Triplethreat what surgery did you have? My surgeon thinks I will be happier with RNY.

You should be proud of your super progress! You should be proud of your super progress!

I am 61 with BMI of 35...barely. cw 205 at 5'4". Have prep app scheduled in 1wk. Dr says most likely will be sched for first wk in aug. A little concerned about loose skin on arms and legs and hoping it isn't too bad! Might get myself a tummy tuck if needed to take care of that area!

Anyone looking at an August surgery date?
dke replied to GoingRogue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon says it will be first part of August! Eeeek! Sent from my SM-S920L using the BariatricPal App -
I have been waiting and agonizing over the question of which procedure to go with...gastric sleeve or RNY. I was mentally ready for VSG and have done nutrition counseling, psych evaluation and teaching courses in surgeon's office. Lab work all done and everything looks great except TSH. My synthroid needs adjusted then labs rechecked before I can proceed. 4 week delay then submit to bc/bs. My surgeon is suggesting I consider RNY because it is the surest way to meet my goal of 135#. I have about 70# to lose. BMI 35.4 with 2 Co morbidities: sleep apnea and hypertension. I am very active with crossfit and spin classes and the occasional 5k run. 61 years old. Just seems to be a problem of portion control. Which would you ladies recommend? VSG or RNY? Final labs to be done in 3 wks. Sent from my SM-S920L using the BariatricPal App

Good point. Guess I will be on vitamins anyway though, won't I?

I am a nurse who works in the same building (not the same floor) as the bariatric surgery unit. Think I can get in and out of there without being spotted? Have only worked there about 3 years part-time, so hoping I can pull this off! lol!

Wish I knew! I am kind of like you..BMI of 35.2! I have 2 comorbidities (OSA and hypertension) I have my appt with my surgeon next week to meet and schedule my date. No intentions of telling anyone except my husband, two children and two of my friends who are supportive and trusted. I am not ashamed or embarrassed, I just don't want my weight loss tools to be an endless topic of discussion. I have done crossfit for a year, and do spin classes 3 x week. I have run 6 5k races in past year. I am an active person, but I see that portion control is my obstacle to success in my weight loss efforts. I am 5'4" and my weight is 207 but I want my goal wt to be 125. Hoping I can somehow cover my absences from dinners and eating events until I am able to eat a little "real food" so as not to encounter quizzing. How to do this??? I am determined to make it happen!! Here I go!

Ask if either is a "center of excellence" in bariatric surgery. These facilities meet a very high standard to obtain this designation. Sent from my SM-S920L using the BariatricPal App

Sometimes I feel as if the air blowing out is too hard and I get overwhelmed. Maybe it's all in my mind. I mentioned it to the tech and she said that's what the doctor ordered and that I'll get used to it. Did you experience that the first time you used your machine? What type of mask do you use? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I use a nasal mask...does not cover my mouth since I was not a mouth breather. I was "diagnosed " by my husband when he told me it was scary when I would stop breathing at night! I was always tired and sleepy. I still pooh poohed yhe idea of sleep apnea til it was proven with a sleep study. I did not want a CPap! However..I didn't know how bad I felt til I got my CPAP and actually got real deep sleep! Can't go without it now. You should try different masks to see what works best for you and I think you will be surprised at how much more energy you have when you wake up after sleeping well. What's it like to lose 100lbs?
dke replied to Rvamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like you, I could not even begin to imagine losing 100 pounds. I originally set my goal weight at 145 because I simply could not conceptualize ever weighing less than that again. I still have days where I find it hard to wrap my mind around that fact that I've lost so much weight. I'm 9 months post-op, and I hit my goal of 135 around Christmas, so it's still really new to me. I started at about 235 and am at 116 now... I went from a size 20W to a size 2... I've lost over half my body weight!!! Physically, I feel SO MUCH BETTER. My feet don't hurt, my back pain has lessened, I'm not popping Tums constantly, my sugar is normal, etc. I'll be honest, though--I'm not yet used to seeing myself as a thin person rather than a fat one. And as I've talked about in another thread, I'm still struggling with feeling ugly, not good enough, etc. I recommend finding a therapist that can help you through the mental and emotional aspects of this process, because it can be a roller coaster ride. Do you have issues w sagging skin? Sent from my SM-S920L using the BariatricPal App -
