  1. I am just almost 6 weeks out and I probably eat 1/4 cup of food. I don't really feel hungry or full ever, but I do feel satisfied after eating a few bites of food.

    Sleeve vs Bypass

I had bypass 5 weeks ago, no complications yet, besides getting a little dehydrated. Initially I planned on the sleeve, but my pre op tests showed that I have reflux. This was a total surprise to me since I've never experienced the symptoms. Reflux can be made much worse with the sleeve, and can require a revision to bypass. I didn't want to risk that, and though I would have preferred not rerouting things, I felt comfortable with the bypass knowing it has been done for much longer than the sleeve with great results. Another plus is that bypass patients usually lose a little more those who are sleeved. I don't think you can go wrong either way, though if you have reflux the sleeve is a bit of a gamble.
  3. Mine was about 6.5 months, even though I tried to speed up the process as much as possible, and my insurance didn't require any kind of supervised diet. The NUT on my surgeon's team required 3 visits over 3 months. It could have easily taken another month or two if I didn't ask for earliest possible appointments and call to ask my office to submit the paperwork to insurance right away (and called again when I found they had not yet submitted it.)
  4. I have been wondering this too. I've lost 35 lbs in about a month but still can't fit into my pre-baby clothes (I've been wearing mostly maternity clothes since my daughter was born 11 months ago.)
  5. I just had my surgery on Oct 5th, but I was was around 37 BMI on the day of surgery. I lost about 30 lbs from the start of my pre op diet until 2 week post op. I've been in the infamous 3 week stall since then (16 days).

    Straws

My team said it was a no no because it allows you to drink too much at a time. I used one once when I was driving longer than expected and needed to go through a drive thru for Water. I didn't want to spill so I was really careful to take tiny sips.
  7. I'm looking for advice about attending a wedding when I will be 6.5 weeks post op. Would you try to eat or just go without? My plan starts introducing real foods at 5-8 weeks. My surgeon said that an occasional small glass of wine post op would be fine, so long and I do not drive. Can anyone tell me what it's like to have a drink post op?
  8. I'm at my my 2nd post op appt (saw the nurse last week but my surgeon couldn't be there) and was told I'm dehydrated and need IV fluids. I knew I was not getting 64 oz a day, but didn't think I was doing that bad. Does anyone have tips for reaching your Water goals? I already feel like I'm drinking all day but not very much at a time. 9. I don't think there is a buffet, I chose salmon for my dinner. Do you think I would be able to eat things like cheese? Real food makes me nervous!
  10. I was told to crush meds and put in pudding. Is there a better way? I'm 3.5 weeks out and can't swallow pills yet.
  11. I drank a ton of coffee pre op, probably 6-8 cups a day. I work evenings/overnights and am home with a baby during the day so I really needed it to stay awake. When I started my pre op diet I bought a second coffee maker to make decaf in the mornings, and everyday added more to my coffee until it was all decaf. I had a few headaches but I'm not sure if it was the caffeine or the liquid diet. I tried a cup of decaf post op and it tasted like dirt to me. I don't really plan to go back to coffee ever, I'm glad to be free of that addiction!
  12. I'm in the same stall, I haven't lost anything for 8 days, but I definitely look like I'm still losing weight. I skimmed some articles about it and my take away is that around 3 weeks at a calorie deficit your body switches from using short term energy storage(glycogen) to long term storage (fat). I think you're still losing weight, but your body starts retaining Water and making more glycogen to put back what was used from short term storage, so the scale doesn't move. This is different from stalls that will happen later on, you don't need to do anything to get through this one but wait.
  13. that happened to me too. I use a tongue scraper but hadn't for a week or so since I was off work, it all scraped off and hasn't come back. I think its from not eating anything that would normally "clean" your tongue.

    Six week liquid diet!

You're amazing! Tomorrow will be 4 weeks on liquids only for me as well, but I had my RNY two weeks ago. I found trying new Protein shakes and combining different broth helps.

    How about some NSVs!?!?

I'm only 9 days post op but my bed has stopped creaking every time I move! It seems silly but it is a NSV for me because I share my bedroom with my 10 month old daughter, and it used to be that every time I rolled over she cried, and if I had to get out of bed, it woke her up. We are both sleeping so much better!
  19. I don't know why I waited until Day 5 of my 2 week liquid diet to try this. It's amazing! I feel like I'm actually eating real food again!

    How much water per hour

I have to dilute my shakes 50/50 with skim milk so that helps. Each shakes ends up being 22 oz and each ice cube I use is another ounce. I usually turn each shake into 3 servings with 3 ice cubes each so that's 62 ounces just from the shakes.

    Lemon?

I felt the same way after eating broth too fast a few days post op. I also walked around a started to feel better after an hour or so. Where can you eat dolphin? I thought they were one of the most intelligent animals so I'm kind of surprised they are eaten.
  22. I'm 5 days post op RNY and today I've had this sharp stabbing pain in my left breast. It only lasts a second and has happen 10-15x. Has anyone experienced this? I think it could be related to the surgery or maybe to the mostly clear liquid diet I've been on, since Ive never had this before. I was breastfeeding but quit about 4 month ago.

    Compression Garment?

They put one on me in the hospital and I've been wearing it since. I'm 6 days post op. It's just a simple abdominal binder. My surgeon claimed it would help with loose skin but I'm not sure I believe that.

What's your best protein shake recipe?

Premier Protein has 30g of protein in 11oz and 160 calories, its one of the brands my surgeon recommends. I like it because its premade and the powders come out too foamy when I make them. Its about $1.5-$2 per drink at my grocery story. I've heard it is also at Walmart. I have added Peanut Butter powder to it and its tastes great!
