Smoking
Autumn Riley Arnold replied to Autumn Riley Arnold's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, unfortunately I know the lasting effects of short term smoking, too. I've only been smoking for 5 years. 5 YEARS and I was diagnosed with mild COPD in December. I've been trying to quit since then. Wasted a shit load of money on patches. But I will keep trying. I type all this as I'm smoking a cig =( -
Worried about losing weight too quickly
Autumn Riley Arnold replied to Autumn Riley Arnold's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor is pretty cool. He might say I need it, but I won't know until I ask =) -
I've noticed different medical bracelets notifying gastric bypass, bariatric patient, no blind ng tube. and also no nsaids. Is this something that's going to be necessary for me to wear? I'm young, I really don't want to have to wear these!

Many surgeons will not perform surgery unless nicotine free for 30 days! Some insurance plans won't pay unless smoke free for 3-6 months! You will not heal well either! Sent from my KFFOWI using the BariatricPal App Yes, true. I don't plan on getting the surgery or getting approved until August anyway, but this is definitely our last bag now. -

Probably not the best question to ask, but here I go...

It's probably discouraged by most people, but what is going to be your last meal (or meals) before you get the surgery? (I obviously don't mean RIGHT before, lol, I know there is a diet to go on to shrink the liver. I'm talking about way before surgery) I want to have two last meals, not necessarily two days in a row. I want KFC because it will probably be the last time in my life that I will ever taste the colonel's original recipe! =) And I would like a fat, juicy steak and a lobster tail from Outback. So what about you? -

It all sounds very good! Yes, I know I will be able to eat these foods eventually, but I won't be able to eat them for a very long time. So it is a food funeral to me. =) -
Little rewards when you hit certain goal weights
Autumn Riley Arnold posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What (if any) are some of the things you're going to do, get or buy when you reach certain weight milestones? =D Here's mine... 275: pounds I'm going to get a gothic (I'm gothic lol, sorry to the ones who hate us) Vial necklace and two bracelets of the same genre 240: pounds I'll be getting all the cool piercings that I've been wanting in my ears. 220 pounds: Nose piercing (like I had when I was thin before) 200 pounds: This tattoo of a cassette tape (I grew up in the '80s. lol) 180 pounds: Dahlia piercing 160: Dread my hair (which is going to be a task because I'm white, so I want it to look good and not look like shit locks lol) And at my goal weight of 140: Work on getting sleeves. How about you? I'm interested in finding out what you really want to do or get to reward your achievements! -

Medicare approval/denial

Does anyone have, or is anyone familiar with Medicare and whether or not they usually approve or deny surgery? I just read that the bigger the insurance company, the more difficulty a person will have with getting approved. -

Haven't had the surgery yet, but I have a question.
Autumn Riley Arnold posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After getting the surgery I'm supposed to be on a clear liquid diet. I want to get all my protein in so I have whey protein powder. I'm going to mix that with water. But is this ok? I mean it's flavor is chocolate. There's only 2 grams of sugar in it, 100 calories and 6 carbs. Will I be ok with drinking this right after surgery or do I need an unflavored protein drink in the first week after surgery? -

True, I guess it's different for each person. But this is a book that was given to everyone in the nutritional class. So idk -

In Jesus' name huh? lol Well it sounds like you're very determined with having quit soda already! You're really preparing yourself! You're one of the ones who will probably keep it off for good years after surgery! Very inspiring! And Taco Bell! Forgot about that lol! I probable will get a couple of little Mexi Melts from there. Those are my favorites. They're such an old item I don't think they're even on the menu anymore! But they're really good =) -

Autumn Riley Arnold replied to Autumn Riley Arnold's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I think I'm gonna just have to ask my Nutritionalist about exactly what I can have right after surgery. My handy dandy little bariatric book says You will be sent home on a bariatric clear liquid diet. Please do no forget to sip on Water throughout the day. Your goal should be 64 ounces each day. It says: You will start Protein supplements on day 3 after surgery You will progress to full liquids day 7 after surgery. But I need to know exactly what I can have, you know? So I guess i'll ask her or him. Thanks for your replies and advice though! I appreciate it so much! -

Week one rant

I agree. You should complain about how they treated you. Sounds like a horrible hospital with incompetent staff
