  1. I'm scheduled for RNY June 20th. The nursing Union will be voting on June 6th to decide if they will accept the contract offer (very unlikely) or vote to strike. Should they choose to strike, the earliest they could walk off the job is June 16th. This most certainly would affect my surgery date. I talked with my surgeon who stated that his understanding is that if there is a strike - it could delay my surgery up to another 5 weeks. I have another option to move up my surgery date to June 13th if there is OR time available. I know it sounds great, but I'm having my daughter's high school graduation party on 6-12. I will have so much to do for this along with clean up that I don't know that I or my family can be ready to do this. I also don't want to put off surgery for another 5-6 weeks either so I am torn as to what to do. If anyone has some advice, please let me know. Thank you.

  2. I have only told my mother and my husband about my surgery. I come to find out that my husband has been sharing this news with many of our close friends and family without my knowledge. I am hurt and feel betrayed. My spouse stayed he did not know this was a "secret". I wanted to disclose this to people when I was ready. I am not prepared for the scrutiny of my decision for those who don't support it. Has anyone else ran into this issue?

  3. Thank you- I have sleep apnea and mild GERD. No official diabetes. I have a friend who had VSG 3 years ago and has put back on 20# because she slipped back into old habits. The VSG is new so there isn't a lot of data to indicate long term success. I know that even with the malabsorption risks with bypass the data indicates long term success

  4. I am 5' 2" 199# with a BMI of 36. I have been approved for surgery. I am torn between having VSG and gastric bypass. I understand that surgery is a tool but I am so worried that the VSG will not be restrictive enough and feel the potential for regain is higher

Than with the bypass. I have such craving for sweets that I feel I need a physical deterrent to keep me on the path of a healthy lifestyle. Any suggestions?
