    Heartburn Post-Op?

I'm going to call my surgeon tomorrow. I've even thrown up my Vitamins twice today.

    Heartburn Post-Op?

I took maybe two or four small bites (I chewed well) bites and stopped. The spiciness hit me and I didn't want to continue eating anymore. I have thrown up too many times from eating too fast or eating to fullness. Yesterday's episode felt different from those other times though. I'm still feeling the heartburn type pain and it’s even difficult to get liquids down. I do not like how I feel after eating spicy food period, so I still want to avoid it.

    Fast Food Questions

I'm only 2 months out so I don't know if this will change or not but I find eating out at restaurants stressful. From having to measure and ask how things are prepared, I just hate it.

    Heartburn Post-Op?

Can you get dumping after spicy food? What I ate both times wasn't greasy or fatty, just spicy. I did throw up the first time I felt like this. But with this episode, I wasn't nauseous and I didn't feel like throwing up.

    Questions about conflicting information

I think there's so much conflicting information because we all hear different things from our surgeons, nutritionists, etc. We're also individuals and that counts for a lot of variations. 1. I was told never any NSAIDS mainly because they can cause ulcers. I'm a bypass patient, but I've heard some sleevers say that they can take NSAIDS occasionally with an acid reducer. I don't know if that's true or not because I didn't get the sleeve done. 2. One of the many reasons I was encouraged to get bypass instead of the sleeve is because of my GERD. I'm almost 3 months out and so far, so good. 3. This varies highly! I was a carb addict before surgery and I was really just starting to phase bread, Pasta, rice, potatoes, etc. out of my life during the pre-op diet phase. I still don't trust myself though. I don't think I can personally eat those kinds of things in moderation, so for me and my team, they’re off limits. Also, I've heard that for some those types of foods can expand in the stomach and cause discomfort. 4. I've heard the statistics about addiction transfer. I've also run across posts (all across the Internet) from various people talking about how they got addicted to alcohol after surgery so I think there's at least some truth there. 5. Not everyone experiences dumping. Or some do early out, but then they're able to eat or drink anything once they're further out. I don't eat sugar except in dairy, so I don't know if sugar will make me dump. But greasy foods (even things that are lower in fat) don't agree with me at all. Overall, there are a few things that seem universal (eat Protein first, drink your fluids, take your Vitamins, etc.) But this journey is so individual and you never know where you'll end up on the spectrum until you have the surgery.

    800-1,000 Calories

I'm having trouble getting my calories up and I'm curious about how people are meeting this calorie range. So can anyone show me a sample menu of how you get in this many calories a day, please? Or the staple foods that you include in your diet to help you reach this amount of calories?

    800-1,000 Calories

My NUT would definitely not sign off on juice for me unfortunately.

    800-1,000 Calories

I eat Greek yogurt every morning for breakfast for the protein content, but it’s only 100 calories. I will try the refried beans with cheese. I don't know about tofu yet because it may interfere with my thyroid medication.

    800-1,000 Calories

Depending on the meat, I can still only tolerate 1 or 2 oz. at a time. So I’m not quite where I need to be yet!

    800-1,000 Calories

I drink the Isopure. But my NUT only wants me drinking half a bottle a day. Of course on days where I don't eat a lot or when I vomit, I drink more to get to 60g of protein. I'm meeting my protein goals most days, but I haven't gotten more than 375 calories yet. I'm not up to eating 3 oz. of meat or vegetables with my meals yet (that's why my NUT wants me supplementing with protein water), so I'm sure my calories will be higher then. But I think they may still end up low.

    800-1,000 Calories

My NUT says not to worry about counting them either, but I keep reading about starving mode and how it can stall weight loss, etc. I know that I need to eat more in order to meet my protein needs (I still have to rely on drinking protein water to get 20g protein) in order to get to 60g total. But in the meantime, I'm doing what I can to get by.

    Panic Attacks?

Thanks! I chickened out and told my doctor that I changed my mind about going on an antidepressant. I see a therapist for the first time tomorrow and I hope it helps. I already feel better now than when I first made this post, but I’m still having sleep problems.

    Gastroparesis

My surgeon's nurse thinks that my vomiting has more to do with my constipation and lack of bowel movements. I think she may be right because I haven't had a BM all week and I got sick three times this week. I'm working on taking stool softeners every day to help!

    Noosa yogurt?

I add a little sugar free Torani syrup to it for added sweetness!

    Low Calcium?

I'm 2 months out from my RNY and I just realized today (after meeting with my NUT) that I've been taking my Calcium wrong!! I didn't realize a serving was TWO tablets, so I had been taking one at a time. I've unfortunately been getting in half the calcium I need, so I wonder if my calcium is low. I've been having horrible insomnia (a symptom of calcium deficiency) and I wonder if it could be related to this! My levels won't be checked until I'm 6 months out, so other than correcting the dose now, is there anything else I can do?
  17. I wish I would have known more about the emotional struggles that I’m going through. And that getting my fluids in is very difficult and like a full time job for me!

    Low Calcium?

I should have been more clear. I meant about the insomnia help. Like is fixing the possible deficiency the only thing that will help.

    Timing Issues

First, I want to legitimately say that I have the utmost respect for everyone making these surgeries work for you! I don't know how you guys thrive and keep your lives and yourselves together! I'm 2 months out from my RNY and I'm ready to have a major break down. (If I'm not already having one). I have so much worry and anxiety that I can't sleep. Actually sleep is the problem. I stay awake for what feels like 20 hours a day yet getting my fluids and my Vitamins in every day is still very difficult. I have no idea how I'm going to get a job and manage to get everything accomplished in much less time than I have now. I think I'm too anxious/afraid to sleep because I feel like I don’t deserve it. It scares me shitless that I won’t get all my fluids, Proteins, vitamins, etc. in. I had absolutely no idea it would be this hard. I don't know how I thought that I was cut out for this.

    Panic Attacks?

I'm just praying that this decision doesn't end up being too great for me.

    Enjoying Life?

I'm 2 months out from my RNY and my life resolves around my surgery. I'm sure a large part of that is because I stay at home all day, mostly to myself. I was the same pre-op, so this isn't exactly new. I just feel like the same distractions that helped me get through my days before (social media, Netflix, writing, Pinterest, etc.) don't give me the same kind of satisfaction right now. I do like spending time with my mom and my sister and I try to make that time with them as normal as possible. I'll eat, take my meds, etc. when I need to but other than that I try to keep my mind off my surgery and just try enjoying their company like always. I joke that I feel like a robot because my mind is always focused on fluids, protein, vitamins, etc. that it doesn't seem like there's much room for anything else. 1. If/When did your daily routine start to feel normal and not so much like a chore? 2. How do you manage to have fun, etc. while still taking care of your daily needs?

    Panic Attacks?

I've never dealt with this kind of anxiety and living in fear before. It's new and it’s freaking me out.

    Panic Attacks?

I didn’t realize the magnitude of every day life after surgery. I took it lightly and I realize that now.

    Panic Attacks?

I really wonder if my insomnia is contributing to my mood swings. I'm sleeping less than 3 hours a night.

    Panic Attacks?

I have an in person support group meeting tomorrow. We'll see how that goes.
