  1. @danaymacklin they have the swallow ones, if you are far enough out from surgery. @soyounique a lady in my support group swears by the true citrus flavor packets - sugar free. I haven't tried it but she loves them and she can't stand artificial sweeteners. They have a few flavors.@martha Parker McNeal had some great advice too. Link to amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005ECLNIM/ref=mp_s_a_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1486871444&sr=8-3&keywords=true+sugar+free Hopefully you can find something that works for you to. I keep thinking about some advice about taking the iron supplements that helped me. The iron supplements can be tough on anyone's GI tract. Start slowly. The supplement I take is three pills. Start with one pill and day, if all goes well over a couple of weeks, increase it by the next pill. It took me a little while. Always take it with food, but something without calcium, like a cracker. If possible give an hour before taking calcium supplement or eating something with calcium. Or 2 hours after eating/taking calcium. While it isn't a really big deal, it gives your body the best chance to absorb stuff. The iron and the calcium compete for absorption. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using BariatricPal mobile app

    Diet after gastric bypass

There are a few different blogs out there and I really like the world according to egg face. She is several years out from surgery and has a lot of good ideas. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

  6. OP I'm sorry! I hope you can get your levels back up and feeling better soon. It took courage to share this. All the best to you. Chewable vitamins can be great. Just want to say that Nascobal offers both pills to swallow and chewable. I talk about nascobal a lot on here but partially because it makes my life so much easier and helps me get my vitamins. Also only 25 dollars a month for me because it is a prescription. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

    When Can I Ride?

Love the enthusiasm for biking and wanting to get out there after surgery! How much biking do you do now? How quickly are you going to have to go? A month is still pretty close to surgery. A lot of your body is still healing and it is better to wait than to risk an injury. So my guess is, sadly no. Unless you are doing century rides now. The good news is that rides after the healing process are going to be so much easier. Ultimately this is up to you and your surgeon/team. I wish you all the best and good weather! 8. I was worried about the procedure itself and if I could do it. I was/am worried I would fail too. Those fears are there and can help us to rise above. Stumbling block/stepping stone. I'm trying to use this thinking to help me. My biggest fear was and is still long term issues. I did a lot of research on complications in the long run. Things like vitamin deficiencies (my step mom and dad who both had rny deal with this), And reactive hypoglycemia (my dad developed this), Mostly so I could know what to look for, what to do and when possible prevent issues. Not to be an alarmist, but to be prepared and know as much as I could. Won't know everything but knowing helps me face my fears. I wish you all the best in facing those fears. You can do more than you know. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

    Motivation

It is hard that soon after surgery. Give yourself credit and keep moving forward. I like to set up rewards for myself and track my workouts. Like if I meet all my exercise goals for this month, I can get myself a pedicure or new pair or shoes. You could do a reward for 20, 30 or 45 workouts and then just track it. The reward doesn't have to be big or expensive but it has to be something that you want and won't get yourself unless you reach your goal. It could be makeup, a movie, a book, music, nail polish, scarf, whatever you like and fits in your budget. I'm a gold star kind of girl though. It helps me keep focused on the long run by breaking it up into smaller goals. All the best!

    Gym shoes?

I personally love the Saucony brand. The grid is wonderful for me. New Balance and Brooks are good too. I like to go to a running place to get feedback/testing and try different ones in the store. I usually buy one pair from the store and others from Amazon. Have fun! 9 Months and the Game is Changing

I'm at a similar point and am finding my calories creep upwards. Excited to hear what others say. Things I'm trying Planning out my meals ahead of time. Make a calorie/protein target and meal plan for each day. Have a rule that if it isn't on the plan, don't eat it. Just put it down. You can always adjust the plan on another day. Just came across this tip and it is helping. I am planning things out the night before and it doesn't take long. It has helped me stay on target but I haven't been trying it long. Mindful eating. Making sure I chew everything 20/30 times or until something like applesauce. Keep reminding myself about something my surgeon wants me to remember. If a person drives a car hauling 2000 lbs of stuff to Florida they are going to use less gas than if they haul 100 lbs of stuff. As we loose weight our bodies use less calories to do the same activity. Our weight-loss is going to slow down. This is a normal part of the process. Frustrating though it may be. I feel like I have to remind myself of this all of the time! Shifting focus. I'm focusing more on being consistent in my healthy habits than on the scale. Things like being consistent in my workouts, meditating and focusing on my eating. Setting up a reward system for myself on getting my exercise consistent. Good luck and I hope you find what works for you! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

    Divorce and surgery

There are a lot of possible reasons spouses leave or separate after the surgery. It is hard to tell. All I can say is I'm sorry this is happening!! Going through this is hard enough. Way to go on your weight-loss btw. Go back to why you had the surgery and why you are making these changes. Remind yourself of that Therapy can be helpful and there are a lot of good options. It might take a few sessions or therapists (not all therapists/therapies are created equal) I hope someone can help you more than I can but I send you love and prayers. When can I eat a salad?

Some good guidelines and info. I wish you luck in it! Salads can be yummy. Good Protein and good veg! Just give it time, if it doesn't go well. I have had a difficult time transitioning to food. So if it is difficult, my nut gave me some great advice- think of it as physical therapy for your new digestive tract. Start small and simple. E.g. 1/4, 1/2 or 1 teaspoon of something everyday for a few days. Then repeat with just a little more. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

    Fit bit

Big fan of my charge hr! First one got beat up and they replaced it no charge. It can be a wonderful motivator and help you see just how much more you are doing. My weight-loss has slowed down, which is normal. My fit bit helps me focus on getting in my active minutes/workouts and building more consistent healthy habits. Attempting to take the focus off the scale and more on getting in the activity my body needs. Fun feature on the charge hr. Other fitbits probably have it too but want to share cause it took me months to figure out. A workout timer. Hold down the little button on the side until you get a little buzz and see a little stop watch. Stop the timer the same way when you are finished. I was getting frustrated because it wasn't always registering my workouts. If I have 60 continuous active minutes, you think it would recognize it as some sort of workout. It didn't. Anyway logging the workouts like this, in the app you can easily see the steps taken, active minutes and your heart for the work out. All the best to you! 16. Have you tried watering it down? Changing the temperature? I still can't stomach things that are too cold and I'm 10 months out. It could also be the brand or flavor. unjury has an unflavored powder you can add to many different fluids. I don't know if this happens with VSG but you could have a temporary lactose intolerance thing happening. Probably good to search old posts or google for more information on that. I had rny and had to suck on a lactaid pill while I drank my drinks. As crazy as it may seem you might be drinking it too fast. I know taking little sips doesn't seem like it should be too fast. Hope something in this helps and keep going!

    Anybody in Jersey?!

@@womanonamission Not at all. It can be difficult to figure out which one is best. I wish you luck! I think it is possible to loose the same amount of weight but that it takes longer and more control with the sleeve. Though each has pros and cons. Which one do you think it right for you? If have any other questions, this is the place to ask them. I'm down about 140 from my highest, a year ago, and about 130 since surgery. I'm still about 25 pounds from my goal and I expect it to take 5 or more months. Just because weight loss slows down. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

    Anybody in Jersey?!

Hey everyone! It is great to hear people's experiences. I'm not sure what part of Jersey I am but I would consider it central. We are transplants to NJ but we love it! I had rny 10 months ago through Dr Bell at Summit Medical. Best wishes to everyone approaching surgery. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

    LDS members?

Exciting! Which surgery are you going for? How are you feeling about the upcoming surgery? I had rny March 31st of 2016. (10 months today.) I'm down about 130 from surgery and about 140 from highest. It has been a crazy journey but a good one. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

    Scared

You've gotten some really great advice. Just wanted to add that to remember to get your Vitamins. Keep reminding your self that the pain will pass. It will get easier to get in your fluids and your Protein. This can be a wonderful start! Do you have a good support system?

    Terrified of gaining

Hey! Way to go!! When was your surgery? I'm with you in the terrified of regaining camp. I have put so much work into this change, as I'm sure you have! Not sure if it will help but this is what I'm doing. Focusing on staying on the plan. Instead of focusing on my scale as much, I'm focusing on my number of active minutes and being consistent with my workouts. (I love my fitbit.) I'm focusing on more consistent mile times and enjoying my workouts. This outlook is helping me with my current stall. I'm feeling stronger physically and not so defeated when the scale doesn't move because I'm doing what I can. Eating is a little tricky for me for a lot of reasons. I'm trying to focus on giving my body the macro nutrients it needs and paying attention to how different foods taste and make me feel. Mindful eating. In some ways, I'm the same person I was before and in others ways not so much. So I'm also trying to figure out who I am now. And how to make good habits and a better relationship with food part of that new identity. I feel like this is all very vague and unhelpful. So I hope some people who have done this longer can give you some better feedback. Keep going and recognize how far you've come. All the best! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

    So much protein

Post surgery, yes you will need that much. Especially as your body heals and adjusts. It seems like a crazy amount though. In my opinion, it also helps to shift the focus of eating. A person starts to focus on getting good lean Protein in first. Thinking about food more as needed fuel instead of comfort. Usually it takes a little while after surgery to get up to that many grams a day. Low sugar yogurt is good. It isn't vegan but it a good way to get in protein. The Chia seed pudding sounds good. Thanks @@Travelher I'll have to try that in a little bit. If you do tofu/tempeh, that isn't a bad source either. unjury and genpro (sp) have a tasteless/ unflavored protein powder. I've ordered it but it hasn't gotten here yet. Many people love it. It can be added to Soups or and liquid the unjury has 30 grams protein per serving. With the bars, try lots of different ones and different brands. The first time I tried one post surgery was horrible! Didn't try another one for months. Different bars and flavors sit differently for me. I was excited to try this no cow bar brand but the ones I tried sat so horribly. I just couldn't eat anymore. I like many of the Quest bars and a couple of the pure Protein Bars. There are tons of recipes to make your own Snacks with the unflavored protein powder too. Good luck and I hope you find what works for you. If you come across any brands you like feel free to share. It takes me a while to try/incorporate something new but I'm always looking.
