Kindle what the hell do you know about WLS? 3 1/2 years out and only dropped 115% of your weight and kept it off? You have no right to advise anyone. Who do you think you are? Lol. Just wanted to lighten it up a bit. Thanks for your dedication. Sanju just isn't used to your bluntness, but now he knows. We newbies have to learn and if we ask, it's usually because we want a little justification I guess. Not always, but for me anyway.

The point is kind of moot anyway because you need Protein first. Banana will just take up room for nothing. I am 2 and a half months out almost, and I still only eat Protein first. That's me though.

I agree with christinamo7. The first two weeks seem difficult because you DO have to worry about what you put into your system. Trust me when I tell you, I was a HUGE binger all my life. I could sometimes eat over 10,000 (yes, that's 10 THOUSAND) calories in a day sometimes. During my early 40's I decided to curb that though, and tried eating better for my health. Incidentally, I believe I am the main reason I developed type 2 diabetes, knowing it ran in my family (what?? Nobody runs in my family, badumbump). I stopped the major overeating, and went to just overeating normally, lol. I was 277 at surgery and that was almost five weeks ago. I was 255 at my one week postop. I don't know what /if I've lost more (I feel like it) but I don't care. I know I'm on the right track and I CAN'T overeat or I will vomit. I HAVE eaten one or twice to the point of "too full" and couldn't stand the feeling but it's NO WHERE near what I used to eat. Not to mention, I don't eat sweets, fried, bread, Pasta, etc and frankly, I don't want any of that yet! The second week postop I craved weird things like watermelon (still haven't had) and Brussel sprouts. I'm a weirdo. Anyhoo, my point of this is to say, you won't be thinking of what to eat as much as you do the first few weeks. You will just make sure to not your Protein so you aren't tired and remember at any meal time, nutrients (protein) first! This is a tool. Good luck!

Same boat. In fact, I had the sleeve surgery mainly to control my sugar. I was disappointed the first week because it was still over 200 but I learned from previous ways of eating, that it takes a few weeks to lower. Don't get discouraged! It WILL come down. I was on metformin, Victoza, and glipizide before surgery. I took myself off the victoza and glipizide but still take metformin. My sugars are always good and I will find out my a1c in August.

I can have banana now in my soft stage not full liquid. I would have w/peanut butter as Breakfast. I try to make at least one of my meals (even thought they are teeny tiny) include a fruit or veggie. Protein is priority but I am hitting 100+ a day now.

WLS is only a tool. I realized last night that I am going through a break up with the greatest "love of my life" - food. I will NEVER be able to eat the way I did before. I was a binger, until the last year leading up to the surgery. I could stop at three fast food places on the way home and eat it all in one sitting. I would forego dates or nights with my boyfriend, just to be with my food. I was in a real relationship with food. Now I know I can't do that because in order to fuel my body, I need Protein first. I'm sure I'll be full after a few bites of Protein and veggies. It is an emotional ride, I am aware, but it's the best tool I could have used.

Thank you again, Cervidae! At home I totally eat everything you mentioned and I'm very strict with what I eat. But while on vacation, I struggle to find appropriate foods. BUT! Tomorrow we're headed home. I just worry about stepping on the scale when I get home. I'm totally a routine girl and being out of my routine has been tough. Thanks again.

@@KariLovesColorado go for lean meats/cheese, Soups without noodles in them, cottage cheese and yogurt, scrambled eggs, and the like. I wasn't allowed to eat salad until like 3 months out as well, and I still don't eat it often because it fills my stomach up and prevents me from getting in Protein, which I'm only now doing easily. When I crave veggie crunch, I eat pickle slices, banana peppers, or some onions with my lean Protein. It helps a lot to break up the monotony and puts some extra Fiber into my diet.

It took me quite a while to eat salads. What I did, and frankly still do most of the time, is get a salad with chicken on it and I eat the chicken first and then some of the random veggies on the salad but I still don't eat a lot of lettuce. It doesn't appeal to me much anymore. At least when I'm out. At home, I do have lettuce sometimes but it is definitely less lettuce than I ever used to have. Like I said, I eat the chicken, some tomatoes, green peppers, red onions and I'm very happy.

Thank you, Cervidae! Part of the problem is my dietician said "no salads" until my 3 month appointment, and while on vacation and eating out, that really limits my choices! When did you guys start eating lettuce?

My best friend has this problem as well. She is 7 months post op and she can eat a like a 'normal' person already. She was starving and able to eat a lot more post op than what the nutritionist and surgeon told her to expect. The surgeon actually offered to revise her bypass and make her pouch smaller and she declined.

While this is all happening much sooner than you may have been prepared for, this is completely normal! No one has the same kind of stringent restriction they had in the very beginning forever. Now it's up to you to continue letting your tool work for you. If you're the kind of person who can't have "a bite of this, a bite of that" without having terrible cravings come back, then just don't even have a little. Keep in mind that a bite of something may not have been enough to cause pain/dumping/vomiting, but it's entirely possible, even probably, that 2 bites of that same food will. I was so worried about these things in the beginning, because I had the same problem. Nothing really caused any issues, with a few exceptions like raw carrots and ground beef. Now, I'm almost a year out and I find that a bite here and there of something not great for me is actually the healthiest way to maintain for me. I generally eat perfectly healthy, with a bite of something I'm craving, and that's all. Then the craving is gone, and I move on. The amount of sugar/carbs/etc in whatever one bite of what I'm eating is negligible. If I were to try to be like I was the first six months post op, I would DEFINITELY fall off the wagon. Sometimes you have to satisfy the craving in a healthy way rather than ignore it until it has far more control over you than it should. Hope this helps in some way!

I found muscle milk the second week. It's 25 grams of Protein and not too much sugar. I think it has 3 or 4. Over ice it's great. I also sip an Isopure a day. That's 40 grams of Protein. There's 65 right there. Add a chicken breast to that or tuna, and I'm getting over 85 grams. It's so weird how I don't crave starchy, bread like foods, soda, or sweets (yet). I hope I'm over that coz I was bad. I'm almost five weeks out. Good luck! Oh, the first week, sf pudding helped one in a while and bone broth was HORRIBLE, so I had wonton broth strained at a Chinese restaurant. Yum at the time! Just be sure to get your protein, so your energy stays up and you are less likely to lose a lot of hair. Also, your liquids. We are all different so it's trial and error along the way. This site has helped me a lot through the process. Good luck! It gets better and better each day! (and I am taking up less space in the universe too!) win win

Read 'The Obesity Code' . Someone on here suggested it and I am reading it now. Trust me, I don't believe everything I read, or hear, but I use my own logic to decipher whether or not something makes sense. Being obese (30+ bmi) doesn't mean we are lazy, or have no will power, it all has to do with our makeup genetically and environment. Not saying that some of us AREN'T lazy (me at times) or that we don't overeat (I did that A LOT in my life before the sleeve) it's just another perspective of why some people are obese or have problems dropping weight, etc. It's not that hard to drop the weight on a fad or otherwise diet, the problem is keeping it off.
I always said I would never get weight loss surgery because the problem is mental, not physical. I too thought it was the "easy way out". Lo and behold, here I am 2 months out from the sleeve. I did it mostly for my diabetes control but I definitely need to lose weight too, and diet and exercise just didn't work long term for me. I was 277 day of surgery. A month later I was 248. I don't weigh at home, only at doctor, so I don't know how much more I lost, but I do know that I feel MUCH better and that my sugar is under control.
The only thing is, I wish I would have done this at your age instead of thinking I could do it on my own. I have a ton of journals I started whenever I started a "new plan". I would do well for a while then I would gain back plus. Oh, and it's not easy for sure. I did a lot of mental preparation. That was hard. Good luck!

@@shawnv1 The closer I got, the more I questioned my decision. I am 4 days post op right now and I feel like I made the best decision for me. I think I will ALWAYS wonder if there wasn't some other solution out there that I hadn't tried in my 51 years. Every time a new book comes out with a new diet that is a "game changer," I will wonder if it would have worked for me if I had just waited long enough. Meanwhile, life passes you by as a fat person who can't engage in life. How long is too long to wait to make a change to improve your health, particularly when it's right there for you now?

I understand where you're coming from. I've been having problems with my weight for pretty much my whole adult life. I have three children that I love very much. My surgery date is 7/19/16. Man, I'm really getting nervous. I've been contemplating on getting this surgery for over a decade, and now its right in view. This is a major decision because its life changing. I think sometimes we can get stuck on thinking what were losing, and not enough on what were gaining. Life has been pretty restrictive being over weight, and not just to me, but for my children and family in general. I'm going to pray and keep pushing. I look forward to a new life!!
