  1. Hi Sunny! I'm so excited for you to have your surgery! I live in Portland, OR now but I am from Tucson originally (moved 3 years ago)

I had my surgery on 10/26 so I'm still new too but if you ever want to talk let me know it's been a hard road and some days are better than others but your frame of mind had a ton to do with your healing post-op.

  2. Telling my (skinny) SIL and (very skinny) MIL were literally the last things I had on my to do list before surgery on 10/25. I finally broke down and sent them an email 2 days ago and it went better than expected. I would love to have kept everything secret but just not possible with 4 kids and living on the same dead end road as my ILs.

My MIL is very fit too. She loves outdoors stuff and it an avid biker. She is a really nice person but her whole side of the family is very thin and active too. I always felt like she has been embarrassed to have an overweight DIL. And it doesn't help that my hubby started developing a little bit of a Buddha belly since we got together 3 years ago (he loves my cooking, what can I say??). It was so nerve wrecking to tell her but I was so surprised by her support. It was nice going in being honest with her and having her supportive thoughts heading into surgery on Tuesday.

  3. Tofu is great. Just get the firm kind packed in Water, drain VERY well, cut up and freeze it. I usually take frozen pieces, dry fry them and eat them with a boullion and soy sauce dip. Cauliflower sounds good, but if I eat it I can probably blast myself across the Atlantic.

Oh man, I'm the same way with cauliflower and broccoli. It's never ending farts.

  4. I feel like I didn't get much instruction on my pre-op diet either. The NUT went over the things that the shake you chose needs to have, strongly recommended Boost, which is awful and I refuse. My surgeon said that I should be taking in 1,500 calories a day so take the calorie count on the shake and divide 1500 with it and 'bam, that's your diet'. Seems so different than what others are doing. So confusing and strange there isn't more of a standardized diet among bariatric surgeons.

  5. [nquote name=smiley1968" post="4291899" timestamp="1476556103]What does it mean and only 3 people know I'm having surgery besides my husband ..my mother in law my friend and my job ..I just don't need the negativity .and if there are any complications whether small or big will always be an issue ..I will wait till everything is good again.

I don't blame you for only telling a few people. I feel like it is already hard being overweight and taking everyone's criticism over that as it is, it's SO difficult to make the decision to have surgery that I know for me, I didn't want to tell people just to have them criticize me more.

I do feel like the closer I get to surgery and the more time I spend on here the more empowered I feel about telling people. I know I am making the best choice and I am proud of myself for recognizing something needed to change. I have worked hard to change my eating habits post op and proud of the small amount of weight I have lost and that is starting to trump being scared of what people will say.

  7. Oh gosh everyone. That was terrifying. I was so nervous about what she would say and if she would be supportive or not. Anyone have any stories or people they were afraid to tell pre-op??

I put ME in the title and not MY, help! How do I edit that??

  8. Yes I feel like it has been a source of stress too thinking I'm going to get sick not taking Vitamins or drinking enough Protein.

Also- I started my Vitamins 4 weeks before surgery. But they were not the kind I have to dissolve in Water. The taste made me gag in addition to the regurgitation!

So you think my main focus is to just sip in small amounts?

Have you heard anything about the Vitamin patch? I was thinking of trying that until I can take the pills again.

So I actually ordered some of the Vitamin Patches. I asked my surgeon about them before I did and he said there isn't any reason why they shouldn't work and if that's what I wanted to do he didn't care, as long as I am getting vitamins is what is important to him. I got them because I don't want to add that to one more thing to stress getting in. I'm having surgery on 10/25.

Has anyone tried them and gotten blood work back on them and had blood work done on them?
