I'm a week out from being sleeved and the first three days I had so much fatigue. My surgeon wants me to do as much as I can as soon as I can, and as per his orders I did start 20-30 minute walks the day after surgery. By day 5 my energy level was fine and although I am really missing textures and flavors, I'm on day 8 and I feel really good. My abdomen is still a little swollen but I've lost so much that it is actually smaller than it was. I'm at a week long seminar for PD and it has been really good for me to interact with others and to stop focusing so much on my physical healing. I also worked until I went into labor with two of my kids, so I think for me, getting my mind off my discomfort is very important in the healing process. I had the sleeve. My surgeon didn't think I needed RNY and felt like I would have fewer longterm issues with the sleeve (nutrient absorption).

@@dke, your stats are about like mine. I was about 204ish before my preop, and was 199 day of surgery. I weighed myself on Saturday of last week and was 190, four days after surgery. Haven't weighed myself since then but I can tell I'm smaller. I don't think loose skin will be too bad but flabby arms are going to be a struggle!

    Anyone in education getting sleeved?

Wanted to check in -- I was sleeved July 12 and I decided to attend a seminar today. It's been exactly one week. I feel way, way better than I expected. The first two days were very rough, and I had neuropathy in both arms that is just now going away-- but the pain was very tolerable (I only needed pain meds the first night). I was very sick the first morning in the hospital (threw up everything... nurse gave me something in my IV to fight being nauseated, and after that was ok). I started walking the day I went home, but could only walk about 15 minutes. One week later I can walk just fine and have had no issues tolerating liquids. Everyone is different but I definitely overestimated the amount of recovery time I would need. I will be at work Aug 1 for in-service stuff. Kids come Aug 17.
  15. Thank you! I didn't know they would pass through... makes since as they don't have to be digested.

I talked to my (very fit, never been overweight) husband about my worries and he says I'm being silly. He pointed out that before surgery if I ate until full I would feel sick, whereas if I ate smaller amounts I felt better. He said that he never really eats until he's full and he's super healthy... So stomach capacity doesn't seem to be something to feel scared about. He also sent me a link to a documentary about people who eat VLC diets all the time and they were really pretty healthy (they were all elderly people). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I think I'm in the buyer's remorse stage. I keep wondering if I've shortened my lifespan. What if I would have lived to 78 and been somewhat healthy.... I was motivated to get this because of my inability to maintain healthy weight, but also high BP and pre diabetic... Both parents have heart disease and are obese but are in their 70s. Someone please tell me I've invested wisely! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Those of you who have done this, what do you take for Vitamin supplements? Do you take a multi, or different ones at different times of day? I am taking a multi but think it might be better to take different supplements morning and evening in order to enhance absorption. Thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    BMI 31-32

Hi all. I was sleeved 2 days ago. My BMI is a little higher than some of you. My highest weight was 207 (I'm 5'3) and my day of surgery I weighed 199. Yesterday was hard- felt a little like I'd been hit by a truck, very sore, but mostly my back and shoulders. I feel so much better today. I don't feel 100%, but definitely better than I'd expected. My biggest complaint is that I am tired. For those of you who haven't done it yet-- the pain for me was very tolerable. I took pain meds at midnight the night of surgery and haven't need anything since then. The biggest incision site is tender but otherwise nothing to worry about. One thing I did not expect and haven't read about was soreness in my arms, from elbow to wrist. When I came home my arms were very red and hot to touch. They are no longer red and warm, but they ache. Anyway, post-op I feel pretty good and know that I will feel better each passing day! Dr. wants to me walk 30 min/day and start using weights in 6 weeks.
  21. I'm being sleeved on the 12th. I've met with the nutritionist and have a very good breakdown of day-by-day what to drink/eat. However, I've been looking on line and I see that my surgeon's post-diet is different than many I've seen posted. For instance, by my surgeon's guidelines, I'm 2 weeks of liquid only (including Protein shakes), 1 week of pureed, 1 week of soft, then solids. Some post-diets I've been reading say no solids until week 6. I'm planning to follow my suregon's guidelines but I'm worried about a leak- is it safer to put off solids as long as possible? The nutritionist feels like it's important to start eating "real" food asap in order to help me learn new habits early in the post-surgery phase, where I will see the most results. What was your post-op diet like? Did any of you start solids in week 5?

    Anyone in education getting sleeved?

I'm planning to go back on Aug 1- but the students don't arrive until Aug 17. I think I will be fine to sit through in-services-- we have first aid, reporting abuse/neglect, grade requirements etc etc. It's a lot of sitting for that week, which is rest Yes, you can definitely shut your door and work on something if your tired/need a break... my AP (who is also a really good friend) and she told me to hide out in her office if I need to powernap . Very exciting school year ahead for both of us, I think! Are you telling your co-workers? I've told my work BFF and my AP. They are both supportive. What are you planning to do for lunches for the first few months? I'm not sure what I'll be eating and tolerating, so I'm not certain what to bring. I do have a mini-frig in case I need to keep some Protein shakes around.

    Anyone in education getting sleeved?

Hi Almost! I'm also a teacher and I am being sleeved next Tuesday. I go back to work August 1 for in-services, but if I need to take that week off, I'm fine with that. I think if you have to take off at the beginning, that's preferable to taking time mid-year or even after the winter holidays imo. Teachers come in late often, and sometimes schools don't have numbers for enrollment on the first day so coming in a little late will be minimally disruptive. Good luck! I'm self pay also and things have gone really quickly.

Met with surgeon today, so happy after the consult. She says I am a great candidate, very low risk, etc. She said we're looking at 4-6 weeks until surgery. Tomorrow I have bloodwork and barium swallow; Tuesday I have psych eval. After that we have to work out payment and then we'll schedule!
