    Preteen with growing weight problem

@@Babbs You don't seem to understand why this mother is allowing me to make medical decisions for her child? I'm not. At her mothers request- I am using the resources available to me to try to get more info for her daughter. Is she not capable? She asked me to ask on a forum that I have access to. You want her to join this forum just to ask 1 question? (When her friend already has access)... The father isn't in the picture. What I don't understand is why YOU are so offended that a person could try to help a child. If YOU don't deem my question worthy of your answer, move on. You have continued to question my motives all along... how about because I am a decent human being looking out for a child that needs help. I'm sorry that my reason isn't good enough for you. HW - 283 SW- 238 CW- ?

    Endoscopy

My endoscopy was in the afternoon/ I got a ride home and slept the rest of the evening and night. I would not recommend going back to work the same day. No physical recovery- but foggy brain issue HW - 283 SW- 238 CW- ?

    Preteen with growing weight problem

Thank you everyone for your helpful advice. I know how fragile young girls can be. I wish someone had been looking out for me when I was young and just starting to gain weight. We are going to try to get her in to see a specialist. HW - 283 SW- 238 CW- ?

    Preteen with growing weight problem

I'm here asking ON BEHALF OF HER MOTHER! (She asked me to help, so I consider that *my business*) I've had WLS and her mother knows I have this group that might have some HELPFUL insight. Her mother is dissatisfied with the pediatrician blowing it off, while her daughter has continued to gain more and more. We live in a small community where the Drs don't push for answers unless you push them. @ _Kate_ yes, her thyroid was checked about a year ago. Came back normal. We were thinking PCOS or insulin resistance but originally thought she might be too young. I was hoping to hear from others here to know if anyone here experienced those at such a young age. All due respect? Uh, because I care about her and WE are trying to get some ideas about what could be the problem. I happen to have access to this resource and was looking for insight from others that might help. What business of yours is it why I asked. If you don't have anything helpful to add, why comment? Before Your Surgery Suggestion!

I had a big binder of info given to me and it was very helpful, but I still sometimes feel slightly uneducated with nutrition stuff.,, but I roll my eyes at the steak 1wk post op... Uh... Common sense should tell you NO even if your surgeon didn't specify... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Birth Control

I had the nuvaring pre op, dr requested I not use it for a month after surgery. Back to normal use with no problems. (I'm 8.5 weeks out) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. I'm almost 8 weeks out. I noticed the morning after surgery that my tastes had changed. The nurse gave me my favorite yogurt- I couldn't eat it cause it tasted like super sweet chemicals. Yuck. I didn't really have any gas pain after surgery. A little sore abdomen (like worked out too hard) but not really uncomfortable. In the first 2 weeks post op lost #14. But I seem to lose from the extremities first- my face lost it, then my rings are too loose (down a full ring size in 2 weeks?!?) and my shoes are loose. Now aT almost 8 weeks- I'm down 26# since surgery. I don't crave most of the stuff I did before - although I do enjoy a very small slice of thin crust pepperoni pizza now & then (ok by dr & nut). 13. Not every surgeon has the same preop diet plan. Some people have strict liquid diets, my surgeon only required a 1400 cal or less daily for three weeks. I was able to eat reasonable meals during my preop time. However I did not have a fatty liver to start with. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What to pack for the hospital ?

I was sleeved 7/27/16. I used some loose pj pants so my bum wasn't hanging out. And my phone & charger. My hospital supplied everything else (lip balm, Antigas meds, socks, etc) I wore the same clothes home that I wore to the hospital. I left a pillow & blankie in the car so I was ready for the ride home. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Black and White Thinking.

I know I'm not perfect (pre-op and after) so I prefer to think of it as being "One day better" than I was before. It's the best I can do. I won't beat myself up about "mistakes". But I will try harder Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pain in stomach after exercise?

I was lucky- my post op instructions were very clear- "NO housework for 6 weeks"... I went back to work at 2 weeks and had that same pain for about 2 weeks. By week 4 it was fine Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    GERD

Yes, I have heard (from gastroenterologist) that prolonged GERD can lead to cancer. But it is easy to treat- and very unlikely to cause cancer in a few weeks or months. That is usually years of untreated GERD that could cause it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    WLS and "body positivity"

I was a very healthy fat person. Lab work is always great. No known comorbidities or long term illnesses. I was active and strong. I don't needs any new joints or sleep apnea machines to sleep. I chose WLS so I could continue to be healthy. I know what would likely be in my future if I didn't drop the weight. That being said- I have learned through this journey that you cannot judge a person by looking at them. Now when I see a large person, I wonder if they are happy at their weight, aren't ready to start their journey or are they happy cause they lost 100# and are finally feeling great... People deserve respect at all sizes & health. (And great clothes at reasonable prices that fit well!) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Question for the women.

My first month after surgery I had 2 heavy periods in 4 weeks (while still on blood thinners- NOT FUN), but at 6 1/2 weeks out (fingers crossed) it seems to be back to normal... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. I started my insurance requirements 9/6/15. Surgical consult 2/16. Surgery 7/27/16. My Surgeons office said most people there (a center of excellence) took about a year from start to surgery day. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. I started the process exactly 1 year ago. I thought "well, I'll go through the process & learn as much about weight loss as I can- I can always back out at the last minute..." I learned bout obesity, the tool I now have ... And I also learned through testing that I had h pylori that caused a peptic ulcer in my past (how did I not feel an ulcer?!?) and that I had gall bladder problems too (again, how did I not know this??) AND ineffective esophageal motility... I credit the experience with saving my life. Had I not treated the h pylori, I would have had more ulcers in the future - and likely stomach cancer. Oh, and at 6weeks out, I'm at my high school weight already... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
