I ordered a pair of skinny jeans and they were too big (size 16)! I also can't remember the last time I weighed this, which means it was probably about 10 years ago. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protein - UK

I also have one of the Bulk powder shakes for Breakfast every day, although I ordered four flavours in bulk and man are they getting old! I've also noticed that Tesco and Sainsburys are pretty good at keeping Protein shakes in the chiller near the milk, and although they are hideously expensive and you have to watch the sugar on some of them, they are good in a bind. I also ordered some Lavash bread from muscle food, which was really good for fake pizza as it's nice and soft. Just beware - the sweet treats from muscle food are all DENSE and the last time I tried a protein waffle it did not end well! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protein - UK

Hey all, I have the Nature Valley Protein bars as an afternoon snack. They're only 10g of protein but I find they help me meet my daily goals and taste either like snickers (chocolate peanut) or maple syrup (peanut yoghurt). Most supermarkets sell them (although I tend to stock up when they are £2 or below). As a treat I also like the Eat Natural Protein Bars (peanut and chocolate)- super delicious and coconutty and 10g protein too. A little higher on the calories, but worth it for the taste. I also picked up some Maxi Nutrition bars from costco, although found these to be the stodgy, powdery kind of bars, which personally make me gag a bit. Other half seems to like them and they come in chocolate caramel flavour. Also just remembered that we ordered some flapjacks from muscle food which were a bit dense for me but pack an enormous amount of protein into a relatively small portion. Probably best as a meal replacement though as I think the calories run to about 250. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Two Weeks to Go!

I'm at 55lbs down, which is about halfway to my first goal. It will leave me at about 4lbs to go to a "healthy" BMI. I'm exactly the same. I got my first "you're looking slim" from someone I hadn't told this week, which made me think that there must be some difference! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I thinks that's pretty sensible Rosie- we've got to allow ourselves a little treat! I keep a little stash of biscuits in for those really desperate moments (or where I am so below my calorie intake for the day!) How's the weight loss going? I'm finding mine has slowed a little bit, but not too much. I reached my halfway point this week, which is a bit confusing because I feel no different! On an average day I'm on 900 a day, although I am 175cm (so pretty tall for a lady) and my weight is currently 113kg and I'm pretty inactive. Overall, I think it's pretty personal, but if the calories aren't working for you, then I'd try upping them and see what happens? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

It's bizarre, pretty much my whole life I've been on low fat diets, and trying to get enough protein in sometimes requires that I ignore the little voice shouting about high fat (Babybels and pretty much every other cheese for example!) I hear the Quest bars are meant to be amazing, haven't made it to a H&B to find out yet though! Another good snack for protein are those "complete cookies" - although again- haven't tried them yet, so can't confirm! I did a big order from Muscle food as well, which means that we now have high protein waffles (awful awful awful) pancakes (not as awful) lavash bread (really nice) and tortillas (also good) along with a bunch of meat for the other half. It was pretty cost effective and they have a good range of snacky high protein stuff (just don't be fooled by the high protein Nutella like I was- that stuff is possibly the worst thing Ive eaten so far!) You could also try things like chicken or turkey sausages or maybe even something like jerky or high meat content hot dogs as a snack? I am digging the Quorn cocktail sausages at the moment, even my carnivorous other half thinks they are delicious! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Two Weeks to Go!

Morning Rosie! So some initial thoughts (and this is just from personal experience) - Firstly, I think you probably need to eat more, more often. At the moment I try to eat five times a day, which looks like this: Breakfast: protein shake (gross) Lunch: 50g smoked salmon with 30g avocado and some roasted veggies Snack: nature valley protein bar (chocolate and nut- tastes like a snickers..) and a Babybel Dinner: fish pie or a fake pizza made with a tortilla wrap and some Passata, prawns and cheese. Snack: (usually to get my calories up) Babybel and a couple of Jaffa cakes or a hobnob. I think the protein bars are a great idea, but maybe try one as an afternoon snack in addition to your normal food? My other half also suggests things like cashews, protein weetabix with Skyr yoghurt (I prefer it with milk- he's weird). It also looks like there isn't a lot of fibre going on, and things like nuts and weetabix or even some whole grain crackers (in moderation with cheese) in the evening could help. Also, if you're having creme fraiche then you could try swapping it out for some Greek yoghurt (which from memory has a better protein ratio) and substituting half your strawberries for 50g of a sugar free muesli or granola as it would give you a bit of protein, fibre and sugar to start the day? You could also try the old Slimming World favourite of overnight oats with yoghurt, oats and strawberries for a quick breakfast on the go? I also find that nut butters (either almond or peanut) are good for calories and protein. Let me know if any of this is wide of the mark, as I said, it's just my experience! Keep on keeping on- it's going to get better! MB Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Rosie- give us an average day for you an maybe we can help out a bit? Also, as I remember you're not a big fan of meat/seafood, so let us know what you like/hate and we can try and figure this out. It may also be worth speaking to your GP about seeing a dietician. I'm off for my first appointment next month, which I'm hoping will be good. MB Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Two Weeks to Go!

So sorry you're disappointed @RosieCheeks- I was reading somewhere that our bodies are hard wired to try and maintain or get back to our highest weights. I know it's disheartening, but look at all those lovely NSV's you've had! It sounds like the protein thing might be a factor, as well as the calories. I'm trying my hardest to get 700-800 in a day, and it really made a difference to my first stall. I described the journey as strange, mainly because the times I lose weight I don't feel any different, but when I maintain, or don't check myself too much I feel much more confident. I'm approaching the point at which I can say it's the lowest weight I've been in recent memory, which blows my mind. Something I struggled with this week: lunch time. I'm getting a fair few funny looks and comments about content/portion size. Those few people I've told at work are always wonderful and change the subject quickly, but I have a training day with lunch provided next week and a networking breakfast that are already making me nervous! Keep going, don't worry too much- we're all going to get there! MB Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Two Weeks to Go!

I've been looking forward to splashing out on a new wardrobe too! We have a big ball at Christmas and I'm hoping to look pretty different from last year! To begin with, I was a bit obsessed with the scales, but it's not too bad now. I know there will be weeks where they barely move but conversely I feel much better about myself than the weeks they drop and I feel like I look exactly the same. This really is a strange journey- still, one month down and 10kg lighter. I'm happy with that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Two Weeks to Go!

Morning all! Just thought I would drop in and let you know about my NSV last night! (Admittedly, it started out with a bit of a nightmare!) I was happily sitting at home, in my pjs (no judging) after dinner last night when I logged into my work emails. I was waiting for a client to send something back that I needed for today, and being the paranoid soul I am, wanted to check it was in my inbox. I logged in, and to my horror, it was not. (Wild panic ensued). I then checked my outbox and to even more horror, my last email was stuck there! Long story short, dashed out of my PJs into the first clothes out of the closet and raced to work to send the email properly. It wasn't until I got home that I realised the jeans I had slung on were the ones I had bought before surgery, that wouldn't even go over my thighs. Admittedly, they were still a bit tight on the tummy, but I am taking that as my first NSV thank you very much! Hope everyone is well! MB Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

@@RosieCheeks I'm doing much better thanks- have managed oatmeal and a little fish pie over the last couple of day, which has been really exciting! (Lame!) Boyfriend has now hidden the scales save for my once a week weigh day.. I was getting a bit obsessive I think! I still need to concentrate on my protein intake- it's just so hard when everything you eat is mushy! Oh well- couple more weeks and I'll be trying new, not mushy foods! How's things with you? Two Weeks to Go!

I was a bit gutted yesterday because egg was such a nice change from protein shakes and yoghurt, and then my tummy decided that change was bad. I'll give it a week or so and try again. As much as you feel your diet yesterday was awful, I would imagine comparing it to a bad day pre-op will make you feel a little less guilty about it? I find I'm struggling with getting calories in still- yesterday was a huge day eating wise (protein shake, weetabix and a bit of banana twice, not counting the egg as it wasn't there for long enough!) and I'm still only managing less than 400 cal a day. Is that fairly normal? Going to seek out some more mushie foods to try today- fingers crossed! Have lovely days both! MB Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
