    Bypass

    I know you may not want to hear this but it will get easier. Keep trying different things. Keep going slowly. Keep moving forward. It seems like nothing works until you find something that works for you. Sometimes, adding pepcid chewable helps some people. Taking lactaid made a huge difference for me. Never had problems before but I do need to take it now. Nausea medicine can help too. Drinking things at different temperatures can affect things as well. (Still can't handle liquids too cold.) The sugar free popsicles were wonderful for me. The first 3 or 4 months were horrible for me. I hope your difficulty passes quickly.   2. This post is just to share and help me process/be aware. RS RNY almost 11 months ago and overall things are tough but this has been a great thing. This week I've had a lot of stress, some from good things, some from negative/bad things. Thursday I blew my calories and found myself doing some emotional eating. Finding way too much happiness in peanut butter.... Friday I worked to correct it and still am today. It is difficult some days! I just need to remind myself, yes I do still turn to food sometimes. I need to be careful of that. I need to stay aware and make myself use other coping skills. Have to keep trying to change my mind/thoughts/behaviors. Probably always going to be working on this and I need to remind myself that is ok. One bad day doesn't undo all the good. Just need to learn from it and not run from it. Needed to get this out and think it through, admitting and owning up to it. If you have any strategies that help you, I'd love to hear them!

    Only a year out myself, so I just want to say way to keep on keeping on!! What activity/exercise have you tried? Ask to specifically ask what you have liked and not liked. Exercise is supposedly key in the long run, so I was curious about what you like to do. If you haven't found something you like yet, that is ok too. I have tried a few different things and I could suggest based on what you like.

    survive without caffeine?

    I liked what@Orionburn said. Cutting It back before surgery will help. I'm here to tell you how to get caffeine without soda. Bad me! 🤣 First off, your doctor may have a time frame after surgery with a no caffeine period. Follow that. I think it was 3 or 4 months with my surgeon. Secondly, use it responsibly- sounds silly I know. Just like so many other things, too much isn't good. I try to keep my consumption low and not over book myself. I have to remember that for me caffeine can help me but shouldn't be my fuel/I'm not supposed to be able to do everything. I don't worry about dehydration because I get in a lot of fluids. But orionburn gave the advice I've heard about replacing the fluids. I've found that I do have more energy since losing weight but still struggle sometimes. I've also found that working out helps my energy levels. If I workout first thing, I'm better throughout the day. After surgery you'll find your balance. Mio energy water flavor drops are great. There are some other brands but they tear up my system. A lot of the other caffeine products have carbonation, which I avoid. There are pre workout powders that have caffeine but they also have other things in them. Since I have never heard of these things and haven't had time to research them, I avoid these powders.     Food suggestions

    Are you pre or post op? Just curious, why that calorie range? The premier protein drinks sit well with me. Isopure unflavored too. Dannon light and fit yogurt or the oikos triple zero. Some places have a carb control yogurt that a lot of people like too. Low fat cheese. Lean meats like another person suggested. I also like quest protein bars.
  7. I've become a fan too! Costco carries the PBFit brand big 30oz jar and it was cheaper than Amazon. So happy with this product!

    Negative people

    Hope this comes across well in text - Have you tried your best with diet and exercise? I'm betting that you have, much more than he knows. For most people surgery is a last resort, not a first. Weigh the evidence against his opinion. Does it support it? If not then he is wrong. Move forward in whatever is best for you. You are the one that has your full story. Hugs and all the best!

    Bad back

    Have a bad back and have had chronic pain and nerve problems for a few years. The surgery has helped me immensely! I can do so much more, so much more freedom. So much less pain. Tens units can be helpful, also Salonpas are amazing if you can handle the adhesive patches. Exercises and PT are essential too. Best of luck and I hope this helps you. All the best
  11. Just want to offer some encouragement and say therapy can help. This is a difficult process but finding your strength is going to be worth it. I don't mean that to be negative or hurtful. Most people get emotional scars and, if you can afford it/get it covered, a quality therapist can help! I like the feeling good handbook because it covers so much. https://www.amazon.com/Feeling-Good-Handbook-David-Burns/dp/0452281326 Eating the moment is another good book. It is a little simplistic but the exercises are helpful for me. You is a very fluid concept. Chances are you are different than you were 2 or 5 years ago, even though our core values can remain the same. It is because we learn and are affected by life. For a lot of reasons, it can be hard for a person to register the changes. All the best to you.
  12. Two things. One this happens, it can be a bumpy road down. Are you getting in enough fluids and following thou meal plan? Walking/moving as much as thou can? If so, then you aren't doing anything wrong. You are in fact fooling the right things! Remind yourself of that and keep moving forward. Second thing - are you a female and if yes, where are you in your cycle? That can really affect weight loss! Just monitor it. Good luck and stay excited!
  13. A good topic! Here are mine premier protein My top choice. Easy on the tummy, love the ready to go shakes and tasty. I am now experimenting cooking with them too! My favorite food right now is oatmeal made with a protein drink. My husband jokes it is like soup but it works for me. I got the idea from, I think,@Travelher. Favorite combos for oatmeal Chocolate + Powdered peanut butter Carmel or vanilla + canned pumpkin and dash of pumpkin pie spice Any flavor + a little sugar free syrup Isopure unflavored I was really skeptical about an unflavored protein powder but I do like it. In the beginning, I thought it had a weird texture but now I don't notice it. I typically add it to a V8 for my post work out food. Lots of vitamins and electrolytes in the V8 and adding the unflavored powder, I get protein too! I did try this mixture with oatmeal and avocado, it was pretty good. Very much like a soup but it was good. Yeah, I know I'm a little crazy. Quest Like the quest bars. I tried a few from the store like someone said and then bought in bulk on Amazon. The mint chocolate chunk is good. Powdered peanut butter For several months after surgery the smell of peanut butter was gross and then that changed! Pbfitt at Costco is a good price Yogurt! Sugars can be really high with some yogurts. I like the Dannon light and fit the best. Good luck. I am excited to see more suggestions

    Lack of support...

    I know this isn't easy to hear, but it might be time to reevaluate that relationship. Not that it has to end, it might or it might not. We all need good healthy relationships. Also, we need to keep ourselves strong. There are a lot of ways to handle things but I think@danaymacklin had some great ideas. I wish you the best of luck. This isn't an easy situation. But keep going on making the healthy changes you want to make for yourself.
  15. Yesterday I took the dog for a walk/jog and partway through had to practically drag him and then he pouted, laid down and just kind of told me he needed to catch his breath. Poor thing was exhausted by the time we got home. So to be totally honest, he is kind of out of shape because of not going on walks because of cold weather and me not making him jog before. Nevertheless, I'm pretty proud of myself for tiring him out! I jogged more and more easily than I think I ever have before. Happy moment. Note to the other dog owners, I did watch his paw pads and make sure they were ok.

    @swimbikerun - loved that analogy! Definitely trying to be nice and build him up slowly. We took a few more rests and walked most of the way after he laid down.

I wish you the best your battles too. @Cindi_Augustine - I agree good counseling can make a world of difference and is a great tool. Thanks for cheering me on. To the others who liked my post, thanks! Sometimes it is really cathartic to speak about something to then move on and up. Grateful for the support.

    Eating slow.

    There is a funny post observation someone made that you know you are a wls patient when you are a connoisseur of cold food that used to be warm! It is so true. Keep up the good fight. I find that I have just gotten used to it but eating slow is important. All the best!

    Very little weight loss!

    12 pounds in a month may not seem like a lot your first month post op but 12lbs is pretty great! @JamesMarusek gave some great advice. A lot of what I have to contribute is already in that post. But seriously - Right now focus on getting in your fluids, vitamins and protein as best as you can. Sip, sip, sip... Trying different things is important. As you are able to give your body more of the 3 key things, move more and as your body heals from surgery more weight-loss will happen. Keep your spirits up and good luck!

  24. Are you far enough out from surgery to take the swallow ones? The can you take like half doses and work your way up? The vitamins can cause discomfort. For the first little bit I took my Pepcid after my multivitamin and that helped. Good luck!

    Chewable and Liquid Vitamins

    Lots of good advice and options! Just want to throw in my recommendation for Nascobal. B12 nasal spray prescription that gives you multivitamin, iron and calcium too. Covered by a lot of insurances for around 25 a month, because it is a prescription. They have the chewable and the swallow kind. I love getting everything together and getting it shipped to me. So lazy like that. Hope you find something that works for you!
