  1. I've had impulses too and have attempted to act on them (by eating something sweet) but the physical body can't do it. Instead now I'll have a bite of cake or a bite of s great pasta dish and that's it, I'm satisfied and I'm done. I think I'll always have the "old" impulses but we can no longer eat as much.

    Breads Products!

Oh gosh can't remember how soon (15 mos post-RNY) but the first nibble was a spicy tuna roll (6 pieces) of which I could only eat one. I removed the rice and just ate the spicy tuna. I can now eat an entire roll but it's pushing it. I never eat bread (too filling) potatoes and pasta sometimes but it's a difficult food to eat and I used to love these bad carbs.

    Blessed be the chili

Chili was my go to meal too post-op. I never had problems like you did but it was so good to eat. You'll feel better every day.

    Any tips on chewing slowly?

I am 14 mos post-op RNY and I have not been successful at this. I have always been a fast eater but I know I've slowed down a bit but not to the recommended amount. I do wait the 30 mins for drinking but I've never gotten ill from eating too fast (yet).

    Hard to digest meat

I am 14 months post-op (RNY) and I've never been able to digest meat with the exception of ground beef. I love fish of any kind and I tolerate chicken. Eggs no problem either but my go to protein is yogurt. Love my yogurt.

    Rumours or truth?

Fifteen months post RNY surgery. Never once had dumping syndrome or diarrhea. I can eat almost anything I want. I do take Vitamin D. My bone density perfect. It has been very easy for me.

    Any tips on chewing slowly?

After a year post RNY I still eat too fast. I chew food but just eat fast, always have.
  9. I was experiencing this when I was eating sugar (cookies, cakes) and starchy carbs (bread, pasta, rice). I eliminated bad carbs and increased vegetable and no longer have gas and stools are normal in color.
  10. Just had my one year post-RNY followup with surgeon. Was disappointed to see I gained a few pounds after having a stall for 6 months. After reviewing labs we discussed what was different in my diet and routine. I recently had difficulty with arthritis and loose matter behind my kneecap preventing me from my exercise of walking. Surgeon recommended I eliminate all bad carbs (breads, pasta, rice, etc) while I am not able to walk (start PT tomorrow after fluid drained from knee and a cortisone shot). I am pleased to report that I've lost about 4lbs already. I am motivated to stay away from the bad carbs and eager to begin my PT.
  11. I spent entire time in hospital gown and hospital provided socks. Didn't have time to read or such. Bring saline nose spray (rooms are so dry) and I got several nose bleeds. I also got migraines when narcotics wore off and they would only give me one dose of my migraine medicine (injection) even thou it was prescribed as "as often as needed". Moisturizer too for skins/face. Time will fly by. Good luck!

    Vitamin Question

I've discovered that every surgeon and every nutritionist have their own opinions. Follow what your surgeon and your nutritionist tell you. Good luck, this is the best decision you've made - to get healthy.

    Pace Maker in Stomach

This was a result of surgery? Redundant colon can be congenital or heredity based. Also from severe constipation or an overuse of laxatives. What will the pacemaker-like device do? Stimulate?

    Face after surgery

I am 61 and I know I look a bit younger but what most people say is I look healthier which is why I had surgery. I did notice during the rapid weight loss I had a "turkey neck" but I think it has improved over time. I'm interested in the laser procedure someone else mentioned.

    Vitamins

I'm 11 months post-op RNY. I stopped taking the chewable multivitamins since they started breaking down in my pill tray (I need a pill tray because I can't remember crap). Then started taking multivitamins in pill form (had to cut in half). Does anyone use a gel form multivitamin and if so are they small enough to swallow? Thanks.

    Vitamins

Yes, as I explained in my post, I've been taking multivitamins (pill form). Was asking about gel tablets. I am well aware of the timing with calcium. I'm concerned about the absorption of pill form vs gel vs chewable.
  18. Your stall is same as mine. Same start weight and current weight. Lost 70 and stalled for 4 months. I've slacked on exercise over winter months. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pain Meds?

I was on Dilaudid in hospital that gave me migraines when it wore off. I choose not to use it because of the migraines. Went home with Oxy but that produced the same effects. The pain wasn't that great. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. I am 6 month post op RNY. I never was afraid but I was prepared mentally to live a life of eating differently. I do admit the first few weeks were difficult in getting in all the required Protein shakes and Water. I just did the best I could. I had absolutely no pain or discomfort. I did however feel exhausted the first few months and both my surgeon and my primary told me to be patient. I was and slowly my energy level came back. I can practically eat anything I want but stay away from sugar. meat is difficult to process so I eat more chicken, pork and fish. I love yogurts and fresh fruits. I have absolutely no regrets and find that it is a lot easier then I anticipated so I am very happy. My health has improved tremendously too! Good luck to you. Having issues taking vitamins

I had a difficult time just post surgery trying to get in all the chewable Vitamins. It didn't last long so I wouldn't recommend investing in an expensive gadget. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Leg Cramping

I am 6 mos post op RNY. Last night while I was laying in bed watching television, I developed severe leg cramping in both upper thighs. It was so painful it was almost impossible to get out of bed. Luckily I had a bottle of Water on nightstand and drank a lot of water thinking it may have been due to dehydration. I finally laid on my side and stretched my leg and did the same to the other side. It wasn't a Charlie horse which is in the calf. It finally relaxed but wow was it uncomfortable. Anyone else experience this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Thanks for the posts. I thought about potassium. I know a banana will help pretty fast. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. I've noticed that I feel hungry a lot. I'm 6 month post op RNY. I used to drink a Protein powder with milk and coffee in the morning but I've switched to having an egg with toast or yogurt with fruit, etc. but I've noticed I've been snacking a lot and I'm nervous about my increased appetite. What are some suggestions for foods that keep you feeling full? I actually consumed 1700 calories yesterday vs my average 900-1100 calories. Yikes! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Foods to keep you full.

Thanks @kymberle61. My NUT told me to keep my Protein at 62g due to my height (1g per 1" of height), I'm 5'2". My Protein powder plus milk is almost half my protein (28) for the day which leave 32g protein for lunch and dinner and no Snacks. I could try cutting my protein powder in half. Have you heard this before about one gram of protein per inch of height? How many grams of protein do you consume in a day? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
