    Omg!

Your post resonated with me. One year ago tomorrow I embarked on my RNY journey. It will amaze you that the year flies by. The past twelve months were filled with new adventures and experiences. It only gets better!!! Congrats to you! Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Need A Buddy Please!

Also happy to help. My starting weight was 504, RNY on 8/4/15. Current weight 232; losing right at about 272 this year. My surgiversary is tomorrow, and one year follow up Monday. I'm celebrating by having plastic surgery! I think you have to be your own advocate. People that bring negativity, well that's about them and their "stuff"-not about you. Although everyone has been supportive to me, I know no one can understand my journey but my fellow brothers and sisters that have walked the same path. I also know what you mean, it's a different perspective to travel down from the 500's. So, feel free to message me. I'm truly happy to help. Know you're not alone and just as it takes a village to raise a child, I think it takes a community to heal from this journey. There are endless kind and supportive and inspiring people for you here. All the best, and let me know if I can be of any support or assistance. Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Stumped: hunger, sleeve, RNY

Hello, When a patient undergoes an RNY, it's true the pouch created is detached from the original full-size stomach. The original stomach remains but hormones in the upper region shut off as a result from a lack of stimulation (i.e, food passing through and constantly creating a hormonal hunger response). The hunger that does eventually return is mild in comparison and manageable through nutrition and nutritional habits formed in the weight loss portion of the journey. A person needs to have an acknowledgement that their body needs nutrition, but as others have attested, the "hunger" is minor and easily corrected with eating. Certainly, there is no "one size fits all" experience but that's what's so crucial about not returning to old eating habits and patterns. Having a daily awareness (tracking nutrition also helps) keeps it clear when a head vs. body question arises. Hope that helps, Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Optifast

Not for surgery but as a stand alone "diet" many, many years ago...I called it Opti-famine. I wasn't a fan, although I know many programs use it and I'm sure it's gotten better since I went on the program...I certainly hope so for your sake! Best of luck! 15. I set my times for the day on my iPhone, after I take my first round. Every 2 hours and 15 min. I take a dose until done. If miss a dose or am late, I shift the med times back. I have a pill container that has compartments. I put it in a pocket of a lunch bag (that I take everywhere). Inside the bag I start with 2 frozen bottles of Water and food, I might need while I'm out and about. I'm sure there are better systems but mine is simple and works for me. Best of luck! Exhausted on Pre Op Diet

When I met with the anesthesiologist he said I wasn't looking too good (same as you described)-he suggested drinking Propel Water to help with electrolytes. Funny thing-I did drink them the last 4 days before my surgery, but couldn't stand them after surgery-tasted like sugar water. But might be something to try in the meantime. Good luck! 19. Do you feel tooth obsessed when you brush your teeth daily? It's about daily maintenance, it's not an obsession. It's about being in-tune with your body and not connecting emotions to a number but rather actions-should you need to adjust either way. I think I would've agreed with you preoperatively, but then again I was morbidly obese and dodged the scale every chance I got. It may or may not look different when you've been on the path almost a year, nearing your goal weight, rather than judging something you haven't encountered yet. Just a thought... Ultimately everyone must do what's right for them but refraining from labeling would be refreshing, too. :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Feeling alone[emoji17][emoji17]

Hang in there! As others have wisely pointed out, this may not be your finest hour, but it is the gateway to a happier, healthier you. Your body has endured a trauma and that will spill out. Emotions begin coming up that you don't foresee because of chemical and hormonal changes, not to mention your main coping (speaking for myself, was removed)-it necessitates new methods of dealing with life; which is new ground. The avoidance of emotions is all but gone because like an alcoholic who becomes sober, you are truly alert and awake in a new way-that takes time, training and coaching. Support groups are a great place to learn those skills. Sending you good thoughts! Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  22. I think it's dependent on how YOU feel. There were times I backed off weighing. I was following the plan but would get discouraged if it wasn't "enough". In time I worked on changing my perspective. I saw the weight as just that...a number. Similar to James, I use(d) this as a piece of information to guide me. Once I reached 6 months, decided weekly and/or monthly weigh-ins weren't enough info. If I was stalling, I wanted to know sooner so I could address it sooner. I think if you view the number as a number, not as a success or a failure, just an update on where you're at, a more more frequent weigh-in can be positive. Like I stated earlier-this was a process and took a lot of self-talk to not obsess or "feel" anything or than informed. That was my journey. I just reached my 10 month Surgiversary yesterday. I do weigh daily. I began at 504.0, today I weighed 259.0 Hope this helps! My best, Daniel Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  24. Simply put-I would rely on yourself. You need to always have meals, Snacks, etc. Leaving it up to anyone else takes your control away. I had a wedding about 6 weeks after my surgery. I spoke to the couple and they allowed me to order a special meal, even though it was catered with a set menu. I think letting people know what YOU need is crucial. I think you have to be selfish, put yourself first. If something is too much, too tempting or overwhelming, you should trust that. Walk away, take a break-whatever you need. Family gatherings are typically built around the meal and I found I actually got far more out of them because I ate what I needed-early, felt full and then really listened, talked and experienced friends and family on such a deeper level. Not sure what your experience will be but I found that seeing others eat what I used to eat just didn't/doesn't tempt me. I know what those foods taste like and nothing is more important to me than giving myself nutritionally what I need. I know the first meals with everyone are tricky. You just have to set the tone. I had people afraid to eat in front of me, or thought I wouldn't eat...I just explained I know what I need, and "you do you" and we'll both be fine.
