Every doctors office is different. I was only on liquid diet for 7 days, pureed for the next 7, then soft foods for two weeks, and then general diet (which is where I'm at now 8 weeks out). Her doctor may be more like mine lol

I had to cross the finish line for my son, he was the person who believed in this procedure and for me getting back to healthy. In honor of our journey that we started together and to be here for my 2 year old grandson. I'm going through a lot, I mean more than I could ever imagine. I don't believe in giving up and quitting, I have to be the best version of myself as his mother and person who is going to be here to tell his son about his father's love for him.
Perseverance is my super strength for the moment. The positivity of this site keeps me motivated and forward moving, especially as a secret sleever

Sorry for the cancellations that keep coming up. Keeping my positive attitude because I know you all will get your surgeries in the proper time. It just wasn't in your plans to delay and I understand that.
I was originally scheduled for my surgery on 1/31/20, my son was shot on 1/21/20 and died on 1/22/20. He was going to be with me during my surgery and be my support and care system. I don't want to get into that, I'm sharing to say that sometimes we have to go with the flow and things aren't always in our control. Stay the course and if you are dedicated to your wls, it is going to happen for you. We will be right here cheering you on.

One thing that's true for me is the 2-3 week stall. I'm not going to get my nerves in a bundle, 15 days out and I'm 12 pounds down, I'll take it. I have my ideas for this wls journey, I'm going to release control and go with the flow.

Thanks to all of the well wishers! I'm back home now, so it's Day 1 Post - Op. Got a chance to walk around twice before I left and progressed better than I expected so far.
So to give others an idea of the experience -- those who are still waiting -- I want to share the following:
My surgery was around 8:30 am -- I was the first of the day. Even though I had taken a few things with me, I didn't use any of it.
I had to wash my belly with this towel with special solution on it and I was given a shot to prevent blood clots. I was rolled in the OR where it was very bright and cold as a refrigerator! They gave me lanocane? before they gave me the profocol to put me to sleep.
My surgery took a little longer because the surgeon had to remove old scar tissue from when I had my gallbladder removed and apparently I was a bleeder, but they didn't have to give me a transfusion.
In addition to the RNY, the surgeon repaired the hiatal hernia.
The hardest part after surgery was no drinking of anything for 24 hours. They wouldn't let me use this dry mouth spray that I had. They did give me liquid Tylenol for the pain and injection shots to combat nausea.
My legs were also wrapped with this device to promote circulation and no blood clots. I didn't give a lot of sleep last night because I was uncomfortable in that bed -- not made for tall people for sure.
I walked around the corridor twice yesterday and my sister patted my back to make sure the gas broke up.
They made 8 incisions into me because of the issues I described above, and the worst pain is my lower right abdomen. It feels like muscle pain mostly.
I do have some pain in my shoulders (the surgeon told me to expect that) and so now I'm trying to get all of the liquids in. I feel like I want to clug a lug, but! I know better than to do that. So now it's on to Day 1 post op liquids, practicing my breath and walking around the apartment,

Oh, I hope you're feeling better! Did the doctor say why this happened? The only time I almost fainted was after my first surgery in Mexico. I waited until I was a week out before flying back to Japan (spent some time in San Diego which was great), but that was a long day - train to LA, then flight to Korea then flight to Japan, then a train from the airport back home. I drank Water and Protein Drinks all along the way (and had miso Soup at the airport), but when I got off the train my whole body was shaking and felt very strongly that I was about to pass out. I'm guessing I was suffering from hypoglycemia. Luckily there was a small kiosk right near where I got off so I got a little box of fruit juice and sat down and drank that and it really helped and I was able to get home without a problem. Anyway, I hope you're okay now!

You may find that your weight is in a holding pattern and then boom! down 3-5 pounds. It can be more like steps than a constant declining slope. I find it interesting that I can see the weight loss happening (in my face, my body, my clothes), but the scale doesn't reflect that on a day to day basis. Just hang in there, it's happening!

It amazes me how many people I know say the same thing when I mention WLS. All these people that express the WLS is a scam "opinion" also have NEVER had to deal with a weight issue, I take their opinions with a grain of salt of course.
Loosing weight is so easy I am told by the misinformed and obnoxious, just eat less and move more!
WOW if loosing weight is so easy, so simple I ask in return, then why is obesity considered a growing health issue?
I usually get no coherent response...

Sandra congratulations on making it the 100’s! I’ve got about 20 pounds to go to get there. I haven’t seen that number at the beginning of my weight in way too long.
Also, sending positive vibes to you and your son. That sucks to hear about the job loss. We’re in uncertain times right now and it is very scary.

I have Two views about this ..... In 2009 i had the band done. At first my (now ex) husband, two sons, DIL and my friend Paula (who had it done the year before), she was also a co worker. It wasn't until about 6 months and people started noticing the WL that i started to open up about it. Of course, i got all the "look"... OHHH you took the easy way out. I did get judged by most everyone. I had people watching me eat... saying, should you be eating that... why aren't you losing weight as fast as others.... You are losing too much.... blah blah blah.
So this time around... only my husband (remarried Sept. one month PO). Lately i find i have been getting a lot of.... Wow you really have lost a lot of weight.... This weekend i was so proud of my husband..... We had a crawfish boil and one of our neighbors commented on my weight...... He chimed right up and said,.... she changed her eating habits.... Bam... Love him.
    So much better not telling.....

I'm revisiting this thread and I'm just getting my mental ready for surgery on the 31st.
I relate to so many responses on this thread and I'm quoting you, because I may be slightly ashamed as well. I do like to have control over my narrative. The ppl are going to talk about me anyways, so I may as well live to my fullest potential.
Also, I find that some of my friends and family and colleagues are very negative in regards to wls. This is unfortunate for them. I will not be the poster child to reform them either, sorry. This is a very personal long overdue decision for me. I do have a support system, thankfully. Its very small and select.

    Hi everyone,
I'm fairly new on here and not sure if this is the right section to post in, but here it goes.
I had gastric sleeve surgery on the 27th of February in 2018. I've since lost around 35 kilos (desperately trying to lose more/ feeling a bit stuck... but that's a whole other rant [emoji39]).
I've been really beyond happy about my weight loss, I'm feeling more confident in myself than I've ever been before (a miracle, really), I obviously still have low moments and my self esteem isn't that high, but it's just good to finally feel okay in my body.
Before my surgery, I was always picked on by my family (especially my paternal grandmother and grandfather), I know it came from genuine "worry", but the way it was managed just destroyed whatever esteem I had at the time. I mean in the way of always suggesting new diets (without knowing what I was currently doing), harsh or sly comments and what not. One of the worse ones was when they met my current partner, and my granny took me aside and said "he's absolutely gorgeous, now all you have to do is lose some weight to keep him!". That one cut me pretty deep.
Due to the shame around the weight, I didn't tell anyone about my surgery, not even my partner. My family doesn't know that I went to hospital, and as far as my work, friends, partner or anyone else knows, I had gallbladder/gallstone surgery. I still feel so ashamed that I lied, especially to my partner. He doesn't judge and I've talked about it with him based around a "what if it was something else" concept (yes, I'm very much a "what if" person [emoji28][emoji39]), and as much as I adore him I just don't feel ready to tell him (he has gotten drunk before and shared things that I've told him, this is the one topic I don't want him sharing). Don't get me wrong, he is such a beautiful man and I love him to bits, I'm just scared that my secret won't stay a secret or that it will accidentally slip as it won't be a big thing for him.
Long story short, no one knows I've had gastric sleeve surgery. I'm sure that people expect it (my mum drunkenly accused me of having it done), though I am using everything I have to keep it a secret.
I was wondering if there was anyone else out there who has done the same thing or kept their surgery a secret, too.
Thanks for reading my rant and making this a safe space [emoji173]
    Laura

I am down 11lbs since surgery. I didnt drop any for 2 days but then I dropped 1.5lbs. Patience. If your walking or exercising every day, your gaining muscle which weighs more than fat. All the Protein your taking in is burning the fat when your exercising. Start taking measurements of your abs, thighs, upper arms, measure that way and you will see more progress. I, too am guilty of the "love/hate"relationship with the scale. My doctor said not to weigh everyday but i am guilty of that too. Just keep it all in perspective!

Well said. When I had my first surgery and was finally eating regular foods I focused on carbs and protein and let the fat macros fall where they lay (probably around 40-50g per day, but I did eat a lot of cheese ). The other day I was going through all the books I had related to eating, weight loss, Keto, and bariatric surgery and came across the Pound of Cure book by Dr. Weiner (who has great videos on YouTube as well). I know I read some of it, but I'll definitely have to reread it for when I'm past all the post-op stages and into eating regular meals. The problem for me in Japan is that there is a very limited variety of vegetables here, many of which are hard for me to eat due to some gastrointestinal issues I have unrelated to my gastric surgeries, and anything not local tends to be very pricey, so it limits my options. Honestly, when I go to other countries (US, Canada, Europe), I feel like crying when I go to the supermarket and see all the amazing fruits and vegetables available that I just can't get in Japan, or in a limited way because they are so expensive ($3 a peach anyone? $2 for 3 spears of asparagus? $5 for 1/3pint of blueberries?). However, I'm sure I'll be able to figure something out.
Note: for everyone who thinks Japanese food is healthy, most of it is carbs+protein, with very few vegetables. If you think of a bento box, half the box is rice, the other 40% tends to be meat or fish, and the remaining 10% is vegetables, usually pickled. A traditional Breakfast may have miso Soup with tofu (healthy, lots of protein), rice, and fish. Or rice porridge. Many people just eat toast, or maybe eggs. lunch and/or dinner might be something like curry rice, or fried chicken and rice, or ramen, or whatever. Few to no veggies. When I ask my students how many vegetables they eat per day, the vast majority of them don't eat any, although to be fair, they are university students (this is usually part of a larger discussion of what it means to be healthy - just because people are thin, doesn't mean they are healthy, and vice versa). People doing keto, or who are vegetarian (or worse, vegan, since so many things are made with fish stock) really struggle when travelling here to find enough healthy foods for them to eat.

I lost 28 pounds pre-op most of that like 24 pounds was before the 14 day liquid diet which I only made it about 9 days with full liquids.
I feared that liquid diet like the devil. So I started eating less about 3 months prior to surgery. I started having Protein Shakes for breakfast and lunch (ensure max protein) and I would only eat dinner. Now when I got hungry at times during the day I would have a banana or cottage cheese. Once you put your mind to it, you can do it! Good luck on your journey!

Peanut Butter is sooooo high in fat and calories, that most of us reserve it (as well as other nuts, seeds, and butters) until maintenance. It is great for adding calories to slow down weight loss as you reach goal, but until you get there, I would stay clear of it.

Hi all... I’m one week post op today and 12lbs down. I am on full liquids and experience some of the bloating if I let too much time pass between meals. I was told today that I should be doing to Protein Shakes. 1st an hour after waking then snack mid morning, then lunch ( Protein Shake or soup) then snack and then dinner (soup or Protein shake). I have to have a total of 64oz of fluids. So that’s sipping Water all day. This would alleviate the bloating and fatigue. I wasn’t getting in enough calories. Lastly, walking, walking, walking... Hope this helps...

Thanks for all of the well wishes. Had my surgery this morning and all is well and recovering. Been up and walking already. Moderate pain due to incisions and hernia repair, but I feel blessed. Thanks again and I’m sorry for all the other March cancellations. I got in under the wire let me tell you. Hospital now on lockdown.
