I search on Pinterest and Yummly mostly for Instant Pot recipes. Also this site: 365daysofcrockpot.com
(They have Instant Pot and Slow Cooker recipes!)

I can't stand the smell of fried foods anymore! It's like all that I can smell is the grease!

I started out somewhat close to your size (243 at 5'5") and I'm 25.
I've been losing weight slower than most people and so far, I think that's why I'm mostly ok in the loose skin department.
I have a little bit at the top of my breasts but that's it. Of course, I have about 40 more pounds to lose though.

I'm very open about my surgery, so I think that's why people I know feel comfortable commenting about my weight loss/how hard that I'm working out.
Getting comments isn't always a great thing though. It can border on condescending after a while.

I had 2 insurances at the time of starting my program. My surgeon didn't accept the first one, so I couldn't even get a consultation until they verified that my second insurance covered the surgery.

I developed early (I got my period at 8 and I had to get a breast reduction at 13), so I was always slightly bigger than kids my age. I started getting debilitating back pain at 10 because of my large breasts and I was no longer active.
The weight started piling on fast. By age 11, I tipped the scale at 200 pounds. By 12, it seemed like I put on 20 pounds over night and I was diagnosed with diabetes.
I had further weight issues and health problems as I got older. I finally got my bypass last December, a month before my 25th birthday.

Pain and nausea are my current reality every day. I can't imagine the surgery making it worse.
How is your gastroparesis after surgery? Any improvement?
I'm 7 months out now and I'm fine. I probably throw up a few times a month.

I actually didn't find out that I had Gastroparesis until I was already in my 6 month program to get gastric bypass.
But I was told that it would help. Although my first 2 months were a bit rough with the nausea and vomiting.

I had a 6 month program and even though my a1c improved (I was following my diet and exercising), I put on weight fast!
I had gained 20 pounds out of nowhere 4 months in! My thyroid was checked during month 1, so they hadn't thought to check it again. (Not until I was close to the end and we figured out I have an underactive thyroid).
I got sick after month 4 and I ended up dropping 17 of the 20 pounds that I gained. But I still put on a few more pounds after the loss because I hadn't started my thyroid meds yet.
I came in at 239 and I was up to 246 at my last appointment before submission. (I wasn't 100% sure that they were going to submit me.
They were considering making me stay in the program longer to drop the weight).
They ended up submitting me anyway since my diabetic numbers improved drastically, they found that more important.
I got approved and then I lost 3 more pounds on my 2 week liver reduction diet.
Sorry this got so long. I guess my point is that it first depends on your surgeon/bariatric team and and how they feel about it. Also if there are certain other health issues going on.
Good luck!

This seems to be the case for a lot of people.
I'm 6 months out from RNY and I'm still on one oral medication (it was 2 pre-op) and insulin. My insulin dosage is about half of what it was before surgery.

I've lost 50 pounds in a little over 5 months myself. I know that if I compare that to other people, it seems low.
But I was told that I'd be considered a slower loser comparatively because I had a lower BMI, so I tried my best to prepare myself for that.
I don't get too focused on the numbers because I'm following my team's plan and I know the weight will continue to come off even though I'll still have stalls.
The amount of pounds I've lost in this short amount of time is the most that I've ever lost and I'm so proud of myself! I'm also over 50% of the way to my goal and that's what's most important to me!
So, as long as you're doing what you're supposed to do (sticking to your plan) then you'll be fine. Stalls are inevitable, but so is the fact that they pass.

I weigh everything so that it's easier to track my Protein, carbs, calories, etc. I still listen to my stomach regardless.
Just because there's 2 oz. of meat on my plate doesn't mean that it's a guarantee that I'll eat all of it. Or if I think I can eat more, I will weigh out another ounce to make sure that I'm not going over the 3 oz. meat limit that my NUT has set for me.

I have found some I like through a company called "Nothing Naughty". You should have seen the girls at work when a box arrived with that name on it. They all had supercilious looks on their faces lol. I assured them it wasn't "one of those" deliveries. We all had a good laugh at the name.
I really like these, especially the nice crunch of the almonds.

I got my surgery 4 months ago. I've been diabetic for 12 years now.
Before surgery, I was on insulin and two oral medications.
I'm still on insulin and one medication. My numbers are a lot better though. My latest A1c was 7.3 from 14.1 last May.

I was required to do a 6 month program period before I was eligible for surgery. I got my A1c done at the beginning of that 6 months and it was high: 14.1! I was told it had to be below 10 by the end of my 6 months and it was.

I'm trying HFLC (Atkins/ Keto) to see what happens. I'm only 10 weeks out so maybe I shouldn't be doing that, but I was already pretty much doing it anyway, except for the high fats. I just want to make sure that I stay in ketosis and stay away from non-vegetable carbs because starchy foods have always been hard for me to eat in moderation. Today I had 660 calories/ 11 net carbs/ 32 grams of fat/ 73 grams of Protein. I've been eating up to 1,100 calories most days, though. I lost 2.5 pounds in week one. I weigh again in the morning. Fingers crossed!
What kinds of things are you eating to hit those numbers?

If I drank my whole bottle of Protein Water, that would give me 40g of protein. But my NUT last time I saw her told me to only try drinking half a bottle each day. She really wants me to try getting in most of my protein through food.< br>
I eat yogurt every morning for Breakfast, but that’s it. I don't know what to eat with it. I'm going to ask my NUT for suggestions when I see her next week.
I don't like the texture of cottage cheese.< br>
I usually eat 3 times a day (every 4 hours) but I think I can stretch that out to 4 for now.joycey100 reacted to this -
How do you know when you're able to eat more?
I'm almost 3 months out from my RNY and my NUT wants me to be able to eat about 3 oz. of meat and 1/2 cup of veggies at my meals.
I don't experience hunger and I have unfortunately over eaten a few times trying to force myself to meet my Protein goal.
I can usually only get in 1-2 oz. of meat (shredded chicken and those salmon packets seem to go down easiest and I can get more of those foods in) at a time and I usually don't even have room for veggies.
I get in about 60g of protein (20g from protein Water, sometimes I need more from my water though on days where I'm sick or I just can't eat a lot).
But I know I need to eat more because my calories are low. I barely crack 400 calories most days.

It is confusing. I've read that caloric intake for women less than 1200/daily over an extended period of time will wreck your metabolism. Last thing I want is to be 5 years out and gain weight from merely looking at a piece of chocolate, lol. I tested at a very high metabolism and my doc had me at 1200-1400 calories by the 3 months out. I'm pretty active and started out with a lower bmi (with co-morbidities). I was losing only about 1 pound per week, but sure enough when my calories/carbs bumped up, I noticed my weight loss bumped up to 3 pounds per week. Crazy and seems counterintuitive. This also happened around the time that I added strength training to my normal cardio, do who knows. I imagine it there are huge variances between individuals. The down side to a fast metabolism is that I'm hungry.... all . the. time. I can foresee getting back into serious trouble if I'm not extremely careful about food quality and watching the macros. So I track everything. It's a pain, but less so the longer I do it now that typical meals and recipes have already been entered.
How do you get in that many calories??

Two of the common problems after gastric bypass surgery are strictures and ulcers.
Strictures can occur once you are about 4 to 8 weeks out from surgery. A stricture is a narrowing of the new stomach outlet where it surgically attached to the small bowel. Symptoms include difficulty with eating solid foods, developing increased saliva or mucous, reflux symptoms, and in severe cases, difficulty with liquids. So if you are having a hard time getting liquids down, this may be the cause.
I'm going to call my surgeon tomorrow.
I've even thrown up my Vitamins twice today.

I do not think it was because of the spiciness. I have dumped several times and it generally is due to the fact that I ate too much.
Be aware of the pre-triggers. These pre-triggers can be sneezing, hiccups, becoming congested very quickly, or even the taste of food suddenly changing. So the pre-triggers warn me when I am at my limit. So I stop. Another bite I will be in full dumping mode.
I took maybe two or four small bites (I chewed well) bites and stopped. The spiciness hit me and I didn't want to continue eating anymore.
I have thrown up too many times from eating too fast or eating to fullness.
Yesterday's episode felt different from those other times though.
I'm still feeling the heartburn type pain and it’s even difficult to get liquids down.
I do not like how I feel after eating spicy food period, so I still want to avoid it.

I like the Inspire brand from Bariatric Eating. They have lots of flavors. My favorite one is the vanilla Bean.
