  1. Do I have the WORLD'S FASTEST APPROVAL or what? Paperwork was submitted yesterday, and I received my approval today before 11am.  You're saying WHAT!? :D

I go in for my pre-op paperwork on Monday, May 1st.  Surgery is May 15th.

    Sooo excited!

  2. Yay! I am no longer morbidly obese, just obese! It feels great to get out of the "morbid" category. ;-)

  3. I think it has finally sunk in, (after 5 years) to my co-workers that no I don't want to partake in your pastry gluttony every other morning. I don't want to join in your Starbucks morning (or afternoon) break runs to nearby store.  That while you eat your ice creams I am fine with a cup of jello /banana or my cashews/almonds/or chickpeas/raisins. That all I see (and I've told them) is a pile a sugar.  That while they "lumber" down the hallway, I walk down the hallway, rubbing my stomach up and down, making sure it's still gone.  Maybe I'm being harsh, but there is no better example of what I could have been had I not gotten the lap band.  It's become almost awkward, because there are 3 of us and at one time we were all on the heavy side. Now there are just 2 and one of us is in size 12 pants not size 20. !

  4. My 2-month surgiversary is today! Down over 50 pounds since I started the pre-op diet in January, down 2 clothing sizes and one shoe size (back to my normal size 8). Completely revamped my closets with "new" clothes from storage. Stalled at the moment but hoping to see the scale move soon!

  7. 4/4 - My Surgeon put me on the pureed/soft food stage. I am to introduce these foods slowly into my diet. He gave me a strict schedule that I am to follow. I am just excited that I can cut back on the shakes lol. He told me to start taking my vitamins on Sunday (4/9). They have to be chewable and to make sure I get the biotin because he knows how I am about my hair lol. I tried pickle juice last night. Bad idea. It gave me heart burn and made me burp a lot.

4/5 - Made two egg whites for breakfast with some WW cheese. I was able to get 10 tiny bites in before I got full. My heart hurts (they were delicious). I have all 6 of my meals prepped for today. I have a 6 oz pouch of tuna with light mayo and some cheese. (I am lactose intolerant but cheese is delicious). I will be alternating between the two for today.

  8. I've noticed a difference between whey protein and plant protein....whey makes you extremely thirsty (dry mouth) afterwards. Plant doesn't. Well, at least it's been this of my experiences. I think I'll stick to plant protein for good.

  9. Updates: Sorry I have not posted any updates.

3/26 - Surgery went excellent. I was up and down, out of the bed. Enough energy to laugh and smile and walk around. Everything was awesome. I had a better reaction then everyone in my recovery room. I found out the hard way it was because the good ass drugs they were shooting in my IV.

3/27 - Released from recovery at 7am. I had an excellent recovery. They gave my mom instructions for me and she has been up my ass and around my corner in regards to it. I get released and we go to Home Depot and Target. Her saying is the Surgeon said you have to walk and I am going to make you walk lol. Love you mom. First night home was miserable, could not get comfortable.

3/28 - Took a chair into my shower and sat under the warm running water. BEST IDEA EVER! I do that 3 times a day. Helps soothe the aching. Had my first dumping. Surgeon prescribed pain kills with a cruncher to be mixed and taken like a shot. I have been sipping slowly throughout the day. I tried to take the shot and immediately got sick and puked. I called and told them what happened.

I have a breathing test tube thing and a thermometer to check my temperature 4 times a day to ensure I am not getting a fever or infection.

3/29 - Slept way better and got more comfortable. Will try my protein shakes today. So far I am getting down 5 sips of water every 30 minutes. I have to set reminders because I cannot tell if I am thirsty. When I drink, I get up and walk around after.

So far, just missing those lovely IV drugs. I was on cloud 92 and I miss that feeling but it could be worst.

  10. Been doing a lot of reading and scaled back on the number of posts mainly because I've been doing a lot of homework about plant based diets and WLS. I'm am not sold on high protein low carb diets. Never have been and it won't be my lifestyle. With that said, I do believe I need to have a good amount of protein for certain factors in the diet and exercise. I was impressed to find a post from a few years back of a person doing plant based and losing weight just as well as any other. She doesn't have to take all the vitamins because she gets them from food. Her blood work showed it....now, that is inspiring.

  12. So I just had a small snack and I immediately reached for my water.  And stopped midway.....have to wait 30 mins before drinking.  Or is that only with actual meals?  guess I need to get clarification.

  13. Back from Germany and have lost almost 7 pounds on that trip (10 days). I didn't weigh or measure anything, but after a month of post-op foods I knew how much an appropriate portion size would be. Still, it was hard to find a variety of food that I could eat, and I mostly relied on eggs, cheese, and sliced meats for my protein/nutrition, plus protein shakes (I brought my own powder to mix) and vitamins. Also started eating a variety of different veggies, all with no problems. Caved in and ate some fruit sometimes (raspberries, blueberries) and fruit-based yogurts (despite the sugar) because they looked so delicious and unlike anything we can get in Japan. Also learned that I can eat just about anything (tried some small sausages, and a couple bites of bread, among other things) without a problem, so I'll always have to vigilant about what I eat since my only restriction will be the size of my stomach and nothing else.

  14. Just did about 30 squats at my desk.  I can't lift weights due to injuries, but I can squat and dance (to a limit).  So while the bosses are out of the country, I'm jamming out and squatting.  LOL

  15. As of today my BMI is in the 'Overweight' category instead of 'Obese', at 29.9.  Woohoo!

  16. Had a nut appt yesterday. Same old thing, keep practicing on the sipping, no drinking for at least 30 mins after meals, and two bites of protein-then one bite of veggies. I've already went to decaf (the withdrawal was awful) and I replaced my breakfast with a protein shake with green bombs. (Bombs are a frozen mixture of kale, spinach, ginger root, green apples, and cucumbers blended together with some water and poured in to ice cube trays or silicone molds). Great way to get veggies in. My nut says I can continue that with my protein post op too. Yay!

So I've got one more nut appt left (April 19th) then I'm DONE! They'll submit my papers to insurance and then I wait. I'm suspecting my surgery to be in May instead of April now. So we'll see. Until then, I wait. Hopefully the month goes by fast. 😊

  17. The scale finally moved down a little today - that makes 40 pounds lost! It's hard to believe that number even though I know it's true.

  19. Major headache! And I'm not even on the pre-op diet yet.  My husband decided to buy me all decaffeinated coffees...SMH.  I'm thinking, "ok...I'll just use them/get used to them"  Trying to not give in to regular since I've already got this darn headache.  I might as well as play it out now, cause I don't want to do it again during the pre-op.

  20. Went to a little cousin's bday party and ate terribly. Nothing healthy to eat. Now I know for sure I'll need to always have food on hand that I should and could eat.

  21. Finally! My stall has broken after 11 days with no movement on the scale.

  23. The 3-week stall is real...no weight loss over the past 10 days! :(

I'm not sure - probably (even though my Japanese is terrible). There's not much in terms of full-time work back home for teachers like me (all short-term (4 month) contracts). As long as I can keep getting long-term contracts with lots of vacation time, then I'll probably stay.

Actually, Japan is like that too. I just read an article that says Japanese are the worst for taking any kind of paid vacation - less than 50% of what they are owed (which is about 2 weeks). Even school teachers don't get much holiday time, since they are often involved with sports and other club activities throughout the summer, plus PD. Luckily, I work at a private university, so I don't have to worry about things like that.

Well, as you know, I was feeling very energetic after surgery and I probably could have gone back to work within the first week. However, I get 4 months (2+2) vacation a year (I'm a university lecturer) so I'm used to having this kind of time off. Usually I spend it travelling, so this time I've been planning for an upcoming trip to Europe this summer (for work of course, but I can stay as long as I like).
