  1. I'm female, 28 and almost 5 months out from surgery. SW 252 CW 208. Been plateaued because I haven't been working out and eating the right things. I need someone similar to me who I can talk to and who can help keep me accountable. I'll be willing to help keep someone else accountable if someone wants a mutual accountability thing. Lacking motivation

I am about 4.5 months post op. I have lost about 45 pounds so far without much effort. I'm having a really hard time keeping the motivation going. I find myself easily convincing myself to eat the bad foods that got me into this obese problem in the first place. I also wasn't given any kind of program by my surgeon's office, which is infuriating. They actually told me not to track anything. I'm the kind of person who needs goals to hit, like under 900 calories, or under 40 net carbs, just anything. Without any kind of goal I can easily convince myself to eat crappy foods. I also don't work out very much. I might do 20 minutes of yoga twice a week, and I hit my apple watch goal of 300 moving calories per day but otherwise I don't put forth much effort this way. I have a million excuses why I don't work out but the honest truth is I just don't want to most days. How do you keep going and working towards the goal? What things do you keep in mind every day, every time you go to the gym or work out? I'm lost and needing help and my doctor's office is being of no help.

    Lacking motivation

@@jenn1 This information was awesome. I've been looking for recipes but have been unsuccessful at googling. I will definitely be contacting another office for an information packet. Thank you so much! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Lacking motivation

The information I was given was very basic, like choose good foods. Fish, fruits, vegetables. Not much processed stuff. Exercise 30 minutes every day, high intensity. The same things that people on diets have been told for years. And yes, I'm sure if I ate that way all the time I would be losing very quickly, but complete restriction for me leads to binges, something I have a history with (BED and bulimia). They don't give numbers for protein because they said they have never had a patient suffer from protein deficiency in their 16+ years of practice. They tell their patients to eat their vegetables first to fill them up and then have protein second. Common sense dietary practices, but every other bariatric surgeon I've researched has said to eat protein first.

    Stomach capacity

I had the same concerns. My surgeon said full liquids are in and out as there is nothing solid for your stomach to break down. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  6. I'm 5.5 weeks out and am sick. I have a cold that thankfully hasn't developed a fever. Is this normal? I NEVER get sick, but I figured such a big change to my anatomy and diet has weakened my immune system. Any advice? I don't want to take any OTC medicines because a lot contain aspirin and I was instructed not to take NSAIDS. I also started a new job this week (hello stress!) so I feel like a train hit me. Any advice? sympathy? I'm so pitiful when I'm sick. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Weight Stalled

Sounds like your 3 week stall hit later than 3 weeks. I hit a stall at 3 weeks that lasted for 2.5. Just started losing again yesterday. Your body is in a state of shock and trying to deal with what to do. I shook mine up by limiting carbs and making sure to stay under 700 calories. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. My surgeon said 100% of the people who go back to them having gained weight drink while they eat. They don't follow the wait 30 minutes rule. Eat lower carb and wait 30 minutes after eating to drink anything. It's hard, I'm only 5 weeks out and I struggle with it too. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    plateaus and other ungodly events.

I had surgery July 5 and have stalled for the last 3 weeks now. I am going crazy, I'm only eating 800 calories each day (maximum) and drinking my fluids. I was actually told by my surgeons office NOT to track anything except fluids and to not, under no circumstances, drink during meals. I haven't been able to walk due to a minor back injury but even eating 800 calories I should be losing SOMETHING. My NUT suggests actually eating vegetables first because they never see Protein deficiencies. Regardless, I'm going insane from the stalling. No measurement changes, no weight changes. I try to keep a positive mindset but it's hard sometimes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. I'm almost done with week 1 of purees and I'm having a hard time because there's not much to eat. My doctor told me a puree is something that can be sipped through a straw, and soft foods are purees with some chunks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. One of my incisions was through my belly button. I don't feel anything there, nothing hurts, but there is a hard lump under the skin. I'm thinking its scar tissue and if it were a hernia it would hurt or there would be some other indication. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow but if anyone has had an incision hernia, what was it like? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. My doctor had one week full liquids after surgery, 2 weeks purees, 2 weeks soft foods, then back to regular foods. I've eaten some soft scrambled eggs and chicken salad and both have gone down fine. I just make sure to chew it down to a mush before swallowing Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    5 Days Post-Op- Pain

I had the same thing. One week post op it magically got better and I didn't need pain meds anymore. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. I am one week post op. Sometimes I am able to drink a lot of liquids rather quickly compared to immediately post op. For example, I was able to finish an 11 oz Protein drink in about 20 minutes. Is my stomach 11 oz or is the protein drink going straight through or is my pouch 11 oz? I can't eat that much, I can only handle about 1/3 cup of food right now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. I had my surgery on Tuesday. I'm home and resting but is it ok if I'm laying around most of the time? I get up every few hours and walk around the house for 5 minutes or so. I'm very aware of complications like DVT and PE but the painkillers make me sleepy and I am in a lot of pain without them. Thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    What to expect post op?

I had mine on Tuesday. The only real pain I'm dealing with is gas pains. I'm still adjusting to how much I can eat so sometimes I drift off and gulp something which causes some pain. I'm very careful after the first time I did that not to do it again. I can walk around fine, I've been doing things like small loads of laundry and some dishes. I plan to be just fine in a couple more days after the gas dissipates. My doctor won't allow gas x and wants the gas to pass naturally so I have to wait for that. I've read a lot of people have success with gas x strips after surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. I am lucky, I only have to do 5 days of the diet with 5 premier Protein shakes daily. Today is my last day and I am so tired. Tomorrow is clear liquid diet and I'm afraid I won't be able to take my son to the museum like I planned. What will life be like after surgery, will I always be tired? Liquid diet

Last day of the full liquid diet here. Tomorrow is Clear liquids and surgery on Tuesday. I caved this morning and had a cracker and a pickle spear. Since my BMI is so close to 40 (40.5 to be exact) I'm not super worried but I definitely shouldn't have done it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. Girl I actually came here to write the same thing. I am waiting on insurance approval and anticipate a surgery date of mid July and right now I'm like "screw it, I'm eating whatever I want." Been doing this for a week now and I feel so crappy that tomorrow I'm going back to a low carb diet because LC makes me feel better (due to insulin resistance). Because my insurance doesn't require a diet for 6 months, I had the thought of "I'm going to eat Whataburger and apple pie and cupcakes until the liquid diet starts." Now if I see another junk food I may vomit from disgust. My body is ready for this surgery and I'm so ready for it that I'm going to start feeding it nutritious and healthy choices before I even have to start my liquid diet.
