I had RNY, but I experienced lots of upper back pain....it was trapped gas. Walk, heating pad, stretch carefully, pump your arms, walk some more. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

  5. That's gas! Heating pad when you're sitting, lots and lots of walking, and pump your arms up and down, side to side, do gentle punching forward like you're a boxer, roll your neck around, and Tylenol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Approval time

My surgeon's office set my surgery date, then didn't submit me for approval til I did the last tests for them. Guess they weren't worried about me getting approved. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Antidepressants post op?

I'm on Wellbutrin, I don't take the extended release but the pills are about the size of an M and M, so I split them before taking. No problems. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. First, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all of you who so kindly answered my many questions and concerns before my RNY on August 18th. And a special helping of good karma to those who helped talk me off the ledge as I drove myself bat-**** crazy while making the decision between RNY or the sleeve. For those of you who are considering RNY, and are worried about the recovery, I can only speak for my experience but.....the recovery was so much easier than what I had been imagining. Now, surgery day and the first full day of post-op were no party, not a lot of fun. But nothing unbearable, nothing that I couldn't get through with good nurses and pain meds. I got to my room at 2:00 pm, and by 4:30 I was walking laps (slowly, slowly) around the nurses station. First full day post op I mainly felt like I was achey everywhere and coming down with the flu....not the case at all, but for the next few days I got that "flu" feeling every night around 7pm until I went to sleep; I think that's how my body reacts to being pushed to its healing limits. Never had a fever, never threw up. Discharged after one night, which felt a little fast, but I was walking, using the bathroom, had pain under control. Truth is I slept better once I got home, by far. Only regret so far? I wish that over the past several years as I considered weight loss surgery, I wish I had not focused so much on the horror stories floating around the Internet on WLSurgeries-gone-wrong. I wish I had attended a surgery seminar much, much sooner. I wish I had fully considered the real statistics more than the oh-no-what-ifs. But, I guess I got here as soon as I could. I know this is my positive experience, and that some people experience bumps right away. I also recognize I will likely have bumps as I move through the years. But still, already.....I feel great about my decision. In the end, all you can do is choose the best surgical team you can possibly find, listen to every instruction they give you, and do your best (and only you know what your best is) to comply with all their directives, no excuses. I am so glad to finally be here. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  9. I agree w KristenLe, can't imagine that being proactive and getting the help you need would hurt your chances for surgery. If anything, it shows that you know how to access the resources you need in times of stress and struggle. I bet you'll be fine. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  11. I think the issue is usually if there is a net gain between first visit and submitting to insurance....so if you lose it now, you might be fine? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  13. Hi all, went to my 2 week post op meeting today and am now allowed to have some foods....limited list, but I am not complaining! The nutritionist recommended we use a crock pot to cook meats, and specifically said no pressure cooker bc a pressure cooker tends to make meat stringy and tough....but I thought I have heard that meat was tender when cooked in a pressure cooker? What's been your experience? I was all set to order my InstantPot, but would like to hear if you all find the meat juicy and tender enough in a pressure cooker? Maybe my NUT doesn't use one herself? Thanks! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    NSV shout outs

    "She's blushing!"

Ok, so I am going to give you another way to look at it, possibly: It turns out that there were 2 people I worked with who, at different intervals, lost 150+ pounds each. Huge difference. One, then a year or so later, the other. I had a similar amount to lose. Watching each one do it, and asking about what they were doing, all they said in essence "I'm just eating less I guess?" And smiled like the cat who ate the canary. They flat out denied having any intervention, surgery, medical help. Watching these huge losses happen once and then again, and hearing nothing but flat out denials about the surgery made me feel like a weak, pathetic, hopeless case. I cannot stress enough how alone and ashamed I felt of my unsuccessful attempts to lose weight. Come to find out years later....WLS for both. I know it's their business and their decision, but IMO there's something unkind about lying to another morbidly obese person about this. A lot of my fears and concerns about the surgery and healing could have been resolved, and the overall stigma of having surgery could have been lessened too. Again, I get that they don't owe anyone anything, but damn, is it fair to purposely mislead someone who could benefit from the potentially lifesaving surgery you just had? Post op day 1

I am sorry you are in pain. Take your meds religiously to stay ahead of the pain, it's hard to catch up and control pain if you miss a dose. I had RNY almost 2 weeks ago, and I don't recall any spasms, but I DID feel like I'd been run over by a truck for 2-3 days! I am sure your hernia repair is adding to your pain. Try some Popsicles, those count as liquid and seem to go down easier than a sip. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. So I am still on liquids here so I might only be imagining that this could work but....why couldn't you have a small burger with cheese, pickles, mustard, tomato, lettuce, ketchup but no bun? I mean, the quality of the meat would certainly be waaaay better if you made it at home and could eat it on a plate with a knife and fork, but you could get that burger taste? I've seen on Pinterest where some bariatric folks make little sliders and wrap them in lettuce. I know it's not the same as driving with one hand and holding your Big Mac with the other, but that option didn't get us the life we truly want. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
