  1. I have 2 weeks of Protein shakes starting Wednesday- I am super nervous! surgery is only 16 days away!

    And Criztian:

Do you guys have to do the clear liquid diet before your surgeries?

I'm only on a liquid diet for 24 hours. After surgery I will do the Clear Liquids for three days including the day of surgery. I then will go to full liquids for five days and then puréed food until my post op appointment. That's the way mine is set up.

I can have Protein drinks during my 24 hour liquid diet pre surgery but since I don't really like them I drink protein Water.

  2. Tomorrow I go on the 3 day, clear liquid diet, before my Surgery on Wednesday. Man, the nerves are REALLY kicking in! Every time I think about it, I get butterflies.

Can you guys please just give me a little support and encouragement that I can wake up to tomorrow morning? Maybe it won't be so bad if I can look at the things you've said from time to time when it gets hard.

I have surgery on Wednesday as well. We are almost there!!!!!!

  4. so i had hope that the unjury chicken Soup and unflavored Protein powder would work for me. no such luck... i almost threw up. i hate it... its so nasty :( i think i am going to be fine post op because i should be able to tolerate just an oz at a time but I'm most worried about the pre op diet. my surgeon requires 1-2 weeks doing a modified diet (2 shakes, 2 Protein Bars or crisps and one meal that is high Protein high in veggies and low fat low carbs.) then a week on Protein Shakes only. its the week only on protein shakes that i am worried about. i think ill be able to tolerate the modified diet but only the shakes.... thats another story. i don't know if ill even be able to tolerate that much Isopure :( it leaves a weird film in your mouth. help i don't know what to do! :(:(:(

I do Protein drinks instead of shakes. I couldn't stomach the shakes. My most tolerated one is by trimino and it is the strawberry lemonade. I add a bit more unflavored Protein Powder to them so I get more protein since they are only 7 grams of protein per drink. There are also other brands that make flavored Protein Drinks with more protein in them like isopure.

My doctors office wouldn't give me a date until I had all of my evaluations done. I had to be cleared by the nutritionist, and the psychologist first. My insurance had to approve me first too. My insurance company has assigned a case manager nurse whom has had the surgery as well so I can ask her all the questions!

I guess that's why I'm not nervous because I'm pretty much there. My biggest hurdle will be this pre op diet for the next three weeks!

  6. What do you have left to do? And have you got any of the Vitamins?

I hope you meant to ask me...

I have samples that the nutritionist gave me but no I have not gotten my Vitamins. Honestly I'm trying to figure out what will meet the requirements but still be cost efficient because I don't want to spend a bunch of money monthly for vitamins.

I have nothing left to do except for whatever they do preop. I start my diet tomorrow. Other than that I'm just waiting until the date. You?

  7. I think if it doesn't say then it's up to the doctor. My insurance doesn't require much of anything except to meet the 40+BMI or 35+ w/co morbidity. I have my own psychologist but I still have to see theirs since they specialize in bariactrics. I've seen a nutritionist within the past two years but I still have to see theirs. If I were you I'd check with the surgeons office and let them know to see if that could count.

  8. @@Elle09 THat's a nice program. I still think it's best when you have the trainer come to you! lol But I like that they have set this up.

I just started back with zumba! Good for you for doing it that many times a week! It is definitely a great workout!

Having a trainer come to you seems perfect in many ways. I use to do Zumba classes and I hope to get back into it in the next few months. I just have to find an instructor that zumbas to the kind of music I like.. Lol.

  9. I had to do one pre surgery and post surgery. At mine I sat with an exercise physiologist after he weighed me and we discussed he asked questions in regards to exercise history, medical issues, what type of activities I participated in. He then came up with an exercise plan and made some recommendations pre-surgery. Post surgery was a follow up to the first meeting to see what I had been doing and to make recommendations for exercise in regards to physical limitations due to surgery.

Thanks for letting me know! The doctors office did schedule a metabolic rate appointment right before it so everything you said makes perfect sense to me now!

  10. I did not have one of these. It's interesting. To me, though, the difficult thing regarding exercise isn't always knowing what to do, it's finding the motivation to actually do it. Everyone I know has the same problem! For a while, I had a physical trainer come to my house. I did it for several reasons: I'm lazy! but mostly if I had an appointment like that, it's much more difficult to cancel it. It worked out really well. I did stop eventually but am talking with him and maybe starting up again.

but, the eval, that's interesting and not horrible. It's just too bad that they don't have an exercise class or a list of trainers that you could hire. That is more helpful than telling you how to exercise (which is still good but just not as good)

I think this is used for patients that aren't active at all pre-op and may have some barriers to certain exercise. It's to make sure the person is properly exercising and won't hurt themselves. I haven't had my Eval yet and not sure I will but welcome it.

That's interesting because I do have some problems with exercising. I hurt my back in a car accident and I have knee problems to the point where I will need surgery. Thank you for your input!

  11. I've always been overweight. I honestly thought it was normal when I was younger because my family was full of overweight people. Almost two years ago I lost an uncle to congestive heart failure. He was very overweight, had sleep apnea and other health problems. I'm overweight, have sleep apnea, diabetes, high blood pressure, and more. I've tried to lose weight many different ways but it never sticks. I finally got tired of feeling like I'm dying in my own body. Don't get me wrong I love myself but I don't love all of the extra weight. It's damaging my whole being. I was scared of the surgery but then I found out my aunt did it and since I've considered it, I've found so many helpful people that it makes the process seem simple. I know it's major surgery but I don't feel alone in the process with being able to reach out to so many people over the Internet. I'm new to the process so I have a few appointments to go but hopefully everything goes well!!
